1 Scope
The following calculation is based on the German guideline DVS 2205-5 for rectangular work shop
fabricated tanks of thermoplastic materials according DVS 2205-1. The measurements used in this
calculation are based on statements of customer. The measurements used in this calculation are based
on the design drawings.

The welding seams should be in accordance with the corresponding DVS guideline.

In case the tank is reinforced, the corner connections of the reinforcing beams have to be bend-resistant.

Remark:
For the calculation the values and the formula symbols of the guideline DVS 2205-5 are used. These are
shown in the annex of the calculation.

The cross-ribbing is calculated on the basis yoke reinforcement. Assumed that all hydrostatic
pressures are carried from the yoke reinforcement, the horizontal ribs are used to reduce the panel
sizes. The yokes and the horizontal ribs are no t needed to have the same section.

3.1 Calculation of the yokes

The yokes were calculated as continuous beams on two supports with cantilever arms on both sides.
These cantilever arms absorb triangular loads and the support takes up an area load equal to the
bearing load. The continuous beam is supported on the outer edges.
Continuous beams and cantilever arms are welded together so that they are resistant to bending.
Lengthwise supports were not taken into account for calculating the yokes.

The maximum bending of the braces on the top container edge consists of two parts:

- Deformation from bending of the brace due to the triangular load.

- Rigid body torsion due to yielding of the bottom reinforcement corner.

For the calculation, bending of the yoke reinforcement was limited to the value (%) of the container
height listed below.

3.1.3 Calculation of the edge reinforcement

The deflection of the edge reinforcement is calculated as a mean between freely supported and fixed
beam with line load. The edge reinforcement takes up 1/5 th of the wall load as line load. If the distance
of the yokes is small with respect to the tank height, lower load is considered.

The permissible deflection is a

3.1.4 Calculation of the horizontal ribbs

The horizontal ribbs are used for holding the plastic walls and for reducing the panels between the
yokes. The horizontal ribs are calculated as both side fixed beams strained with area loading. The
loading is a result from the hydrostatic pressure from the stored mediu m. The deflection is limited on
1 % of the height of the lowest panel.

Calculation base
The tank calculation is based on the guideline DVS 2205 and in its mentioned guides such as DIN, EN, AD -Merkblätter in that
version which is valid at time of programmin g this version of RITA.
In detail, the following technical regulations are required for sizing the components:
The nominal material values are determined in accordance with DVS 2205 -1 (01.15), with the supplementary pages 1 (11.11), 2
(09.13), 3 (09.13) and 4 (09.13).
The reducing coefficients for the media flow were taken from the media list 40 Issue 03.2016 of the (Deutsches Institut für
Bautechnik, German Institute for Building Technology) Berlin.
Rectangular tanks are calculated according to the guideli ne DVS 2205-5 (07.87)
Unlike stipulated by the DVS directive, the calculation of the reinforcement profiles is based on an analytic collection of f ormulas
verified through FE calculations by TÜV Rheinland LGA Bautechnik GmbH.
The steel reinforcement profile considerations are based on 1025-1 (05.95), 1025-2 (11.95), 1025-5 (03.94), 1026-2 (05.99), DIN
EN 10056-1 (10.98) und 10219-2 (11.97).
