The Forefathers of the

Prophet Muhammad a

The late Syrian hadith expert (muḥaddith, ar. ‫ )حمدث‬Shaykh ʿAbd-Allāh Sirāj
al-Dīn (may Allah have mercy upon his soul) has mentioned in his work,
Hadī al-qur’ān al-karīm ilā maʿrifat al-ʿawālim wa al-tafakkur fī al-akwān.

The noble parents of our Prophet Muhammad a as well as his forefathers

were the best of the Arabs, they were their leaders and benefactors. Known
for their generosity and nobility, they were a means of salvation for those
who had no hope, helpers of the distressed, rescuers of the oppressed, and
those who would assist the destitute.

The Arabs would approach them to settle disputes and differences.

It has been related by Abū Nuʿaym and others on the authority of [ʿAbd-
Allāh] Ibn ʿAbbās that the Messenger of Allah a said, “Allah has transferred
me from pure loins to pure wombs.”

Allah u says in the Glorious Qur’an,

ٌ َ َ ُ ْ ُ ْ َ َّ
‫رْشكون جَنَس‬
ِ ‫إِنما الم‬
“Verily, the polytheists (al-mushrikūn) are impure” (9:28).

Al-Rāzī (543-606) states: It is essential [to know] that not a single person
from the forefathers of the Prophet s were polytheists; for if they were, the
hadith would contradict the Qur’anic verse.
