1.0 INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT

The Closing Ceremony of 5r Campaign for Green Earth is a community programme

that focus on save the earth by doing a campaign of go green where the participant that took
place into joining this programme by posting a short video on how they apply 5r which is
reuse, reduce, rethink, repair and recycle into their daily life or on how they are supporting
to save the earth and go green for the great benefits for the environment. We named our
community programme group which is Palam Go Green that represent our UiTM brunch
which is at UiTM Puncak alam and with the slogan think green, live green that mean if we
think about our environment more on how to implement go green into our daily life, the
earth will live and will be safe from the pollutions.

This program was held for two weeks plus which is on the 4th of January to 11th of
January for the participant to join our contest and send their short video to our telegram
group which we create for the participants and also for us to interact with the participants
and also give updates and information they need to know. The videos that were sent to us,
we posted the short videos into our instagram account that we created which is
@palamgogreen and the top 3 who got the most likes will win the short video contest. The
winners will be announced on the 14th of January which is the closing ceremony of our 5r
campaign. During the closing ceremony we also show the audience the progress of our 5r
campaign from day 1.

The programme was successfully held with six participants who took part in our 5r
challenge and we managed to gather an audience of 60-70 people to join the closing
ceremony. The ceremony was held smoothly and everyone was happy and enjoyed the
ceremony.

2.0 REFLECTION ON THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ISSUE
2.1 REFLECTION ON ISSUE

It's important to learn what the five Rs are to understand their importance. The five
Rs refer to a process used by businesses to make the outcome of their recycling programs
better by reducing the amount of waste the company produces. They include reducing,
reusing, rethinking, repairing, and recycling. In the 5 R's hierarchy, remember to treat
recycling as a last resort after attempting to reduce, reuse, rethink, or repair.

This step is extremely beneficial to the end goal of the process. Reduce refers to the
reduction of harmful, wasteful, and non-recyclable materials so you can save more money,
which also benefits the environment. Reducing dependency on these kinds of products
results in fewer waste materials ending up in landfills and the associated negative
environmental impacts. We recommend always using the minimum amount required to
avoid unnecessary waste. For example, when printing a document, print double-sided to cut
your waste output in half. Other commonly used items businesses can focus on reducing
include single-use plastics, plastic packaging, organic waste, and Styrofoam cups. When
you limit the use of these materials, you are making for a more sustainable future.

The reuse step refers to the diligent reuse of any materials. The problem is that this
feeling of convenience in the moment leads to a constant habit. It is becoming a crisis
because the number of plastic products that are being consumed is to a level that’s becoming
unsustainable. To reduce waste, reuse items throughout the workplace instead of buying
new ones. Begin by focusing on one area of your business at a time, like the break room.
Replace all of the single-use eating utensils, Styrofoam cups, water bottles, and paper plates
with compostable or reusable alternatives. Once you master one area, prioritize reuse for
other products in your facilities like packaging peanuts, printer cartridges, cardboard boxes,
food containers, and rechargeable batteries.

You can rethink the waste you produce by using alternative products and considering
how you can further reduce your environmental footprint. However, it is not enough just to
put recyclables in the bin. You must rethink what you can do to root out unnecessary
wastefulness. For example, bring your bag to the store to avoid receiving a single-use plastic
bag when you shop. You can also look for recycled content in products you make purchases.

5
You can start to practice rethinking at any time particularly when you purchase and discard
items. Minimizing the amount of waste you create can bring about a more sustainable
environment for future generations. Rethink before throwing away an item you think is
broken, worn out, or is no longer wanted.

These days, we find it easier to buy a new product than to repair and use an existing
product. This is especially true of electronic goods like mobile phones and domestic
appliances, which can last a long time if repaired when necessary. Reducing, reusing, and
recycling, decrease both the demands on natural resources, as well as the rate at which they
are consumed. Fewer resources are used and supplies that are limited are conserved. In
addition, less waste is generated, thereby reducing the amount of trash that must be
landfilled or incinerated. As the amount of trash buried or burned decreases, so too does the
potential for water and air pollution which can occur as a result of burning or improper
disposal of waste. Our world has a limited supply of natural resources, including land used
for landfills. All these techniques help us conserve such natural resources.

Lastly, recycle. Once you've gone through all of the other R's, recycling is the most
environmentally friendly waste disposal method. If you absolutely cannot do something else
with your stuff, find a way to recycle it. For instance, buy in bulk to eliminate excess
packaging that needs to be recycled. Recycling is a better option than throwing something
away, but there’s a reason it isn’t listed first. It still takes energy to recycle an item and it
has to be transported to and from the facility that recycles it. Items also have to be reasonably
clean to be recycled, and not only will contaminated items not be recycled, but they can also
prevent the items around them from being recycled. Such as recycling a clean, plastic
container that is no longer able to be used for anything else because it is broken.

