OFFICIAL INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS FOR FOOTBALL TAKRAW
“ DOUBLE REGION”

1. FIELD
1.1 The takraw fields measure 13.4 m x 6.1 m, or 44 feet x 20 feet, the upward field is free
from obstructions up to 8 m high, or 26.25 feet from the floor, and 3 m or 10 feet from
the ground. the edge of the court must also be free of obstructions
1.2 Sidelines and backlines – the width of the sidelines (on both sides of the court) and
backlines (at both ends of the court) that demarcate the court cannot be more than 0.04
m or 1.5 inches, drawn and measured inward from the line the outermost edge of the
field size
1.3 Center line – a 0.02 m or ¾ inch wide center line must be drawn across the center of
the court from both sides, dividing the court into 2 equal halves.
1.4 Quarter circle – on the front corner of each half of the court, on the center line is drawn
a quarter circle 0.3 m or 1 foot wide, from the edge line past the center line, with a
radius of 0.9 m or 3 feet, measured and drawn from the outside of the fingers.
1.5 Service circle – a service circle with a radius of 0.3 m or 1 foot is drawn on both sides
of the court, the center point of the circle is 2.45 m or 8 feet from the back line and
3.05 m or 10 ft from the touchline. A line width of 0.04 m or 1.5 ft is measured and
drawn outward from the outside of the radius.

2. NET POLE
2.1 The net posts must be 1.56 m or 5 feet 1 inch (1.45 m or 4 feet 9 inches for women)
from the floor and must be strong enough to withstand the strain of the net. The
material from which it is made must be strong enough and have a radius of not more
than 0.04 m or 1.5 inches
2.2 Placement of Net Poles – Net Poles are erected 0.3 m or 1 ft outside the boundary line
and in line with the center line

3. NET
3.1 NET made of rope or nylon with good quality with a grid of 0.06 m to 0.08 m or 2.5 –
3 inches
3.2 Net width shall be 0.7 m or 2 feet 4 inches (top to bottom) and not less than 6.1 m or
20 feet (side to side) in length
3.3 The net shall be hemmed along both sides of the edges from top to bottom with 0.05
m or 2 inch wide tape, and this is called Boundary Tape.
3.4 Both sides of the Net, top and bottom must also be hemmed 0.05 m or 2 inches wide,
and good quality rope or nylon must be threaded along the tape and tied to the posts.

3.5 The top center of the Net for men is 1.52 m or 5 feet (1.42 or 4 ft 8 in for women) from
the floor, and at the edges is 1.55 m or 5 ft 1 inch for men (1.45 m or 4 feet 9 inches
for daughter)

4. TAKRAW FOOTBALL

4.1 The takraw ball must be round, made of a single ply of woven and synthetic or other
ISTAF-approved materials, and have 12 holes and 20 intersections.
4.2 For men, the circumference of the ball must not be less than 41 cm or 16.14 inches,
and not more than 43 cm or 16.93 inches. For girls the circumference of the ball cannot
be less than 42 cm or 16.54 inches and not more than 44 cm or 17.32 inches
4.3 For men, the ball must not weigh less than 17g or 6oz, and not more than 180g or
6.35oz. For women the weight of the ball cannot be less than 150g or 5.3 oz, and not
more than 160g or 5.6 oz.
4.4 The ball may be of one color, multi-colored or brightly colored but may not use a color
that interferes with a player's performance.
4.5 All world, international or regional level sepak takraw matches held under ISTAF
permission, including but not limited to the Olympics, World Championships,
Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and SEA Games, must use balls that have been
approved by ISTAF – with an honest approval process , non-ambiguous and
transparent.

5. PLAYER
5.1 A match is played by two “REGU” consisting of 3 players each
5.2 One of the three players is near the back of the field, and is called "Tekong" (server)
5.3 Two other players are in front, near the net , one player to the left of Tekong, and
another to the right. The player on the left is called "Apit Kiri" and the one on the right
is "Apit Kanan".

