ABSTRACT

Peer tutoring has attracted a lot of academic attention in the area of education. As one
of the cornerstones of cooperative learning, it is regarded as a crucial instructional
strategy for inclusive education. This study makes an effort to look into the idea of peer
tutoring and how it affects learning. Students from various age groups or students from
the same age group can use peer tutoring. Through the process, the students gain
organized peer learning. One student serves as the tutor or teacher and the other
student serves as the tutee or learner in a well-structured and fruitful learning
experience. Students get the chance to meaningfully use their knowledge and
experience through peer tutoring. Through reviewing and reorganizing their knowledge,
the tutors in this process reinforce their own learning. On the other side, the tutee or
student receives individualized attention. Both the tutor and the tutee can develop their
self-confidence through peer tutoring. The tutor can do this by seeing how competent
they are at helping others, and the tutee may do this by receiving encouragement from
their peers. Peer tutoring thus has a very favorable effect on the learning process.

CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

The Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) course is an essential program for

aspiring teachers in the Philippines. As with any course, BEED students may find some
subjects challenging and may struggle to keep up with the course requirements. Peer
tutoring is a valuable intervention that provides support to students who are struggling
academically. The rationale for studying the effects of peer tutoring among BEED first
year college students of Sto. Niño College is to evaluate the effectiveness of this
intervention in improving academic performance. Peer tutoring has been shown to have
several benefits, including increased understanding of course content, motivation to
learn, and improved social skills among peers. By evaluating the effectiveness of peer
tutoring, educators can determine whether it is a viable intervention that can improve
the academic performance of struggling students. Additionally, this study could provide
insights into how to design effective peer tutoring programs that can be implemented in
other educational institutions.
INNOVATION, INTERVENTION AND STRATEGY

Innovation, intervention, and strategy are important in the effective implementation of

peer tutoring among BEED first year college students at Sto. Niño College. Here are
some specific ideas for each aspect: Innovation: - Developing online resources and
platforms for peer tutoring - Creating a peer tutoring matching system that considers the
strengths and weaknesses of each student - Utilizing technology such as video
conferencing and screen sharing to facilitate distance tutoring Intervention: - Providing
training and guidance for student tutors on effective teaching techniques and
communication skills - Identifying struggling students early on and pairing them with
more experienced tutors - Encouraging regular check-ins and progress updates
between tutors and tutees Strategy: - Setting attainable goals and objectives for each
tutoring session - Incorporating interactive and engaging activities into the tutoring
process - Providing adequate resources such as textbooks and study materials to
support the tutoring session Overall, the key to successful peer tutoring is creating a
supportive and collaborative learning environment. By utilizing innovation, intervention,
and strategy, BEED first year college students at Sto. Niño College can provide each
other with effective and beneficial academic support.

person, via phone, mail, or online. Surveys can be conducted on a large scale and
are useful for gathering quantitative data.

 Interviews: Interviews involve direct interaction with individuals or groups to gather

information. Interviews can be structured (with predetermined questions) or
unstructured (allowing for open-ended discussions), and can provide qualitative
data.
