A pen is a writing instrument that is used to apply ink to a surface, typically paper, to

create written text or drawings. It consists of a hollow tube or barrel that holds the ink, a
mechanism to control the flow of ink onto the writing surface, and a tip or nib that
comes into contact with the surface.

Pens come in various types, including ballpoint pens, rollerball pens, fountain pens, gel
pens, and felt-tip pens. Each type has its own unique characteristics and uses.

Ballpoint pens are the most common type of pen and use a small rotating ball at the tip
to dispense ink as it is rolled across the paper. They are known for their smooth writing
and long-lasting ink.

Rollerball pens are similar to ballpoint pens but use liquid ink, resulting in a smoother
and more fluid writing experience.

Fountain pens have a reservoir or cartridge that holds liquid ink, which is drawn to the
nib by capillary action. They offer a distinctive writing experience and are often favored
by enthusiasts for their elegance and the ability to create different line widths.

Gel pens use a gel-based ink that is thicker and more opaque than traditional liquid ink.
They are known for their vibrant colors and smooth writing.

Felt-tip pens, also known as marker pens, have a porous tip made of felt or other fibrous
material that holds liquid ink. They are commonly used for drawing, coloring, and
highlighting due to their ability to produce bold and precise lines.

Pens are widely used for writing, note-taking, drawing, signing documents, and various
other tasks that require manual inscription. They are available in different sizes, colors,
and designs, and are commonly found in homes, offices, schools, and various
professional settings.
