Hydrological Data Fusion Research Associate and Postdoc Position at National Taiwan University

Position Highlights

The Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering at the National Taiwan University (NTU)
invites applications for a motivated Research Associate and a Postdoctoral Scholar in hydrology or
machine learning. The research emphasis is primarily on the interaction and feedbacks between the
subsurface and terrestrial processes. The successful applicant will work to advance our ability to
characterize the subsurface properties as they pertain to impacts on buffering capacity of
hydrological system.

In this exciting role, the applicant will be responsible for integrating temporal and spatial datasets
collected by a diverse set of field teams as well as from public remote sensing databases. The primary
task is focused on big and diverse data analysis, integration and scaling using machine learning
techniques, characterizing the subsurface, and understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of
hydrological functioning. In addition, there is also flexibility in the type of research that will be
determined based on the strength and experience of the candidate.

What You Will Do:

• Analyze data and extract patterns and correlations from environmental datasets using
appropriate data mining methods.
• Develop and implement machine learning based algorithms for integrating spatiotemporal
datasets for subsurface characterization.
• Author peer-reviewed conference or journal papers, and contribute to grant proposals.
• The applicant doesn't have to meet all the requirements or qualifications below. You are

What is Required:

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Hydrology, Environmental Science/Engineering, Remote Sensing,

Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or other related disciplines.
• Experience and knowledge with environmental, hydrological, and/or remote sensing
datasets and research practices.
• Theoretical understanding and application of data analysis methods such as statistical
techniques, signal processing, pattern recognition, or data-informed modeling.
• Demonstrate ability to publish research in relevant journals
• Work independently and in an integrated team environment
• Strong and effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with libraries, frameworks, or workflow tools that enable data analytics and
machine learning (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Keras, Tensorflow, Jupyter Notebooks).
• Demonstrate record of publications and conference presentations.
Salary
• $38,000 - $65,000 NTD a month ($456,000 - $780,000 NTD a year)
• $1,200 - $2,100 USD a month ($15,000 - $26,000 USD a year)
• This is a full-time, two-year, appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon
satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
• Salary for Research Associate and Postdoctoral positions depends on the qualifications and
years of post-degree work experience.

Location: This job will be located at NTU facility in Taipei, Taiwan.
