Diagnostic code errors for Version 2.

1
The following is a list of error codes and their typical causes, but should be used along with proper
troubleshooting techniques. Please call Technical support for assistance if this list does not help you find the
cause of your malfunction.
NOTE: these error codes will display differently if a custom display chip is used, i.e. B,1,2…, B,G,1… etc.

7 (Steady)
Service meaning: The MCU chip is inserted incorrectly or damaged, or the MCU board is damaged.

123 (pause) 2 (pause) 1 (pause)

This is not an error message, it is to confirm that the DPI is working properly and displays the version number.

6
The system is attempting to go thru the start-up sequence but is waiting for one or more of the following:

- All landing doors to be closed

- All cab gates to be closed
- Inspection key needs to be switched from inspection mode to run mode
- 120 vac cab lighting power is on

6_3
This a newer code, and can be caused by several internal checks.
- The MCU board is BES1 using version 2.1 chip
- BES2 MCU board is missing some important components
- The COP E-Stop is stuck in, or a wiring issue between the cop and the MCU board (white w/black)
- A cop floor button is stuck on or the wiring for them makes it appear so.
- Version 2.1 must use BES2 MCU board. At this point, system will not initialize.

7_1
Leveling system failure, system will shut down and only unlock and operate doors.

7_2 # Codes
Codes starting with 72, only display after the system attempts to restart due to the disconnect being
turned off and on, the MCU switch being turned off and on, or the system restarting by itself after
getting incorrect information from the positioning system.

It is a good idea to run the elevator in service mode to make sure it can move up and down the entire hoistway,
this will help eliminate many of the issues that could cause this type of fault.

It is important to know what the elevator is supposed to do during the start-up routine, in order to determine
what the cause of the malfunction is.
Start-up routine
- Cab moves up (at full speed) till the positioning system identifies the top floor codded strip (slotted metal
device), if the cab does not reach the top strip within 15 seconds it will stop and try again 3 more times
before faulting.
- Cab continues up to the top of the strip or till the top normal limit switch is hit, this switch cannot be hit
till at least 2 inches above the programed floor stopping point.
- The elevator then moves down in leveling speed 2 to 3 inches.
- The elevator then moves in leveling speed back to the top of the upper most codded strip or till the top
normal limit is activated.
- The elevator then moves down at full speed then slows and stops at the bottom of the strip.
- The system is now finished the start-up sequence
- The elevator moves up and stops at the programed floor stopping point for the top floor, (the door is not
activated) the display will display what the system thinks the top floor number is.

7_2_1
The System could not energize the contactors, or went to the top limit and never saw any signals from the
sensors.
If this code presents itself after the elevator clicks several times but does not move, the following may be the
cause;

- The batteries cannot supply enough power to pull in the contactors quickly (coil voltage < 16vdc)
- The overload connected to contactors is tripped. This is almost always the case if the valve can be heard
clicking, but the contactors don’t pull in.
- Signals are not getting from the cartop to terminal 72 or 20, these control the floor 2 and cab hoisting
relay respectively.
- No signals being received from either the upper or the lower sensors with the positioning system. (will
stop at bottom of top floor strip)
- The 1 amp fuse on the main controller is blown, (contactor will pull in and release quickly 4 times but
valve coils are energising).
- The top normal limit may be activated or appears to be due to a faulty switch or wiring issue.
- Low pressure switch is activated or appears to be due to a faulty switch or wiring issue.
- One of the following safeties or the wiring between them is open, pit e-stop, roof e-stop, final limit, or
slack rope switch. NOTE: the COP e-stop will not cause this error code

If the elevator runs all the way to the top of the shaft, the following may be the cause;

- Positioning sensors and codded strips are not aligned properly.

- MCU board is not receiving any signals from the upper and/or lower positioning sensors.

7_2_3
The system successfully turns on the contactors but the positioning system never recognizes the top coded strip
and never hits the top normal limit switch. The following may be the cause;

- The Pump is not adjusted properly and the cab takes too long to move up, or never moves, and may need
to be adjusted, will usually result in pump running pausing and running.
- Valve failure such that the cab cannot move the cab to the top in
- Insufficient hydraulic oil to move to the top of the shaft, will usually result in pump running pausing and
running.
- A mechanical reason the elevator cannot move up all the way to the top of the shaft, (The pressure would
go to the maximum in this case)
- Top normal limit is activated before the sensor reaches 2 inches above the programed stopping point on
the top coded strip.

7_2_4
The system successfully reached the top coded strip for the first time and did not move down and back up
afterwards. Possible Causes include;
-the upper or lower sensors are constantly on.
-Failure to move down
- Incorrect valve adjustments causing the system not to be able to move down in full speed.
- Line rupture valve failure or setting. (low pressure switch will read 0 psi)
- Mechanical reason the cab cannot move down, (low pressure switch will read 0 psi)
- Down valve or down high valve not operating due to wiring or failure.
-Failure to move up in leveling speed
- Up leveling valve settings
- Up valve not operating due to wiring or failure. (but valve did work for up full speed)
-Cab coasts down past the bottom of the top coded strip
- Down deceleration setting is too long, adjust out.

7_2_5
The system successfully reached the top coded strip two times but could not reach the bottom portion of the top
coded strip. Possible causes include;
- The down leveling speed is very slow
- The system cannot move down in leveling speed, but did move down in full speed.
- This can also be caused by the upper and lower sensor wiring being reversed.

7_2_6
The system was able to go up and down the top coded strip and the sensors saw the proper counts but the door
zone sensor never sent any signals.
- Door zone sensor failure
- Door zone wiring failure
- The sensor could not read the coded strip due to alignment, but the upper and lower sensors could.

7_4
The systems internal checks indicate relays are activated when they should not be activated during
start-up.
This code does NOT typically indicate that the relays have failed, but rather that they are getting signals
turning them on when they should not.
The elevator is shut down when this code is registered, and needs be restarted once the problem is
solved.
Typical causes;
- A hallway call button is stuck on or the wiring is shorted or incorrect and it appears on.
- The cab hoisting relay, cab lowering relay, down relay, or one of the floor relays are on when they are not
supposed to be on, or they appear to be on due to faulty or incorrect wiring.

7_5
The systems internal checks indicate relays are activated when they should not be activated during
regular operation.
This code does NOT typically indicate that the relays have failed, but rather that they are getting signals
turning them on when they should not.
The elevator is shut down when this code is registered, and needs be restarted once the problem is
solved.
Typical causes;
- A hallway call button is held on for 13 seconds after the door lock relocks or for Cambrian’s 13 seconds
after the door starts to open, stuck on or the wiring is shorted or incorrect and it appears on.
- The cab hoisting relay, cab lowering relay, down relay, or one of the floor relays are on when they are not
supposed to be on, or they appear to be on due to faulty or incorrect wiring.
