Ancient Egypt was a civilization of ancient North Africa, situated along the flow of

the Nile River. It formed when Upper and Lower Egypt united. Egypt reached the
peak of its power in the New Kingdom, ruling much of Nubia and a portion of the
Near East. The population of this civilisation grew up to almost 3 million in one
millenium BC, a very impressive fact considering the population then was around
100 million people.

The Nile has been the lifeline of its region for much of human history. The fertile
floodplain of the Nile gave humans the opportunity of develope settled agricultural
economy and a more sophisticated, centralised society that became a cornerstone
in the history of human civilisation. In predynastic and Early Dynastic times, the
Egyptian climate was much less arid than it is today. Foliage and fauna were far
more prolific in all environs of waterfowl. Hunting would have been common for
Egyptians, and this is also the period when many animals were first domesticated.

Cleopatra was born a princess of Egypt. Her father was the Pharaoh Ptolemy XII.
Cleopatra was smart and cunning growing up. ..She was her father's favorite child
and learned a lot about how the country was ruled from him.
Cleopatra's family had ruled Egypt for 300 years. They were the Ptolemy dynasty
that had been established by the Greek ruler Alexander the Great. Even though
they ruled Egypt, they were actually of Greek descent. Cleopatra grew up speaking,
reading, and writing Greek. Unlike many of her relatives, however, Cleopatra also
learned many other languages including Egyptian and Latin.
Ancient Egyptian art includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, jewelry,
architecture, and other art media. It is very conservative: the art style changed very
little over time. Much of the surviving art comes from tombs and monuments,
giving more insight into the ancient Egyptian afterlife beliefs. Egyptians used a lot of
materials like: wood, glass, metals, faience, egyptian blue and a crystal called "Lapiz
Lazuli". Lapiz Lazuli was and is used for self-awareness, healing, self-expression and
growth.

After the rulers passed away, ancient egyptians believed that they then became
Gods. To prepare for this journey into the afterlife, they constructed elaborate
tombs, just as The Great Pyramids of Giza are, that they filled with all the pharaohs
valuable things including gold, jewelry, food and even pets. These massive stone
buildings are considered to be a symbol of architectural perfection and because of
that, the building techniques that were used in their construction are still being a
mystery. To this day, the pyramids represent the innovative and cultural might of
the egyptian people.
