CHARACTERS AND CHARACTERISTICS IN KUNGFU PANDA 1 (Alysha and

Khaleeda)

Kung Fu Panda is an American animated action-comedy movie made by

DreamWorks in 2008. It tells about a panda who is enthusiastic about kung fu and
dreams to become a kung fu master. Along with his fellow friends, the Furious Five
are battling the enemies to save the valley of peace. Thus, there are three important
characters in this film such as Po, Master Shifu and Tigress.

The first character that I want to talk about is Po and his personalities. Po is the
main protagonist in the movie. He is adopted by Mr. Ping because his hometown
was raided by a peacock and a pack of wolves which caused his biological family to
separate. Despite being adopted, Po is a loving and clumsy son, he would always
support Mr. Ping family noodle shop. Not only that, but he is also a big eater too.
However, Po likes to express his love for kung fu, his enthusiasm for kung fu has led
him to become the “Dragon Warrior”. Po is a hardworking panda after which he
started training under Master Shifu. Therefore, he was able to prove everyone and
himself that he is a hero by defeating Tai Lung and claimed the Dragon Scroll.

Next, Master Shifu, the one who took Po as one of his students and the trainer
for many warriors in China and Furious Five. To add, he is also the adoptive father of
Tigress and Tai Lung. He was a loving father until Tai Lung betrayed him. He
became distant and strict to his students but after taking Po as one of his students,
he was able to get rid of his cruel sense of humor and attain his inner peace.
Moreover, another strong characteristic of Master Shifu is his obedience to his
master which is Master Oogway. This strong sense of obedience can be seen when
he decided to train Po to become the next Dragon Warrior because of Master
Oogway’s final instructions. Thus, after Tai Lung’s defeat, he has become mentally
and physically healthier knowing that the valley is safe from Tai Lung.

The third and final character is Tigress, one of the main supporting characters
in Kung Fu Panda. Tigress is the leader in Furious Five, the adoptive daughter of
Master Shifu, and the adoptive younger sister of Tai Lung. Tigress is the strongest in
Furious Five, she has every stereotypical quality of a hero such as brave, fearless,
and willing to do anything to save the world. However, out of five of them, she was
the only one who was skeptical of Po’s Dragon Warrior title because she believed
she deserved that title while her comrades grew respect for him despite having the
lack of training for kung fu. Besides having a stoic exterior, she is warm and
compassionate inside, she began to become more playful after they accepted Po to
join Furious Five. It can be seen in the film that she was playing around with the
panda training doll like a cat playing with a ball of wool. Hence, Po joining the
Furious Five made her become more accepting and affectionate.

In conclusion, these characters have their own distinct characteristics and each
of them are unique. For example, Po, who is clumsy and loveable meanwhile Master
Shifu, who is calm and patient and Tigress, who is brave and serious. Up to this
point of the story, this movie is really inspiring and teaches me a lesson. It reminds
me of the right attitude we should always keep even when faced with gigantic
obstacles. In our life, we can’t be smooth sailing although we work hard. However,
living by such concept, we will gain numerous experiences including failure and
success, which is the opportunity for improvement. All in all, everybody’s existence
has its own duty and specialization, we should respect every life’s living and, and at
the same time believing ourselves are competent, and never give up.
