Hello viewers, today we will be discussing Information Literacy.

What is Information Literacy?

It is the ability to recognize when information is needed, and to identify, locate, and access appropriate
sources of info and details to meet the information needed for various formats. This is most notably
used in situations that require decision-making, problem solving, or the acquisition of knowledge.

Why is Information Literacy needed?

Due to new information being made and found every day and spreading it worldwide, people use it in
their academic studies, workplace, and even their personal lives. Information can be found in libraries,
news outlet, Medias, and the Internet. Based on the information you have gathered, you can use it to
make better decisions and identifying if the information is true to the original source by using your
critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Although knowing new information is great, there are some cases that it will result in misleading or even
false information about news, topics, discussions, and the existence of such things. Due to the
advancement of technology, anyone can create anything they want and post it in social media and news
outlet, including information about the news, topics, and rumors that are fictional, and they can’t be
easily distinguished from the actual thing unless provided and proven by credible sources or from a
thorough research done by people such as you, the viewer.

With all that out of the way, we will now answer the following questions:

What are examples of formats used by information literacy?

Information Literacy as stated before can be used in 4 types of formats. These are: Information
Technology Fluency, Ways of Thinking, Problem Solving, and Communication.

 Information Technology Fluency – It is the ability to critically think while engaging with,
creating, and utilizing information and technology, regardless of format or platform.
 Ways of Thinking - It is the way in which your mind works, or the process of thinking about
something.
 Problem Solving – It is the act of defining a problem; determining the cause of the problem;
identifying, prioritizing, and selecting alternatives for a solution; and implementing a solution.
 Communication - It is a process of creating and sharing ideas, information, views, facts, feelings
from one place, person or group to another.

Why is information literacy important?

Information Literacy is very important because it helps you to be aware of such unreliable,

misleading information and to evaluate sources effectively, both in an academic setting and in general.
Additionally, it encourages and informs problem-solving and critical thinking, and it gives people the
freedom to discover information on their ownnnn so that they can come to decisions with informed
judgments using their newfound knowledge. For people to effectively use and share knowledge, they
need to be able to identify biases, comprehend context, and assess it, making these skills crucial for
independent and lifelong learning.

That is all about Information Literacy, thank you for watching.