5.4 Squad Match


5.4.1 Each "Team" consists of a minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 5 players
(i.e. 1 "team" consisting of 3 core players plus 2 "reserves" who can be used as
substitutes if needed) all of these players must have been registered before the
Team match
5.4.2 When the team “match” starts each “Team” must have at least 3 registered
players already on the court.
5.4.3 "Teams" that have less than 3 players are not allowed to take part in the "match"
and are considered to have lost 3 straight "sets", with a score of 0-21

5.5 Team Match


5.5.1 Each “Team” must have 9 players (3 squads consisting of 3 players each) and
a maximum of 15 players, with 3 reserve players per team. But only 12 players
may be registered before a Team match ( in other words, coaches must decide
which player is most ready to play)
5.5.2 Before a Team match starts, each “Team” must have 9 registered players
already on the court
5.5.3 "Teams" that have less than 9 players are not allowed to take part in "matches"
and each match is declared to have lost in straight sets, with a score of 0-21

6. PLAYER CLOTHES
6.1 All equipment worn by players is suitable for Sepak Takraw. Player safety and fairness
are his priority. Any equipment that increases or reduces the speed of the ball or

increases the height of the player so as to give an unfair advantage and/or endanger the
safety of the player is not allowed
6.2 To avoid conflict and confusion, the two "Teams" or "Teams" competing must wear
uniforms of different colors
6.3 Teams/teams must have at least two sets of uniforms/shirts, one light-colored and one
dark-colored. If two competing teams/teams wear uniforms of the same color, the
home team/team must change uniforms. If played on a Neutral Ground, the first named
team/team must change uniforms
6.4 The clothes that players must wear when competing are uniforms/shirts, shorts, socks,
and shoes with rubber soles without heels. Everything a player wears is considered a
part of his body, so to avoid a “ Net Fault ” , if the shirt is too wide or loose, and does
not fit snugly against the body. it is advisable to tuck it into the pants. In cold weather
conditions, players are allowed to wear sports trousers. Additional equipment could
include a headband or bandana and ankle, knee and/or wrist guards
6.5 players ' uniforms/shirts must be numbered, each player must have one fixed number
during the game. The numbers that can be used are 1 to 36 . The height of the number
size cannot be less than 19 cm or 7.5 inches. The chest number can also be attached to
a height of up to 10 cm or 4 inches. This chest number is not mandatory .
6.6 The captain of each team must wear a captain's armband on his left arm with a different
color than the uniform he wears
6.7 Other equipment that is not specifically mentioned in this rule, may be worn after
obtaining permission from the ISTAF Technical Commission

7. PLAYER SWITCHING
7.1 In “Team Matches” a player may not play for more than one team
7.2 Substitution of players may be made at any time by the Team Manager or Coach to
the Official Referee when the ball is dead
7.3 Each "Team" may register a maximum of 2 reserve players, by making 2 substitutions
in one match (Set)
7.4 Each "Team" is allowed to make substitutions for injured players as long as no
previous substitutions have been made. If a substitution has been made, the Team may
not continue the match and is deemed to have lost, with the score they receive being
the final score, while the opponent automatically scores 21 (for the first 2 sets) or 21
(for the decider) or whatever score is considered a win whether the match seeks to
score “ 21 or 25 ”
7.5 If a "Team" has made a substitution and one of its players gets a "red card" from the
referee the "Team" is allowed to continue the game by entering the next reserve player
. provided there is no sebum replacement yet.

8. DRAW / TOS AND WARM UP


8.1 Before starting the match, the Court Reffree or the field umpire will make a tos /tos in
front of the teams' heads , and the winner has the right to choose "Ball" or "Place". The
losing team must accept this choice.
8.2 The team holding the "serve" has the right to "warm up" first for 2 minutes followed
by the opposing team. Only 5 players are allowed to warm up on the court

9. PLAYER POSITION DURING SERVICE


9.1 When the game is about to start, all players from both teams are in a ready position in
their respective places
9.2 “ Tekong” stands with one of his feet in the service circle
9.3 Both "Apit" players from the serving team must stand in a quarter circle
9.4 The opposing player or the team receiving the service may stand anywhere on the court

10. EARLY PLAY AND SERVICE


10.1 The first team to serve (according to the results of the Tos ) will start the first set.
and each team has the opportunity to serve three (3) times in a row when moving
places and while the winning team is to serve, the ball remains in its starting
position.

