Johne's disease is a chronic gastrointestinal disease most common in cattle and buffaloes under 6 months old. Clinical signs include severe weight loss and emaciation, decreased milk production, and chronic or intermittent diarrhea appearing around 4 years of age. Diagnosis depends on a history of chronic diarrhea unresponsive to treatment and progressive weight loss through intradermal testing. It must be differentiated from other causes of chronic diarrhea like salmonellosis, coccidiosis, parasitism, copper deficiency, and other chronic debilitating diseases.
