SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING ON AWARENESS OF INDIA’S FESTIVAL

OF GIVING “DAAN UTSAV”

Daan Utsav, previously known as the Joy of Giving Week, is a prominent philanthropic celebration in
India, often referred to as the "festival of giving." Since its inception in 2009, this annual festival has
been observed from October 2 to 8, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. During this week, individuals
from diverse backgrounds, ranging from auto rickshaw drivers to CEOs, school children to celebrities,
homemakers to opinion leaders, and media personnel, unite to contribute their time, money,
resources, or skills towards uplifting society. They actively engage by either organizing or
participating in events of their preference.

The concept of a giving event encompasses a broad spectrum, encompassing both modest gestures
and grand endeavours. For instance, a simple act of kindness could involve a family taking their
maid's children out for an ice cream party, while a more elaborate initiative known as 'Gift
Compassion' involves over 10,000 schoolchildren from various socio-economic backgrounds across
India, crafting and exchanging gifts with their peers.

The impact of Daan Utsav is remarkable, with millions of people actively joining the movement each
year. In 2016 alone, more than 1,500 events were organized across 200 cities nationwide, resulting
in the mobilization of substantial monetary and material donations, valued in crores, as well as the
contribution of countless volunteer hours.

Daan Utsav serves as a powerful platform that unites individuals from all walks of life under the
common purpose of giving back to society. By fostering a spirit of generosity and compassion, this
festival not only addresses social issues but also fosters a sense of unity and empathy among
communities. The widespread participation signifies the collective desire of the Indian population to
create a positive impact and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

This celebration stands as a testament to the potential of individuals coming together, transcending
societal barriers, and actively contributing towards a more equitable and compassionate society.
Daan Utsav continues to inspire and ignite the giving spirit, fostering a culture of philanthropy that
has the power to transform lives and create a brighter future for all.