10.2 The throw of the ball from the "Apit" player to "Tekong" must be done immediately
after the Referee mentions the score. If the Apit player throws the ball to Tekong
before the referee mentions the score, the service must be repeated and the team
will receive a warning. If this error is repeated, the team is deemed to have
committed an “error”
10.3 After the ball is kicked by Tekong, players may move freely within the field
10.4 Service is considered valid if the ball crosses the net, whether the ball touches or
does not touch the net and falls within the boundaries of the side of the net and the
boundary side of the opponent's area, even as long as the outer side of the ball falls
over the barrier or side of the boundary, the ball is considered entered.
10.5 In a Team Match using Knockout System, if a winner has been won in two matches
the losing team is not required to play a third match.
10.6 In Team matches using a Competition or Half Competition System, if a winner has
been won in two matches, the losing team must play a third match by their third
Team. The team that does not play the third team is deemed to have lost in straight
sets, each with a score of 0-25

11. ERROR
11.1The Serving Team While Serving
11.1.1 Apit players who give service throws, play the ball (throwing it up, bouncing
it, throwing it to other Apit players, etc.) after the referee mentions the score
11.1.2 The feet of the Apit players cross or step on the line or touch/over the net when
feeding the ball to Tekong for service
11.1.3 The supporting leg of the tekong is lifted off the floor or steps on the service
circle line before the foot that kicks the ball hits the ball during service
11.1.4 Tekong does not kick the ball when the ball is thrown
11.1.5 The ball touches a tekong teammate before crossing the net .
11.1.6 The ball crosses the net but falls outside the playing area
11.1.7 The ball does not cross the net to the opponent's side
11.1.8 Tekong uses his hands or arms to support his kick, even though the hands or
arms do not touch the ball, but touch other objects or the floor surface when the
ball is kicked
11.1.9 For the second time in the same match, Apit's players threw the ball to Tekong
before the Referee announced the score
11.2The Team Holding the Service and Receiving the Service When the Service Is Made
11.2.1 Perform disruptive or noisy acts or shout at opponents
11.3For Both Teams During the Game
11.3.1 Stepping on the Center Line (below the Net, which divides the two halves of
the court), except when making follow-up moves after a spike or block
11.3.2 A player touches the ball or touches an opposing player in the area across the
net
11.3.3 A player's body parts pass through the net to the opponent's area, above or
below the net, except when making further movements after kicking the ball
from his own area.
11.3.4 Touches the ball more than three times on either side
11.3.5 Ball hits hand or arm (except when throwing for service)
11.3.6 ball stops or is stuck in the player's body
11.3.7 Player body parts or equipment, such as shoes, jerseys, bodies, etc. touch the
net post , referee chair, or any object outside the field, or the player falls on the
side of the opponent's area
11.3.8 The ball touches the floor, wall, ceiling or other object out of bounds while in
play
11.3.9 Players use the help of objects outside the field to make it easier to kick
11.3.10 The ball fails to cross the net goes to the opponent's side after 3 touches
11.3.11 The ball crosses the net after three touches but falls outside the opponent's area
of play
11.3.12 Players deliberately delay play

12. NUMBERS COUNTING SYSTEM
12.1 When the serving team or the receiving team commits a violation, the opponent gets
an additional point and continues to serve
12.2 The winning number for each set is 21 unless the numbers are the same 20-20 , then
the set is determined by a difference of 2 points, up to 25 points . When the score is
level at 20-20 , the referee will declare the match "settled up to 25 points "
12.3 One match consists of 3 sets for team and 5 sets for team/double, with 2 minutes
rest between sets
12.4 If each team / double match is contested 5 sets with a 2 minute break who gets the
same 1 or 2 wins from the first 3 or 5 sets, then the match continues with the third
or fifth set which is called the "Determination Set" with a winning number of 21 ,
except if the position is 20 - 20 , the match will be decided by a difference of two
points with points a maximum of 25 7. When the position is equal a 20 - 2 , 0 the
referee will declare the match “Completed to 25 points ”
12.5 In the deciding set, the fifth set or the third set, the teams immediately move places,
there is no longer a draw , and in the fifth set, the two teams change places when
one of them first reaches the number 8.

