Y5 Feed Brake
To check the Y5 feed brake simply insert a feeler gauge between the armature and coil and check for .008”
gap +/- .002”. If the gap is outside the .006 to .010 operating range the brake will have to be inspected. If the brake
is not worn out the armature will need to be adjusted to achieve the correct gap.

Brake Gap Change
1. In order to inspect the brake loosen the set screw and slide the armature and drive disk away from the coil.
This may be possible by leaving the hex wrench in the set screw and tapping the wrench to cause the
armature to slide away from the coil. If more force is required remove the four socket head cap screws
form the coil and pry between the base of the coil and the frame.

2. Remove the entire Y1 feed clutch. Then remove the Feed roller, strap guide and entrance angle. Now you
will be able to remove the snap rings and feed shaft to replace the feed brake.

3. When reinstalling the feed brake’s drive disk (armature) gently tap it so it slides the drive disk and armature
on the shaft. With the feeler gauge in place slide the armature to the coil to get a brake gap to the .008” +/-
.002.

4. After the gap is set correctly, tighten the set screw.