2.2 REFLECTION ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT
2.2.1 CHALLENGES
1. Hard to find people to participate in our event
When the event of 5R campaign for green earth begins, our team will need to face
the challenges to find people to join our program. In the first place we only got less than our
expected. We thought that we could get more participants with this program. So, we decided
to ask our family members and friends to contribute with us. We distribute the event to many
people especially our friends and attract their attention with our palamgogreen’s Instagram.
We do a lot of posting to make sure that everyone is clear with our event. We always keep
an update about our program and we do it early before the closing ceremony. Alhamdulillah,
at the end of the day, we finally managed to get as many people to participate in our program.

2. Lack of technology support

The other challenge through this event is the lack of technology support. As we all
know, in this pandemic, the event only can be through the virtual which are from Google
Meet, Webex or Microsoft Teams. We decided to use Google Meet to present our closing
ceremony of the 5R campaign for green earth to announce the winner of the program. During
the rehearsal, the person in charge had difficulty presenting the video, so we had a plan B
quickly. We asked the other members whether they could help to present the video, and
some people volunteered to share their screen and the video can be run and the quality is
clear enough. On the day of the closing ceremony, everything went smoothly without any
lagging with our Google Meet.

3. Difficulty in decision making

As we all start to do our part of work, we must make sure that our project has been
approved by the other team members. If they do not like our work, we have to improve our
own work task to make everyone agree with the work that has been done. We need to find
a time to discuss the project and it will involve other team members. Indeed, we must wait
for others to make a decision and ask for their opinion towards the ongoing project before
proceeding with. Some might have other opinions, some will agree with our work tasks. So
we need to be together to complete this work to achieve the goals of our project. We should
not be selfish when we are trying to finish this project as soon as possible. No one wants the
project to be ruined so we need to always keep in touch with other team members. We need
to cooperate with each other during this palamgogreen’s events.

7
2.2.2 BENEFITS

1. Improve Interpersonal and communication skills

As the event of the 5R campaign for green earth begins, each of our groups need to
communicate with each other as we need to divide the work and ensure the program runs
smoothly. This makes this program able to improve our Interpersonal and communication
skills, especially for members who are introverts. Since we distribute the event to many
people, we need to ensure the information reaches them clearly. This makes us find ways to
use the right communication skills so that we are able to communicate with the participant
in a unique and interesting way even without any miscommunication problems.

2. Develop good teamwork.

The 5R campaign for green earth teaches us how to develop good teamwork. Since
we work as a group, good teamwork is the key to success in carrying out activities as many
different ideas we will be able to come across in different ways. Seeing that we are
connected to each other in order to accomplish our program, open and respectful
communication between each other makes it easier for us to accept views and give views.
Good teamwork can be achieved when our members can communicate effectively and
constructively to solve problems, support one another, encourage participation and accept
others' ideas. So when members are contributing something, ideas and thoughts that we
shared together leads to a friendly and good relationship between good teamwork which
will in turn lead to the launch of a good program.

3. Build commitment in ourselves

The 5R event that has been planned and carried out makes our group members need
to give their full energy in carrying out their respective responsibilities to ensure that the
program runs as planned. The time given by each group member to discuss and so on shows
that the program is able to build commitment in ourselves. Because all members have to be
responsible for their respective parts of the task, the time that has to be sacrificed will give
us many advantages. So, the commitment and cooperation given by our group is very
important as it will facilitate the work of other team members. The sacrifice of time and
energy we put into this program makes this program able to give and build an attitude of
commitment in each member.

3.0 RECOMMENDATION ON BOTH PERSPECTIVES
3.1 RECOMMENDATION ON THE ISSUE

You are familiar with the three Rs and their significance. Less stuff will wind up in the
trash if we reduce the number of things we possess and the quantity of rubbish we produce.
Reusing what we can gives our belongings a new lease of life and keeps them out of the
landfill. Recycling repurposes a wide range of resources, boosting the economy, providing
jobs, and enabling the production of new goods. You may already be familiar with the motto
"reduce, reuse, recycle," but there are a few more Rs which include “rethink, and repair”.
There are few ways that you can apply in everyday life.

1. Fix stuff instead of throwing away

- Things frequently end up in the garbage as they grow worn or quit operating. We can extend
the life of our household products by repairing and maintaining them. Instead of throwing
them to the trash stream, you will have additional options, such as donation or resale. Bring
your products to a repair shop for assistance, or look for repair information on the internet.