13. TIME-OUT
13.1Time-out for 1 minute per set and is done when the ball is dead . During the time-out,
all players must be off the field, outside the back line. Only 5 people may be outside
the back line during the time-out
13.2The five people who are allowed outside the back line consist of 3 players competing
and 2 other people, such as managers and coaches, who wear different clothes from
the players

14. GAME STOPPING


14.1 Referees may temporarily suspend play in case of interference or injured players
who need immediate assistance, for no more than 5 minutes per team.
14.2 Injured players are given up to 5 minutes to “Injury Time-out”. If after 5 minutes
an injured player is unable to continue play, he must be substituted. If the team has
made substitutions before. The team is declared lost with the last number they get
as the final score, while the opposing team will get a winning number of 21 (for the
first 3 sets) and 21 (for the deciding set), or whatever winning number is needed if
the match tries to reach a point " 21 or 25 "
14.3 If there is interference or other matters, only Official Reffree may stop the game
with the approval of the Match Committee
14.4 When play is stopped, no player may leave the pitch for a drink or to be briefed

15. DISCIPLINE
15.1Every Player, Team, Team and coaching staff must comply with the rules of the
competition
15.2Only the Team Principal may approach the referee during the game, when the ball is
dead, to ask questions relating to the position of a player or players in the team, or to
ask for an explanation of the referee's decision , and the referee must explain it.
15.3However, coaches, team managers, players, and/or team Officials may not dispute the
referee's decisions in a match or do things that could disrupt the course of the match,
because these actions can be considered as serious Disciplinary Violations.

16. PUNISHMENT
Violations and misconduct will be punished as follows:
16.1Warning – Players get a “Yellow Card” or a “Warning” for committing any of the
following 6 offences
16.1.1 Being guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct, showing such conduct could seriously
be considered a minor or serious breach of sporting ethics norms and could have

or could have a detrimental effect on proper conduct during the match as a
whole
16.1.2 Opposing the referee's decision in words or actions
16.1.3 Constantly breaking the “Rules of the Game”
16.1.4 Procrastinate game
16.1.5 Entering or re-entering the pitch without the referee's permission (except during
regular play)
16.1.6 Leaving the pitch without the referee's permission (except during normal play)
16.2Expulsion – Player will get “Red Card” and “Send off” (immediately asked to leave
the game) for committing any of the following offences
16.2.1 Guilty of committing a capital offence
16.2.2 Guilty of committing acts of violence, including acts done intentionally to
injure an opponent
16.2.3 Spit on opponents or other people
16.2.4 Using words and/or gestures that are offensive or insulting and or harassing
16.2.5 Received second warning (Yellow Card) in one match
16.3 A player who commits a “With a Warning” Violation on or off the field,
whether the offense was committed at an opponent, a teammate, the referee,
the assistant referee or any other person, and is given a “Yellow Card” for each
offense is governed as follows
16.3.1 First Yellow Card
Sanction: Ordinary Warning
16.3.2 Fouls: the same player gets a second yellow card in two different games but in
the same championship
Sanctions: Penalties are prohibited from following one match
16.3.3 Foul: The same player received a third yellow card after serving a suspension
for 2 yellow cards, in the same tournament
Penalty: Two-match ban, plus a $100 fine to be paid by the club or anyone
representing the player in the championship
16.3.4 Foul: the same player gets a fourth yellow card after serving a penalty of being
suspended for 2 matches for previously getting 3 yellow cards, in the same
tournament.
Sanctions: Immediately banned from participating in the next two matches and
other matches in the tournament series, the sanction is imposed by the Sepak
Takraw supervisory body until the Disciplinary Committee convenes to make
a final decision on the matter.
16.3.5 Foul: The same player gets two yellow cards in the same match
16.3.6 Penalty: Two game ban, plus a $100 fine to be paid by the club or anyone
representing the player in the championship. A red card will be awarded for a
third breach of discipline in another match in the same championship.
16.4for each violation is set as follows:
16.4.1 Foul: Red Card
Sanction : removed from the match and immediately prohibited from
participating in the next match and other matches in the tournament series, this
sanction is imposed by the Sepak Takraw supervisor until the Disciplinary
Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter.

