On August 8, 1967, in Bangkok, Thailand, the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established. The ASEAN is an intergovernmental organization that is formed by the states through treaties or agreements. It is similar to constitutions that the state members agreed to commit the treaty that establishes the organizations goals. The ASEAN declaration was signed by the ASEAN founding members, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
The goal of the ASEAN is to promote economic growth, cooperation,
and cultural development in the region through cooperative relationships based on equality and partnership, in order to create the foundation for successful and peaceful Southeast Asian Nations. It supports regional peace and stability by cultivating a sense of justice and the rule of law in the region's relationships. Through mutual support and cooperation, the ASEAN aims to alleviate poverty and close the development gap.
The Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand are ASEAN members. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations' headquarters is located in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In my opinion, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is
a cooperative that helps one another, similar to brothers and sisters who lend a helping hand to those who are in need. It enhances economic growth, social advancement, and cultural advancement. To sustain a successful and stable community of Southeast Asian nations, the Organization fosters peace and stability. Sources:
