CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Context

Computers are used often today in a way that makes tasks quicker and simpler. The demand for dental

care services must keep pace with or at least expand in certain ways relative to existing methods as the

population expands. The clinic owner is looking for alternatives by using new technologies and

techniques to aid the patients because manual operations may no longer be efficient in handling or

accommodating patients. An enterprise called Dental Clinic Appointment System is in charge of giving

all different kinds of dental patients’ health medication and care. The system allows the user in selecting

time & date, then confirm booking without any manual intervention. The rise of the internet has made

people’s daily lives increasingly invisible to the network, and technology has changed many areas if life

today. The process is now considerably more efficient and can save time & money of the patients, instead

of the old method which is the physical approach/manual operations.

1.2 Purpose and Description

The proponents and client would like to produce a web base that will help the patients to make it easier to

schedule appointments and save’s a client information using a clear, transparent, and efficient manner.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

The main objective is to identify the benefits of web-based appointment scheduling and to produce a
faster & efficient services to the patients, a hassle-free appointment that will cater the busy schedule for
our clients to identify/satisfy their needs.
1.4 Specific Objectives

 To avoid patients to wait/overlapping of schedule.

 To reduce the assistant’s time to record patients.
 To make the business hassle free.
 To help the patients get the schedule they want.

1.5 Scope & Limitation

Scope

This system focuses on keeping patient waiting/overlapping of schedules and to make scheduling
appointment

easier. Manzo Dental Appointment System is a web-based system that enables the staff to encode patient
dental

records regarding with their cases, this system is design for staff and doctors to serves as a tool to help them

utilize the transactions and to organize patient records.

Limitations

Only the admin or secretariat would be able to access and manage the patient’s information and other

credentials such as email/address & number of appointments scheduled. The System is exclusively for
Manzo

Dental Clinic only. The system doesn’t cater online reservation or appointment it is only for viewing services

in the said clinic. Furthermore, the system doesn’t cover the accounting and finance. It only serves as a

monitoring tool and transactions for the Dentist of Dr. Manzo Dental Clinic.

Web-Based Medical Appointment System. (April 26, 2017)

Author: Zhao, Peng; Lavoie, Jaie; Beau James; Simoes, Eduardo.

Health care is changing with a new emphasis on patient-centeredness. Fundamental to this transformation is

the increasing recognition of patients' role in health care delivery and design. Medical appointment
scheduling,

as the starting point of most non-urgent health care services, is undergoing major developments to support

active involvement of patients. By using the Internet as a medium, patients are given more freedom in
decision

making about their preferences for the appointments and have improved access.

2.1.1 Summary

This chapter presents the researches and literature

which have significant bearings on the variables included in the research. It focuses on

several aspects that will help in the development of this study. Current system of the dental clinic also has

the system that can handle the process management as a computerized. But, there are a few problem

during using the system and that cause they used the manually system. So, this literature review has been

covered about the process of the manual system that cause the current system is difficult to use.

Management system actually has been used long time ago. Every organization needs a system that can

manage their data and process. In every company, keeping record are very important. For the clinic, it is

very important to keep the patient record for any reference. There is some method in keeping the record

such as using the manual method or the computerized method. The computerized system is better than
manual system in keeping record of the patients. Hence, using the computerized system has so many

advantages than the manual system.