17. BAD ACTION FROM THE OFFICIAL TEAM


17.1Disciplinary action will be given to the Official Team or Team/Team who commits
disgraceful or disruptive actions in a championship which is carried out on or off the
field
17.2All Official Teams who commit disgraceful or disruptive actions will be immediately
expelled from the field by the match Official and Offcial Reffree , and prohibited from
accompanying the match as an Official Team by the Sepak Takraw supervisor until
the Disciplinary Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter

18. ETC

18.1If there are questions or other matters from the points above, which are not stated in
the match rules, the decisions of the Official Reffree are absolute

“ DOUBLE EVENTS ”

1. FIELD

2. NET POLE
2.1 The net posts must be 1.55 m or 5 ft 1 in (1.45 m or 4 ft 9 in for women) from the
floor and must be strong enough to withstand the strain on the net . The material from
which it is made must be strong enough and have a radius of not more than 0.04 m
or 1.5 inches
2.2 Placement of Net Posts – Net posts are set 0.3 m or 1 ft outside the boundary line and
in line with the center line

3. NET
3.1 Net made of rope or nylon of good quality with a grid of 0.06 m to 0.08 m or 2.5 – 3
inches
3.2 the width of the net shall be 0.7 m or 2 feet 4 inches (top to bottom) and not less than
6.1 m or 20 feet (side to side) in length
3.3 net must be hemmed along both sides from the top to the bottom with 0.05 m or 2
inch wide tape, and this is called Boundary Tape.
3.4 Both sides of the net , top and bottom must also be hemmed 0.05 m or 2 inches wide,
and good quality rope or nylon must be threaded along the tape and tied to the posts.
3.5 The top center of the net for men is 1.52 m or 5 feet (1.42 or 4 feet 8 inches for
women) from the floor, and at the edges is 1.55 m or 5 feet 1 inch for men (1.45 m
or 4 feet 9 inches for daughter)

4. TAKRAW FOOTBALL

5. PLAYER
5.1 A match is played by two "REGU", each consisting of 2 core players and 1 reserve
player
5.2 One of the two players stands at the back of the court, placing himself on the line for
the serve kick and he is called the “Tekong” (server). This player is also in charge of
throwing the ball for himself, throwing the ball up for a service kick, from any
position along and behind the back line.
5.3 Players who do not serve are called " Tekong Substitutes " , and players from the
team receiving the serve, can position themselves anywhere on the court when the
serve is made
5.4 Doubles “Team” Match
5.4.1 Each "team" consists of a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 3 players
(i.e. 1 "team" consisting of 2 core players plus 1 "reserve player" that can be
used in matches) all of these players must have been registered with the
committee before the match
5.4.2 Before a Team match starts each “Team” must have at least 2 players on the
court.
5.4.3 "Teams" that have less than 2 players are not allowed to "play" and are
considered to have lost 3 straight "sets", with a score of 0-21

6. PLAYER CLOTHES

In cold weather conditions, players are allowed to wear sports trousers. Additional
equipment could include a headband or bandana and ankle, knee and/or wrist guards

6.7 Other equipment that is not specifically mentioned in this rule, may be worn after
obtaining permission from the ISTAF Technical Commission

