Secure VPN-less Remote Access Instructions

This article walks you through connecting to AFS Resources through our Secure VPN-less Remote Access, allowing
authorized users to access internal web applications and remote desktop services without a VPN connection.

This remote access method, while primarily intended for Contractors and other 3rd parties, is available to any
authorized user.

Requirements
• A User Account on the AFS Network authorized for Remote Access

Client Requirements
RD Web HTML 5 Client RDC Client

HTML5-compatible web browser such as Microsoft Windows 7/10/11 using Edge Chromium IE mode +
Edge, Internet Explorer 11, Google Chrome, Safari, or RDS ActiveX add-on.
Mozilla Firefox (v55.0 and later)

Instructions
The use of the RDC Client requires pre-requisite configuration of the Edge Chromium IE Mode and the
allowance of the RDS ActiveX add-on.

Configuring Edge Chromium IE mode


1. Open Microsoft Edge
2. Click the Settings and More (ellipsis) button on the top-right corner.
3. Select the Settings option.
4. Click on Default browser.
5. Under the “Internet Explorer compatibility” section, Set the drop down selection next to “Allow sites to be
reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” to Allow.
6. Under “Internet Explorer Mode Pages” section, Click Add and enter in the URL
https://remoteapps.afs.net/RDWeb/Pages/en-US/Default.aspx.
7. Click Add.

8. Restart Microsoft Edge.


Accessing the Remote Desktop Web Portal
1. Open your Web Browser
2. Navigate to https://remoteapps.afs.net/
3. Follow the authentication workflow

4. On the “Stay Signed In” prompt. If you’re on a Public or Shared computer Select No. If you’re on a private
computer Select Yes.
5. You will be redirected to the Remote Desktop Web Client Sign In. Enter your AFS Username and Password once
more and click Sign In.
6. Click on the desired Resource for the task you need to perform to launch the resource.

7. On the “Access Local Resources” prompt, Click Allow.

8. Now you will be connected to your remote resource.
