Preliminary Work
1.
2. Protect the circuit by preventing the excessive current flow into the circuit when a
fault happened.
3. RCCB
4. Three phase supply can provide greater power density than the single-phase supply
with the same amperage. Therefore, it can reduce the fluorescent lamps from
flickering.
5. LED Lamps
6. LED s have long lifespan. Use less energy than other types.
7. In ring, power can be supplied from both ends. The voltage drop is less along the
distribution line than the radial type.
8. Max. Combined wattage = 32A x 230 V = 7360 W
For N numbers of = N x 7360 W
9. In the kitchen, there are refrigerator, microwave oven, electric kettle, rice cooker and
many more. Therefore, it will consume large load if all needed to work
simultaneously. Therefore, it is better having a separate ring circuit for the kitchen.
And also ring system can pass the current for both ways (clockwise or anticlockwise)
with thinner cables. It is also a benefit of using the ring circuit.
10. i. Energy: Use to move the charges through the wires to make current in the
circuit.
ii. Power: Rate of electrical energy transferred or used in electrical installation
circuit.
11. Measures the amount of electric energy that used in the circuit.
12.

Units Unit rate Total charge

001 – 029 7.85 227.65

030 – 058 7.85 227.65
059 – 087 10.00 290.00
088 – 116 27.75 804.75
117 – 174 32.00 1856.00
175 – 468 45.00 13230.00

Total charge is = 227.65*2 + 290 + 804.75 + 1856.00 + 13230.00

= 16636.05

Part 4
1. 13A socket and plug outlet or type G sockets.
2. Energy meter, MCB, RCCB, Single pole MCBs in distribution board, Switch,
Sockets, Electronic appliances and bulbs.
3. Rated voltage: 230 V, Rated current 5 - 40 A
No if cannot use to measure the reactive power consumption.
4. When the excess current flow through the MCB, bimetallic strip will heat and bend
and release a latch. That latch will turn off the MCB.
Swich is use to turn on and off the circuit and hasn’t any mechanism to react to the
overflow current.
5. Advantage: It is very cheaper than the MCB.
Disadvantage: Not much sensitive than the MCB.
6. There is a permanent magnet with winded coil around it in the RCD. When the fault
signal received due to the earthing, coil will use to generate magnetic field that can
reject the field of permanent magnet. When the magnetic field disabled, RCD will
trip.

7. Because it can control and supply the amperage to each sub systems. Easy to ensure
the security separately against the short circuits.