8. PLAYER SWITCHING

the Official Referee when the ball is dead
8.2 Each "Team" may register a maximum of one reserve player, and may make 2
substitutions in each set
8.3 Each "Team" is allowed to make substitutions for injured players as long as no
previous substitutions have been made. If a substitution has been made, the Team
may not continue the match and is deemed lost, with the score they receive as the
final score, while the opponent automatically scores 15 (for the initial 3 sets) or 17
(for the deciding set) or whatever score is considered wins whether the match tries to
reach “ 21 or 25 ”
8.4 If a "Squad" has made a change of players and one of its players receives a "red card"
from the referee of the "Squad" it is not allowed to continue the game , the squad is
considered to have lost .

9. DRAW / TOS AND WARM -UP


9.1 Before starting the match, the field referee will vote in front of the captains of the
two teams, and the winner has the right to choose "Ball" or "Place". The losing team
must accept the choice.
18.2 The team that wins the toss has the right to "warm up" first for 2 minutes followed
by the opposing team. Only 3 players and 2 Officials/Coaches are allowed to warm
up on the field will . and each team has the opportunity to serve three (3) times in a
row when moving places and while the winning team is to serve, the ball remains
in its starting position.

10. PLAYER POSITION DURING SERVICE


10.1When the game is about to start, all players from both teams are in a ready position
in their respective places
10.2The "Tekong" (or server) of the serving team positions itself at the back line, and at
the same time throws the ball itself. Throws the ball up for a serve from any position
along and behind the back line.
10.3Players who do not serve can place themselves anywhere on the court, but stay where
they are when the serve is made

11. EARLY PLAY AND SERVICE


11.1 The first team to serve (according to the result of the draw ) will start the first set.
The team that wins the first set will serve in the second set.
11.2 Throw the ball by "Tekong" must be done immediately after the referee calls the
score. If the ball is thrown before the referee has declared the score, the serve must
be repeated and the team that made the serve gets a warning. If this error is repeated,
the team is declared to have committed a “Fault”
11.3 After the ball is kicked by Tekong, players may move anywhere on the field
11.4 Service is considered valid if the ball crosses the net , whether the ball touches or
does not touch the net and falls within the boundaries of the net side and the

boundary side of the opponent's area, even as long as the outer side of the ball falls
over the barrier or the boundary side, the ball is considered entered.
11.5 The two players from the serving team alternately become Tekong each time they
get a point until they make a mistake and the serving team gets a point .

12. ERROR
12.1The Serving Team While Serving
12.1.1 Tekong who will throw the ball himself to serve, plays the ball (throwing up,

13. NUMBERS COUNTING SYSTEM


13.1 When the team serving or the team receiving the serve commits a violation, the
opponent gets an additional point and serves, if the previous "Player One" becomes
tekong "Player Two" serves the next. With 3 consecutive serves after that move
service to the opponent
13.2 The winning number for each set is 15 , unless the numbers are the same 14 - 14 ,
then the set is determined by a difference of 2 points, up to 17 points . When the
score is equal 14 - 14 , the referee will declare the match "finished up to 17 points"
13.3 One match consists of 5 sets or 3 wins with a break between sets of 2 minutes

13.4 If each team gets 2 wins from the initial 5 sets, the match will continue with the
fifth set which is called the "Decision Set" with a win number of 15, unless the score
is 14-14, the match will be decided by a difference of two points with a maximum
point of 17. When the score is 14 -14, the referee will declare the match “Completed
to 17 points”
13.5 In the deciding set / set, the two teams change places when one of the teams reaches
the number 8

14. TIME-OUT
14.1Time-out for 1 minute per set when the ball is dead . all players must be off the field,
outside the back line. Only 5 people may be outside the back line during the time-out
14.2The four people who are allowed outside the back line consist of 2 players competing
and 2 other people, such as managers and coaches, who wear different clothes from
the players

