The English language is a system of communication, and knowing how this
system works can open many opportunities for the Criminology student to
understand man’s complex mental capacity in relation to how language works.

Yes, I will agree to the relevance of grammar in my course which

criminology. The statement above has a poor composition and
connections of words. The statement also do not use proper usage of
punctuation marks. I do believe that having a concrete knowledge in
applying grammar in a phrase or sentence will give me as a student a
huge help. It may be in written works or verbal presentations, that
knowledge in using grammar promptly helps me out as a student. Also
grammar hath become relevant for me as a criminology student to be
more precise and concise in establishing my words. It also enables me
as a student to have an accurate records of information, it may be in my
daily or school activities.

ANALYSIS
Analyze the given statements. Which do you think is best simplify the
importance or relevance of grammar in terms of making sentences? Support
your answer in 2-3 sentences. Write your answer on the space provided.

1. Having been shot, Norma Lagueno hovered 2. Having been shot in her leg, Norma crawled for
in pain and slowly crawled and dragged her cover.
bleeding left leg as she looked for cover.

For me it is the first sentence, for the whole sentence is a complete

sentence. Also the composition of words in the sentence has connect to
each other. The first sentence is concise and precise that it is much
easier for me to understand.

ABSTRACTION
Grammar is mainly associated with correctness of usage, and knowing
about it widens the awareness of an individual to know the words and group
of words, and to understand how sentences are constructed into meaningful
and precise paragraphs. As McKay (1987) stressed that, the primary purpose
of grammar instruction is to help the students use English correctly and
accurately.
Furthermore, studying grammar is essential for competent users of
language and it is necessary for the students. A criminology student may not
fully be an effective communicator when his knowledge on grammar is
inadequate.
The many reasons why there are miscommunications among units,
departments, or offices in law enforcement agencies is poor grammar and
communication skills. That is why according to Neuleib (1993) grammar
should be taught to everyone, because it has many good uses for everyone.
