1.5.1 IWFM (Inter-Work Function Module) (data plane)

The FELT-B data-plane supports data in the downstream from eight independent
serial ports and traffic upstream from 16*10G, 18*2.5G or 36*1G ports.
The IWFM connects to the back-panel by 8* 10G-KR interface, 4 to NTA and 4 to
NTB. This interface rate can also reduced to lower rate to adapt to the shelf and NT
capabilities (2.5G or 1G). Similarly the amount of active links out of the 8 can be
adapted in function of the shelf and NT capabilities (1…8 active links).

Edition 03 3FE 69486 AAAA TQZZA 7

High speed Ethernet LT - version B FELT-B

For redundancy purposes, the IWF can connect to a peer FELT-B (located in an
adjacent slot such as 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, …) by a 8*10G-KR interface.

1.5.2 OBCM (On-Board Control Module) (control plane)

The FELT-B control plane supports the on-board device controls for traffic flow and
communication with NT for provisioning and status exchanges.
The OBC Block provides (but is not restricted to):
• UARTs
• General purpose timers
• Local Bus interface to peripheral components
• GPIOs for control/status lines, interrupt request lines, I2C interface to temperature
sensors, etc.

1.5.3 PWM (Power Module)

The power plane provides all the individual power supplies for the HW devices of the
FELT-B with additional monitoring (i.e. voltage monitors, thermal monitors) features.

1.5.4 CLKM (CLocK Module)

Local OSC/PLL provides the OBC/IWF reference clock.
The FELT-B local data-plane clock is synchronized with the NT clock references
using the back-panel NTR clocks from NTA/NTB (8KHz) . The local clock is then
distributed to all Ethernet ports by means of Synchronous Ethernet.
FELT-B supports 2 SyncE clocks extract from the data interfaces (36*1G or 16*10G).
FELT-B monitors the clock quality of these two ports, selects the qualified clock for
SYNCE output through a BITS Out interface.
FELT-B also supports IEEE 1588v2 Tranparent Clock (TC) and Boundary Clock (BC)
mode of operations. The IEEE 1588v2 BC is implemented in a “distributed way”, i.e.
• A IEEE 1588v2 Slave Clock (SC) is located on the NT board (an NT variant
supporting IEEE 1588vs ToD must be selected for this mode)
• The NT distribute the frequency, ToD and 1pps information to all line cards
through the back-panel
• A IEEE 1588v2 Master Clock (MC) is located on the FELT-B board allowing for
IEEE 1588v2 BC maximum scalability at ISAM level

1.6 External Interfaces

The NELT-B has the following external interfaces:
• On the front panel (see also Figure 7):
• Ethernet interfaces
• BITS OUT interface
• On the back panel:
• Serdes interfaces
• Clock interfaces
• PSU interface

1.6.1 Ethernet Interfaces

The FELT-B is equipped with 18 SFP cages that can host any of the following SFP
modules:
• Standard SFP (FE/GE/2.5GE/Smart SFP)
• Compact SFP (FE/GE)
• SFP+ (10GE)

Note — Maximum 16 out of the 18 cages can be equipped with

an SFP+ module.

1.6.2 BITS OUT Interface

The BITS OUT interface is implemented on the front panel by means of a generic
RJ45 connector (with embedded, but uncontrolled LEDs). It provides a BITS output
signal (E1/T1) carrying the frequency retrieved from the FELT-B Ethernet ports using
SyncE.
That BITS output can be connected to the NT card BITS input interface for ISAM
synchronization purposes.

1.6.3 SerDes Interfaces

The FELT-B has following types of SerDes interfaces:
• Peer LT connections: 8 x 10 SerDes
• These 8 SerDes interfaces work in load sharing mode, providing a throughput of up
to 80 Gb/s to a peer FELT-B located in an adjacent LT slot position. This interface is
only used whenever a pair of adjacent FELT-B boards are configured to work in
duplex mode (i.e. FELT-B redundancy).
• NTA/NTB connections: 8 x 10 SerDes
• The SerDes interface can auto-negotiate to 1GE, 2.5GE and 10GE. Up to four
interfaces connect to the NTA while the other four connect to the NTB.
• These 8 SerDes interfaces work in load sharing mode, providing a throughput of up
to 80 Gb/s towards the NT boards. The actual capacity depends on the subrack (and
NT types) as listed in Table 3.

1.6.4 Clock Interfaces

Following clock interfaces are present on the back panel:
• NTR A/B : Two Network Timing Reference signals carrying a 8 KHz signal from
each NT board.
• One PPS/ToD A/B : There are two interfaces of these interfaces, i.e one per NT
board. Each interface carries two multiplexed signals from one NT board : a 1PPS
(1 Pulse Per Second) and a ToD (Time of Day) signal used for IEEE 1588v2 BC
operations).

1.6.5 PSU Interface

This is the Power Supply interface located on the back panel.

• SFP or SFP+ module (single port per cage): the first LED (at the left side of the
SFP cage) indicates the link status while the second LED (at the right side of the
SFP cage) indicates the interface speed .
• cSFP (two ports per cage): each LED indicates the link status of the
corresponding link (2 links per SFP cage).

Table 5 gives the LED definition for each of the 36 link LEDs.
