Analysis: Configure electrical settings

You will learn how to specify electrical

settings in a project.

Learning objectives:
• Adjust electrical settings.
• Create circuit naming schemes.
The completed exercise

1. Open the exercise file:

L4_03_ElectricalSettings.rvt. This
exercise file has the following file linked:
ARCH_LINK.rvt.

2. To open the Electrical Settings dialog, on

the Systems ribbon, in the Electrical
panel, click the dialog box launcher.

3. In the Electrical Settings dialog, in the

Hidden Line settings, specify the values
to control how hidden lines appear in
views.

4. In the General settings, there are several

settings that control various symbols and
labels. There are also settings to control
the Circuit Sequence, default Circuit
Rating for new circuits, and the Circuit
Path Offset.

5. In the Angles settings, the angles used
for conduit and cable trays can be
controlled. Use any angle uses any angle
supported by the fitting families. Set an
angle increment allows a precise angle
value to be specified. And Use specific
angles allows users to choose from a pre-
defined list of angles.

6. The Wiring settings control how wires are

sized and how they appear in views. Pay
attention to the Max Voltage Drop
parameters. These affect the wire sizing
tool.

7. In the Wire Sizes settings, users can

create materials, temperatures, and
insulation types. Then for each
combination, the Ampacity, Size, and
Diameter can be specified. When Used by
Sizing is selected, then that size can be
used by the wire sizing tool.

8. In the Correction Factor settings, a

Correction Factor can be specified for
each Temperature for the selected
Material and Temperature.

9. In the Ground Conductors settings, a

Conductor Size can be specified for each
Ampacity for the selected Material.

10. The Wiring Types control the wire types
that are available when creating wiring.
The previously specified values can be
selected for the Material, Temperature
Rating, and Insulation.

11. In the Voltage Definitions settings, the

Minimum and Maximum voltages can be
specified for the project voltages.

12. In the Distribution Systems settings,

distribution systems can be defined by
specifying the Phase, Configuration,
Wires, L-L Voltage, and L-G Voltage.

13. The Cable Tray Settings and Conduit

Settings control the annotation scale of
fittings as well as symbols for
separators.

14. The Rise Drop setting for cable tray and

conduit controls the Rise/Drop
Annotation Size.

15. The Single Line Symbology settings
control the Rise Symbol and Drop
Symbol for cable tray and conduit.

16. The Two Line Symbology settings

control the Rise Symbol and Drop
Symbol for cable tray and conduit.

17. The Size settings control which sizes are

available in the size drop-downs when
creating cable tray or conduit.

18. In the Load Calculations settings, the

Apparent load calculation method can be
specified. The load classification types
and demand factors can also be
accessed from here.

19. The Panel Schedules settings control the

Spare Label and Space Label in panel
schedules. There are also settings to
control whether spares are included in
panel totals and whether multi-poled
circuits should be merged into a single
cell.

20. Lastly, custom circuit naming schemes
can be created in the Circuit Naming
settings.
