Introduction

In a boiler, water is heated under pressure in order to produce steam. To create steam, the plant uses a
fire tube boiler. In a fire tube boiler, the flame moves inside the tube while the water is on the shell side
of the tube. In a water tube boiler, the water moves inside the tube while the flame is on the outside of
the tube.

In a fire tube boiler, hot gases from an open flame travel through one or more tubes that are inserted
into a water container that is sealed. Thermal conduction is the process by which heat from the gases is
passed via the tube walls to the water, heating it until steam is produced.

Working principle

The main purpose of boilers, also known as steam generators, is to produce steam through the
application of heat from the combustion of fuel and air in a device known as a furnace. In a big room-like
area called a furnace or fire box, fuel and air are combined for burning. The fuel oil used to generate
heat is heated beforehand, filtered, and then pumped to the boiler's burner. A forced draft blower also
forces combustion air into a furnace. Once at the boiler front, the air is pushed into the furnace through
the air register.

A electrical igniter burns the combination of burnt fuel oil and air after the air entering the furnace
through the air register mixes with the ignited fuel oil spray passing through the atomizer. The
combustion byproduct is directed toward the boiler's back. The flue gas is directed to move through the
tubes by the front head of the boiler, which also prevents it from escaping. Hot fuel gases that result are
permitted to travel through the tube. Boiling water can be seen from the shell side. Using a multi-
impeller pump, soft water is delivered to the boiler where it is heated by convection and converted into
steam with an operating pressure of 8 kPa. While cold water is returned to the boiler, steam is
distributed to various locations.

The use of a chimney removes waste gas. The pressure gage, level indication, and safety valve are all
parts of the boiler. Anti-scale and anti-corrosion compounds are added in pairs. Because scale formation
and a reduction in heat transfer rate cause tubes to become damaged, soft water is utilized in boilers.