2. Review what you can do to the items

- Fixing products makes it much easier to decrease and utilise what you currently have.
Always be on the lookout for new methods to cut costs and waste, and make sure your things
are recycled as much as possible. Do a waste audit or a zero-waste challenge. Are there any
goods you don't need?

3. Compost food waste

- Composting food scraps is one of many ways that you can do. It prevents any food that you
haven't been able to refuse or minimize from ending up in a landfill, where it decomposes
and emits methane (a potent greenhouse gas). Composting food scraps, on the other hand,
transforms them into nutrient-rich soil that you can use in your garden to help your plants
grow.

9
3.2 RECOMMENDATION ON THE PROGRAM

Although the two-week programme ran successfully, an online community programme

is unlikely to be more successful due to the fact that engaging with people is slightly
different than doing it face-to-face. The program's committee recognized that very little
research explicitly specifies what we may do to facilitate development, let alone how to
adjust them to the requirements of the community in order for people to comprehend the
program's key objectives. As a result, there are a few areas of the programme that need to
be improved in order for the community programme to be successful in advocating for
people in the long run.

i. Platform Of Event Held

- People are closer to technology nowadays. There are various social media platforms that are
used for engaging with people. Instead of focusing on only one social media platform, which
is Instagram, The committee can also use all the platforms of social media to advocate and
engage more with society.
- For example, Twitter, Facebook, creating websites, YouTube, and more can be used as the
platforms for the event. Besides, the use of Webex or Zoom meetings is more preferable as
they can hold up to 1000 participants.

ii. Invite Virtual Guest Speakers to Engage and Inspire the Community
- We must be thorough in our planning for virtual guest speakers so that they contribute
effectively to our community programme. With careful planning, we may pick a speaker
and enable an experience that resonates with and satisfies the program's objectives. We may
learn about other experiences and perspectives by inviting virtual guest speakers from our
global community. As a result, it assists the audience in gaining wider and broader views on
the long-term value of the 5R campaign. This broad viewpoint can aid in the development
of better understanding and empathy for our home planet.
- For example, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, the founder and President of EcoKnights, a non-
governmental environmental organization whose founder is also a biologist by profession
and an environmentalist by passion, could be invited. Besides that, we may also invite an
influencer or artist like Maya Karin, who is known as the "Green Queen," who will attract
younger generations to join this program.

10
iii. Time management of the event
- During the Closing Ceremony of 5R Campaign for Green Earth, we discovered that the
event ended sooner than planned. This demonstrates a lack of event time management.
Hence, it is critical for the event moderator to make excellent use of the time allotted. If the
event finishes earlier than intended, a backup plan should be prepared.
- Extra activities, such as Q&A sessions with the audience or exchanging experiences with
the public, can be planned by the committee. This will allow us to become more socially
engaged. Furthermore, in the event of unforeseen setbacks, the committee may also share a
documentary video on the campaign as an extra activity.

iv. Interesting activities

- Organizing an intriguing activity will aid in drawing more people to the event. Instead of
focusing solely on distributing information on social media, the committee may designate
three days of the two-week event to organize a session or collaborate with other
organizations.
- For example, a collaboration with the H&M store to encourage people to recycle their old
garments. Since the collaborators are a well-known brand in the community, this
collaboration will increase public awareness of the event. Furthermore, the committee may
also host a live IG session with any influencers or artists to discuss about 5R campaign.

4.0 CONCLUSION

Based on the reflection of our event "THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF 5R

CAMPAIGN FOR GREEN EARTH", we can conclude that this event provided a variety
of benefits to people of all ages. Our event ran for two weeks, from January 4th to January
11th, 2022, with the closing ceremony on January 14th, 2022. We were first concerned about
the acceptance of people for our event, but thankfully, the participation of people for our
event exceeded our expectations.

Some of the benefits include raising public awareness about the importance of
environmental protection. It also brings connection through community involvement. This
is because, in order to ensure the success of this event, we must reach out to community
experts, volunteers, and local institutions to support bringing the community together to
educate and address environmental issues. As a result, it fosters a positive relationship with
the community, despite the fact that doing so via an online platform is extremely
challenging. In addition, this event encourages participants to express their unique talents
and abilities by creating the most creative short videos in order to win grand prizes.

Further to that, this event also provides many benefits to us, such as encouraging us
to work as a team and form strong bonds with one another, as well as making wonderful
memories together. Additionally, it improves our critical and creative thinking, as well as
our ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently. Handling an event is never easy,
especially when using an online platform as there are countless challenges to overcome in
order to ensure that everything goes as planned. Every challenge teaches us a valuable
lesson, and it was an unforgettable experience that brought a lot of joy and happiness to us.
Finally, we hope that there will be another opportunity for us to organize Earth-related
events and raise awareness about Earth in the future.
