Indefinite Article: A, An

Indefinite Article are always used with singular noun.

Uses of “A & An”

A: Placed before the words starting with the consonant sounds

An: Placed before the words starting with the vowel sounds

 Definite Article: The

Definite article “the” is used with both singular and plural.

Uses of “The”

1) Titles

• The Quaid e Azam was the founder of Pakistan.
• The Sir is taking class.
• The Prime Minister is addressing to the nation.

Note: When the name is used with the title, “The” would be omitted.

• Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the founder of Pakistan.
• Sir Ali is taking class.
• Prime Minister Imran Khan is addressing to the nation.

2) Holy Books

• The holy Quran
• The holy Bible
• The Holy Geeta

3) Magazines, Newspapers, Digests

• The News, The Daily Jung
• The Reader’s digest, The Family Magazine

4) Mosques, Important buildings, Oceans, seas, Mountain ranges, Rivers
