Dear Hiring Team,

Graduating with a Community Psychology degree from the University of Washington Bothell, I
wish to work to bridge gaps between individuals and their communities. I am writing because I
am interested in the intern position available at UPower. My time during my study abroad
program in Spain: Politics of Soccer, allows me to bring a multicultural understanding to the
intersectional problems people are facing and find equitable solutions that are sustainable long-
term. It also taught me the importance of soccer as a tool that young people can use to create
community, de-stress and achieve a sense of empowerment.

My collaboration in the “Coping Strategies and Building Resilience” research project shows my
dedication to team work and learning about protective factors that individuals can apply to their
daily lives. As community organizers we are the connection between academic research and
mental health care practices that help individuals build resilience so they feel inspired to make
healthier choices.

UPower’s commitment to equity and play appeals to me because I believe a person’s health is
better understood, and improved, through an intersectional lens. My work in creating a “Sex,
Gender and Gender Identity” pamphlet for my Biopsychology 357 class reflects how I apply
critical and creative thinking that is essential when addressing children and their needs. I
learned that it is important to have conversations that are inclusive and language appropriate
with children as they are growing.

The “Latinx Representation in Healthcare” zoom conversation I planned while working for my
school’s social event department taught me organizational and time management skills as well
as the importance of diversity and inclusion in the work that I do, which I believe makes me a
good fit with the work culture at UPower.

I look forward to meeting with you to discuss how else I can be of support to UPower. Please
feel free to reach out to me at alinaz3@uw.edu / alinazasimczuk1@gmail.com or (206)- 487-
9093 if you need additional information or references.

Sincerely,

Alina Zasimczuk
