Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the challenges of online distance

learning in Grade 12 students on their academic performance.

Specially, it seeks to answer the following question.

1.what is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 Sex 1.4 Age

1.2 Grade level 1.5 Location

1.3 Strand
2.what is the effect of distance learning in Grade 12 student on their academic

perfomance

3. is there a significant relationships between ODL and the academic

perfomance of the students

Back ground of the study

When the impacts of covid 19 hit the educational sector in full force

schools scramble to adapt to the pandemic they adapted a new system of

learning that keep both students and educators safe from the virus. And this

switch led to significant change in the educational system the most notable

being the mass adoption of distance learning system

As parents and students a like tried to adapt to the challenge of the necessary

switch to distance learning educators did not consider the effects of distance

learning on students academic performance. In this article we will discuss how

changing to distance learning has affected students

Conceptual framework

This study is anchored in Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known

as the Higher Education Act of 1994. The State shall protect, foster and

promote the right of all citizens to affordable quality education at all levels and

shall take appropriate steps to ensure that education shall be accessible to all.
The State shall likewise ensure and protect academic freedom and shall

promote its exercise and observance for the continuing intellectual growth, the

advancement of learning and research, the development of responsible and

effective leadership, the education of high-level and meddle -level

professionals,And the enrichment of our historical and cultural heritage .

The conceptual framework of the study used input-process-out (IPO),

Whereas the input od the study that the researchers aim to provide is the

effecs of academic

online distance learning among Senior High school students. Hence to be able

to impsrt a good knowledge and understanding. This study will affect most of

the learners and readers

The process of this study is by making research study, conducting and

gathering data which requires for the researchers to prepare and provide

questionnaire survey and to create an analysis and interpretation data.

The output of this study is the information tool, the demographic

profile of the respondents and the effecs of academic motivation level among

Senior High school students.

Definition of terms

For better understanding of this study, following terms are operationally

defined.

Online distance learning -It refers to the altunative mode of learning, It is not

done inside the school.

Academic performance -If refers to the final grade for the quarters. It is

composed as written works and performance tasks.

Media -There are communication channels though which news. Entertainment,

education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated.

Students per online distance learning – It is a type of online that uses gadgets

for the students to learn

Significance of the Study

The study benefits the following:

Deped- This research offer a brand new avenue in the education industry since

the pandemic started.

Deped ensure the continuity of learning through ODL self learning modules

based on the most assential learning competencies. School administration this

research benefits the institution itself for the improvement of the learning

system.
Teacher- menters of the respondents can also benefit from this research. They

can develop a good communication between their students and have a good

communication and comprehension on the learning process and development .

Student-others were engaged with awareness on time management and they

were empowered with more knowledge about this benefits and improving me’s

self regulation skills which then help them to prevent mental health problems

and also strengths them to face their struggles

Parents- This study would motivate the parents to extend more assistance and

guide their child through online lessons that would be sent to.

Future researcher- The recuit of this research will source as a guide for future

researchers in conducting related studies and can make result by using it as a

guide for similar studies they will conduct.

Theoritical

This paper aimed to provide a holistic view of research that investigated online

learning in higher education around the globe during COVID‐19 utilizing a

bibliometric analysis. The researchers used co‐citation analysis and text

mining afforded by VOSviewer to document and analyze research patterns and

topics reported in peer‐reviewed documents published between January 2020

and August 2021. Findings of this study indicated that scholars from 103

countries or regions from the Global North and Global South investigated a
wide array of topics, such as use of various technologies and strategies,

redesigned curriculum, student perceptions and psychological impacts of the

pandemic‐imposed online learning. Many researchers applied technology

acceptance theories and structural equation modeling to investigate factors

associated with adoption and impacts of the pandemic‐imposed online

learning. Of the large quantity of research, medical education and chemical

education were the most investigated disciplines. Inquiry‐based learning,

discovery learning, hands‐on learning and collaborative learning emerged as

instructional approaches frequently discussed or utilized across the target

studies. This paper discussed (a) ongoing and emerging challenges to online

higher education, (b) placing innovative pedagogies at the forefront of online

learning, and (c) rapid, but imbalanced distribution of evolving literature based

on the findings.

Practitioner notes

What is already known about this topic

Online learning had attracted growing traction as a flexible and affordable

means to complement traditional higher education prior to COVID‐19.

Higher education institutions (HEIs), faculty and students around the globe

have encountered various challenges and opportunities regarding online

teaching and learning during COVID‐19.

What this paper adds

A bird’s‐eye‐view perspective of how HEIs around the globe responded to the

pandemic‐imposed online teaching and learning using the bibliometric

methodology.

Identifications of a large body of research (n = 1061 documents) conducted by

scholars from 103 countries or regions that investigated the pandemic‐imposed

online higher education, indicating an unprecedented level of participation in

this area.

An analysis of distinct themes arising from research on the pandemic‐imposed

online learning, such as medical education and psychological impact,

chemistry curriculum and laboratory‐based instruction and technology

acceptance model.

Implications for practice and/or policy

The large corpus of studies on online higher education from different aspects

can provide cross‐disciplinary information guiding future research and design

of online learning.

With technology often conceptualized as the solution to support online

learning, it is imperative to put innovative pedagogy at the forefront of the

design of online teaching and learning.
