and other writers. Maintain consistent communication with editors for proofreading and
workshopping articles for weekly publication. Write both short-form and long-form feature

Responsibilities: Work closely under Managing Editor to workshop stories for weekly print.
Receive press releases and write briefs. Attend weekly meetings with editor for line editing
sessions and discuss potential stories for upcoming print edition. Research community-based
organizations and events for local news reporting.

SANTA BARBARA INDEPENDENT EDITORIAL INTERN | JULY 2022 - SEPTEMBER 2022

Responsibilities: Work closely with senior editors, assisting with topic research and investigation
about a wide range of topics, including court cases to general subject matters. Write news briefs
from press releases. Contact potential interview subjects and conduct interviews in-person or
over the phone. Write stories featuring community organizations, individuals, and businesses.
Learn about proofreading and editing processes for articles going into publication.
