SMARTPHONE

Microsoft was the first player in this market. In 2001 Microsoft announced its Windows CE Pocket PC OS would be offered as "Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone 2002". Microsoft originally defined its Windows. Microsoft launched its Windows Marketplace for Mobile in October 2009. February 2011 Nokia announced a plan to make Microsoft Windows Phone 7 its high end smartphone operating system, reducing MeeGo to a research platform while still keeping Symbian for mid range and low range products. Windows Phone, which was only introduced in October 2010 and has had a lukewarm reception from customers.

Advantages

Smartphone, Tablet, Apps e Mobile Advertising have good possibilities of development. Windows Phone 7 will still be capable of running some firmware applications in the background, however. Windows Phone 7 has partnerships with AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Vodafone, T-Mobile USA, SFR, Telecom Italia, Orange, Deutsch Telecom, Telefonica, and Telstra. Microsoft's Windows Phone offers the best hope of bulding a sustainable platform in the fast-growing market. Microsoft has transfered to other one the problem of the components' forniture.

Disadvantages

"A major knock against Windows Mobile isnt the OS itself, but rather the weakness of the bundled apps included with it". Inability to recognize the new smartphone audience is another one of Microsofts flaws. Operational system older than six months compared to competing platforms as Google Android and Apple IOS. Have not yet a hardware's product. Problems regarding to many software (ex.: inability to autoupdate, Smartphone products as lacking a touchscreen and offering a lower screen resolution compared to sibling ITS Pocket PC devices). With AT&T no longer offering unlimited data streaming for one low price.

ZUNE

Main articles: Zune 30, Zune 4, 8, 16, Zune 80, 120, and Zune HD First generation: November 2006

created by Microsoft in close cooperation with Toshiba.

Second generation: November 2007

touch-sensitive Zune Pad. the software was completely re-written and featured a new user interface.

ZUNE

Third generation: released in September 2008

The only changes were to the firmware, which was made available for all previous models, and the storage capacity. Ability to purchase songs from Zune Marketplace on the device while connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

Fourth generation: released in September 15, 2009

Zune 4.5 was released on April 5, 2010. From Summer 2010 - United Airlines started to offer Zune in-flight audio by means of 21 playlists.

Advantages
IN TIME...

Better song management including support for DRM-free music; Better support for videos meaning the quality and range of videos able to be played on a Zune increased dramatically; Wireless features of the Zune are definitely a unique selling point at this time; Ability to share files and to sync wirelessly is a feature users find very useful; There are a number of lesser features such as range of colors, size of screens that one or another player may have the advantage in at certain points in time.

Customer feedback
This informations was Computerforum.com: An user says: I would not get the Zune, because: 1. It has some software installation issues. 2. Nobody really has it, so the wireless sharing feature is pointless. 3. It is really not that special, it cant be used as an external hard drive as an iPod or other mp3 player. Advantages: it does the same stuff as the iPod, just doesn't look as nice. Oh, and it has FM Radio. taken from a Customer on

Market feedback

In the first quarter of 2007 - in U.S. Market has reached 11,3%. Apple in the same period controls about 70% of the market! In May 2008, it gets about 4% of the U.S. market. Apple and others in the MP3 player market will react to this. The fact is that this market is finally becoming more competitive, and that is can only be good for the consumer.

At the end ZUNE does not work

Sales percentages are lower than those of other competitors and no chance to challenge iPod.

Why?

Microsoft anticipated the innovation, launching Zune flash while the hard disk version was still having a positive customers' feedback; The smart idea of connecting Zune's devices through wireless has the side effect of functioning only with others Zune's owners.

Looking to the future

Zune marketing director Jason Reindorp: We are getting grass roots, to help finance their tours, getting them airplay and exposure on the Zune Market Place. It is a good opportunity for us to break new artists. Our goal is to act like a label, for example we are focused on discovering new artists and helping them to get a foot hold and take advantage of the digital world. The benefits for us are abstract he added. We are trying to build our brand. For the first part of our launch we are focused on the music industry. We believe in what we are doing and we want our label partners to see we really mean it. This is putting our money where our mouth is.

TABLETS
"We won't do anything in the tablet market unless we can be distinctive".
