I wanted to take a minute to remember some fond memories of Grandad.

He was warm and caring,

and it always struck me how much he respected my life choices, despite them being vastly different
from his own. He understood how times had changed, and always offered support however he could.

Of course, Grandad had many interesting habits too, keeping every receipt he ever got, and a book
that he’d handwritten the numbers 1 to 10,000 in. We think he drew over one every time he finished
a game of FreeCell, but we may never know. He had to make sure everything was done properly,
whether that be watering his plants, or even shutting the curtains, but he was always quick to laugh
at himself too. We spent hours watching the Chase and Andre Rieu documentaries many times over,
spurred on by his love for classical music. He often provided his own running commentaries, always
happy to provide some dry, Yorkshire humour.

Grandad was present, engaged, and intelligent. Playing cards over the last few months showed me
that he never lost his quiet enthusiasm for life, always excited at winning a hand or analysing a
position. Grandad was a pillar of friendly advice and gentle love, and he will be missed by all of us.
