Dr. Patangrao Kadam established Bharati Vidyapeeth in Pune in the year 1964 with an advent mission that Bharati
Vidyapeeth defines for itself to bring intellectual awakening in people through the spread of education and develop
human resource needed for the upliftment of the country in its every sphere, particularly in economic arena.
April 26, 1996 was the moment of crowning glory in the life of Bharati Vidyapeeth as well as of Dr. Kadam. It is the
day, the Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi granted the
status of "Deemed to be University" to a cluster of 12 institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth in appreciation of their
academic excellence. It was the day a dream come true for Dr. Kadam, who cherished an ambition of gaining the
stature of a university for Bharati Vidyapeeth since its inception. Thus, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University)
came into existence on that day. It was an inimitable Deemed to be University.

Unlike most of the Deemed Universities in the country, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune is a multi-disciplinary and multi-
campus Deemed to be University, presently having under its umbrella 29 institutions of various disciplines. The
University has established its credentials and reputation as a leading Deemed to be University in the country. Taking
advantage of the autonomy which, it has and the flexibility which it can offer, this University has introduced numerous
innovative academic programmes and activities.

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune established in 1983, a constituent unit of
BV University with A Grade status by MHRD, A+ grade by NAAC and holds a place of pride and is amongst the most
reputed institutes of India. It has been ranked to 83rd by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) with
criteria wise ranking as 2nd in Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), 81st in Graduate Outcome (GO), 93rd in Perception
(PR), and 136th in Teaching Learning Resources (TLR) and 137th in Research Professional Practices (RPC). Further,
DATAQUEST-CMR national survey also ranked this institute to 3 rd among private technical institutions of India, 29 th
by Times of India & 45 th Ranking by Outlook. AICTE-Internshala ranked this Institute to 6 th at National level and 1st
in west zone for Best Internship Record. This is the only institute from state of Maharashtra selected by MHRD for its
Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-II – 1.1 Programme) for the grant of Rs. 4 Crores.

BVUCOE, Pune offers 10 graduate, 08 post graduates programmes and Doctoral programmes in 08 disciplines. All
Programmes are accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) thrice.

The library of the institute is a five storied building and houses periodical section, computer center, reading hall,
reference section etc. It contains more than 69,000 books, 19,000 volumes, 72 national, 70 international journals
subscriptions and digital library facility. Digital library of institute with 66,944 number of journals in E-form is one of
the richest sources of knowledge in E-form for students and faculty members. The Library, Laboratories, Equipment,
learning resources and Software constantly get upgraded and updated in tune with the changing technology, curriculum
and needs of hour. An investment of Rs.14.15 Crores is made on Laboratories in the last five years. Further, Institute
has its own spacious well designed building measuring 26,286 sq. m. and it houses 101 labs, 43 class rooms, and 21
tutorial rooms. The structured faculty development programme has strengthened quality of Teaching-Learning Process
in the institute. 42 faculty members with Ph.D. qualifications have been proved as resources for research, innovations
and sound Teaching-Learning Process. As a part of quality improvement programme, 05 faculty members were
deputed in International Universities, Institutions of national importance such as IIT, NIT etc. for qualification
improvement. Team of 209 faculty members with average experience of 11.58 years and average age 37 years
designates team of teachers with fine blend of experience and youth. Faculty members are well conversant and trained
for use of latest software and latest equipment being purchased every year as policy of upgrading laboratories. Institute
organized 189 number of continuing education programmes in last five years to keep sharpen skills of faculty
members.
Further, 1389 faculty members were deputed to attend various workshops and training programmes for sharing and
enhancing their knowledge. Faculty members also play active role in curriculum development as Member of Board of
Studies of various subjects and other statutory bodies of the University.

The research is indicative of the university penchant for quality. The research publications in reputed international and
national refereed journals and conferences have shown a steady and significant rise over the years, which is aptly
reflected by 1135 Research papers publications in reputed national and international journals in last five years. Grant of
Rs. 846 Lakhs in last five years from funding agencies such as UGC, DST, DRDO, AICTE etc. is strong gauge of
research aptitude of faculty members. Seed money up to Rs. 3 lakhs under Institutionally Funded Research Programme
(IFRP) to faculty members nurtures their research aptitude. 938 numbers of publications in standard research databases
such as SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Google Scholar etc. in last five years throws light on quality of publications by
faculty members of this institute. These publications by faculty members have received 569 numbers of citations in the
same period. Institute has 02 patents to its credit and filed 22 patents out of which published 20 patents in last three
years.

The institute has collaboration with international universities such as North Carolina A & T State University,
Greensboro, USA, Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering USA, The University of Tokushima, Japan,
ARM University, USA and with industries such as TCS, SKF India Ltd. Every year one faculty member is deputed for
Ph. D. programme in NCAT with scholarship. Students of M. Tech. (Nanotechnology) join JSNN, USA to pursue their
dissertation research work for six months with scholarship to the tune of $1000 per month. These Universities
contributes intellectually and financially to organize biannual international conference NANOCON. Three editions of
NANOCON are conducted since 2010 in association with JSNN, USA.

In association with Eduvance&GAATsis, a “Center of Excellence in Embedded Systems” is established in the Institute
with Educational kits like ARM development boards from ARM University Program and PSoC kits by Cypress
Semiconductors. TCS supports students and faculty members for faculty enablement programmes and student
development programme. Establishment of Lubricant Conditioning Monitoring Laboratory is outcome of collaboration
with SKF India Ltd.
Being affiliated to Deemed to be University, the institute takes advantage of academic autonomy in making the
curriculum industry oriented and enables students to make employable. In-plant training (45 days), courses such as
Professional Skill Development introduced as integrated part of course structure. The curriculum designed as per the
Choice Based Credit System.

Institute arranges training programmes in the area of personality development, aptitude test, group discussion and
personal interview. Its Employment Enhancement Programme addresses employability. In its long, multi pronged,
persistent and pain staking efforts, the institute has produced 1067 entrepreneurs in last 10 years.

Note:

1. All subjects are compulsory, except for the final year, where the students decide the project and
electives in each semester.

2. Each semester is of 16 weeks duration. There are 8 semesters in the whole course of four years.

3. Each lecture is of 1 hour duration and each practical session is of two hours duration. The medium
of instruction is English.

4) i) Examinations has two parts

a) University Examination (UE) carrying 60 percentage weightage.

b) Internal Assessment (IA) carrying 40 percentage weight age. Student needs to obtain a minimum
grade point of 5.0 (40% marks) in UE and also a minimum grade point of 5.0 (40% marks) in IA.

ii) There are other heads of passing in the subjects besides the head of passing Theory & Test together
i.e. TW & Oral or TW & Practical, which also needs 40% marks to pass in that particular head of
passing.

iii) In order to pass a particular year, the student should pass at least in seven “theory” heads as well as a
total of 7 “TW & Oral and TW & Practical” heads, both simultaneously, failing to which leads to a year
back or failed in year.
iv) Students can be awarded a maximum of 14 grace marks (depending on grade), either to clear the
subject or to obtain a higher class, as per ordinance 0.138 (A) of the Bharati Vidyapeeth University.

The final result will be in terms of letter grade only and is based on CGPA of all courses studied and
passes. The criteria for the award of honours are given below
