ve ra
tudents and teachers will find this book flexible and informative. Reading, writing,
listening and speaking skills are integrated throughout the book. Speaking is an

a)
important component of this book, with conversations in every unit to present and
reinforce the core language. Additionally, we have included listening practice and

t
collaborative work in every unit.

su es
nt
This book meets the objectives of the reformed program working with generic and
disciplinary competences. The book has been designed for students to achieve all the unit
competences effectively.
u
The design of the book includes:
da m
1. New development of class projects
2. Vocabulary presentations: The vocabulary presented in each unit is practiced
contextually. We also offer exercises and activities to reinforce the correct spelling of
new words.
3. Listening activities: Students will listen and repeat the vocabulary to practice
bi l

pronunciation.
hi ria

4. Conversations in pairs: They are presented in every lesson and every unit.
These conversations build oral fluency as well as students’ reading ability. In turn,
they provide them with a current model of how language is naturally spoken.
5. Independent exercises: They provide an opportunity for students to practice writing
skills.
ro te

6. Reading strategies: They are practiced in each unit to help students improve their
reading skills.

These features will help and support the teacher and the student. We know all of your
(P a

hard work will pay off.

Fighting against bullying

M

Nowadays, there is a problem that has become dangerous and recurrent among students:
Bullying. We hear this word everywhere every day, but...
What is bullying?
Bullying is the repeated act of using strength or power to intimidate another person
affecting his or her self-esteem and confidence.
How can I recognize bullying actions?
Bullying is based on the following patterns of behavior:
XXIntention: Students who bully use their power intentionally to hurt.
It is not a random action or a circumstantial act.
XXRepetition: Bullying behavior happens more than once. It is not the result
of a discussion or argument, it is repeated and constant.
There are three types of bullying:
XXVerbal bullying is saying or writing mean things, teasing, name-calling,
4 taunting, or threatening to cause harm.

XXSocial bullying involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships, rejecting

M

or excluding someone on purpose, spreading rumors, embarrassing someone in

public, or using social networks (cyber bullying) to harm people by writing gossips
about them.
XXPhysical bullying is hurting a person’s body or possessions. It includes:
Hitting / kicking / pinching, spitting, tripping/pushing, taking or breaking
someone’s things, making mean or rude hand gestures, etc.
XXWe want you to stand up and fight for your rights, never let anybody
hurt you in any form.
One consequence of bullying (along with other factors) is to drop out,
to quit school. In your book, you will find some ideas on how to avoid
bullying, as well as some inspirational bullying advice that we hope can
help you. You will also find some recommendations to take into account
and put into practice, so you won't quit school!
May they bring you the support and encouragement you need.
