4. Illustrate the differences of each type of
family.
Very Good!
1.Nuclear Family
Nuclear families, or traditional families, consist of two
parents (usually married or common law) and their (students will take notes while listening)
children.
2.Single Parent
Single parent families consist of one parent with one or
more kids. In these cases, the parent either never married,
is widowed, or divorced.
3. Extended Family
Typically, extended families live together for social
4. Childless Family
Childless families are families with two parents who
cannot have or don't want kids. In the world of family
types and dynamics, these families are often forgotten or
left out (even though you can still have a family without
children).
5.Stepfamily
A stepfamily is when two separate families merge into one.
This can go several different ways, like two divorced
parents with one or more children blending families, or one
divorced parent with kids marrying someone who has
never been married and has no kids.
6. Grandparent Family
A grandparent family is when one or more grandparent is
raising their grandchild or grandchildren. This situation
happens when the parents aren't around to take care of their
kids or are incapable of properly taking care of their kids.
1. Nuclear Family
Strengths
a. Financially stable, both parents usually work now
b. Children raised in a stable parenting situation
c. Consistency (The students will answer)
d. Emphasis on health and education
e. Focus on communication
Children who have both stability and consistency in their
lives are more likely to exhibit positive behavior, earn
good grades in school and become more involved in
community and extracurricular activities. The nuclear
family may eat dinner together on a regular basis, go to
church, and take family vacations which strengthens
relationships and builds a solid foundation for future life
goals.
(The students read the power point.))
Weaknesses
a. Exclusion of extended family can lead to isolation and
stress
b. Can struggle with conflict resolution
c. Nuclear families can become too child-focused, resulting
in self-centered children and families neglecting other
important things
If there is strength there are also weaknesses (please read)
The choice to raise a family by the nuclear model does not
guarantee success or happiness but can provide a basis for
obtaining those ideals. Awareness of the possible
advantages and disadvantages allows a big-picture view of
this family structure. No family is perfect, but when you
Weaknesses
• Families struggle to get by on one income; some are on
social assistance
• It can be difficult for parents to work full-time and still
afford quality childcare
• Parenting can be inconsistent, especially if kids go back
and forth between parents
This type of family also experiences weakness in financial
aspect. This type of family is very challenging but more
they are successful due to the hard work of their parents
3. Extended Family
Strengths
• Things like respect and care for the elderly are important
• More family around to help with chores, child care, in
case of emergencies, etc.
• Social support
The more the merrier, because of large number of family
living in one house it is easily for them to do their
household. If they have unity they can easily finish their
task.
Weaknesses
• Financial issues can occur if parents are supporting
several other adults and children without any extra income
• Lack of privacy depending on the living environment
It is hard to feed a large family so it is one of
disadvantages of extended family especially if only few
members of family have stable work. Also in terms of
privacy it is very difficult if you are many in one house.
Like for example you want to review your lessons in
school, but you were destructed by your niece and
nephews. Chances are you can’t focus on the lesson.
4. Childless Family
Strengths
• Typically have more disposable income
• No dependents to take care of
• Have more freedom to travel, go on adventures, pursue
different careers or education
• Couples get to spend more time together
Because you are childfree you are free to do what you
want. All you have to worry about is yourself and your
spouse. It is advantage also if both of you are having
stabled work, you can earn more money for your future
5.Stepfamily
Strengths
• Children get the benefit of having two parents around
• Children and their new siblings or step-parents can form
strong bonds
• Benefit of having two incomes compared to single parent
families
Step family can benefit of having two incomes compared
to single parent families. Some of the advantages for
children in a step-family relationship is that it’s beneficial
to have an extra adult to care for them. Another advantage
is the feeling of security again
Weaknesses
• Adjustment can be difficult for parents and children
• Parents can run into problems trying to discipline each
other's kids
• May lacks discipline or be inconsistent
This type of family is difficult for both parents and child
because of the adjustment. Parents can experienced bad
attitude to their step children because they prefer that their
biological parents are still together.
6. Grandparent Family
Strengths
• Grandparents and grandchildren form a close bond
• Keeps children from ending up in foster homes or other
situations
Our grandparents teach us good manners and right
conduct. Because of their care we develop habits like being
polite, industrious and many more. They say it's good to be
raised when grandparents take care of you.
Weaknesses
• Grandparents may not work or have full-time jobs, may
struggle with income
• Depending on their health, it may be difficult for them to
keep up with young children or discipline them as they get
older
Because of the age of our grandparents, they are no longer
strong enough or capable to work to feed their
grandchildren.
If you have a family someday, what kind of family is the (The students will answer)
best for you? and why?
Values Integration:
Remember that whatever type of family we have, we will
always think that someone loves and care for us. And
proper communication is the key to have strong family
relationship.
F. Application
Kindly turn off your camera and proceed to our Group chat
to see your groupings. All you have to do is to illustrate
differences of each type of family. You will have 5
minutes to make your illustration, after 5 minutes go back
to the Google meeting. Choose one of your group mates (The students will do the activity)
that will represent and explain your group work.
V. ASSIGNMENT
For your assignment, study the” Family relationship and
Characteristics of Strong Family Relationship”.
Is there any question? Everything is clear?
Thank you very much!
Good bye Ma’am!
We will meet again next week. Keep safe and Goodbye!
