A. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS

Good Neighbors International Philippines implements community development programs

by supporting the self-sufficient and sustainable development of a community through
various projects which includes Income Generation. The objective of the Income
Generation program is to build economic capacity and stability that will contribute to the
overall increase of families’ economic condition. The program focuses on needs-based
livelihood projects. Presently, there are 7 community development project areas with
savings groups that are engage either in pure savings or with livelihood component such as
rice retailing, farming, food processing, fish processing, livestock raising and handicrafts
making.

Savings group for every community development project areas are sporadic and produce
products in a small scale capacity which is sometimes per order basis or client dependent.
Access to a wider market scope is limited and if there is a demand the group cannot sustain
or comply with the volume. Product quality is also a problem in competing with similar
products in the market.

As a sustainability mechanism and to achieve economy of scale, Good Neighbors

International Philippines organized the various savings group to form a municipal level
cooperative. Through the cooperative, production and market access will be enhanced.
However, there are challenges that the cooperatives will have to address such as capturing
customer segments, access to product development services, government programs, export
market and partnership with various organizations.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with various organizations and
agencies conducts national trade fair yearly. It aims to help expand the presence of
MSMEs in the domestic market, showcase and mainstream their products as well as a
venue for meeting product development consultants and potential buyers for domestic and
export market. Aside from DTI, there are also other organizations that sponsor trade fair
and exhibit for MSMEs.

B. GOAL: To mainstream market competitive products of Cooperatives and establish

partnership with buyers and service providers.

1. Access to market and product development consultants/services.