15. GAME STOPPING


15.1 Referees may temporarily suspend play in case of interference or injured players
who need immediate assistance, for no more than 5 minutes per team.
15.2 Injured players are given up to 5 minutes to “Injury Time-out”. If after 5 minutes
an injured player is unable to continue play, he must be substituted. If the team has
made substitutions before. The team is declared lost with the last number they get
as the final score, while the opposing team will get a winning number of 21 (for the
first 5 sets) and 25 (for the deciding set), or whatever winning number is needed if
the match tries to reach " 21 ". or 25 digits”
15.3 If there is interference or other matters, only the Official Referee may stop the game
with the approval of the Match Committee
15.4 When play is stopped, no player may leave the pitch for a drink or to be briefed

16. DISCIPLINE
16.1 Every Player, Team, Team and coaching staff must comply with the rules of the
competition
16.2 Only the Team Principal may approach the referee during the game, at dead ball, to
ask questions relating to the position of a player or players in the team, or to ask for
an explanation of the referee's decision, and the referee must explain it.
16.3 However, coaches, team managers, players, and/or team Officials may not dispute
the referee's decisions in a match or do things that could disrupt the course of the
match, because these actions can be considered as serious Disciplinary Violations.

17. PUNISHMENT
Violations and misconduct will be punished as follows:
17.1Warning – Players get a “Yellow Card” or a “Warning” for committing any of the
following 6 offences
17.1.1 Being guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct, showing such conduct could seriously
be considered a minor or serious breach of sporting ethics norms and could have
or would have a detrimental effect on proper conduct during the match as a
whole
17.1.2 Opposing the referee's decision in words or actions
17.1.3 Constantly breaking the “Rules of the Game”
17.1.4 Procrastinate game
17.1.5 Entering or re-entering the pitch without the referee's permission (except during
regular play)
17.1.6 Leaving the pitch without the referee's permission (except during normal play)

17.1.7 Expulsion – Player will get “Red Card” and “Send off” (immediately asked to
leave the game) for committing any of the following offences
17.1.8 Guilty of committing a capital offence

17.1.9 Guilty of committing acts of violence, including acts done intentionally to
injure an opponent
17.1.10Spit on opponents or other people
17.1.11Using words and/or gestures that are offensive or insulting and or harassing
17.1.12Received second warning (Yellow Card) in one match
17.2. A player who commits a “With a Warning” Violation on or off the field, whether
the offense was committed at an opponent, a teammate, the referee, the assistant
referee or any other person, and is given a “Yellow Card” for each offense is
governed as follows
17.2.1 First Yellow Card
Sanction: Ordinary Warning
17.2.2 Foul: The same player gets a second yellow card in two different games but in
the same championship
Sanctions: Penalties are prohibited from following one match
17.2.3 Foul: The same player received a third yellow card after serving a suspension
for 2 yellow cards, in the same tournament
Penalty: Two-match ban, plus a $100 fine to be paid by the club or anyone
representing the player in the championship
17.2.4 Foul: the same player gets a fourth yellow card after serving a penalty of being
suspended for 2 matches for previously getting 3 yellow cards, in the same
tournament.
Sanctions: Immediately banned from participating in the next two matches and
other matches in the tournament series, the sanction is imposed by the Sepak
Takraw supervisory body until the Disciplinary Committee convenes to make
a final decision on the matter.
17.2.5 Foul : The same player gets two yellow cards in the same game
Penalty: Two game ban, plus a $100 fine to be paid by the club or anyone
representing the player in the championship. A red card will be awarded for a
third breach of discipline in another match in the same championship.
17.3Players who commit fouls and are “sent off” when committing fouls on or off the
field whether the offense was committed against an opponent, teammate, referee or
other person and are given a “yellow card” for each violation are regulated as follows:
17.3.1 Foul: Red Card
Sanction : removed from the match and immediately prohibited from
participating in the next match and other matches in the tournament series, this
sanction is imposed by the Sepak Takraw supervisor until the Disciplinary
Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter.

18. BAD ACTION FROM THE OFFICIAL TEAM


18.1Disciplinary action will be given to Team or Team/Team Officials who commit
disgraceful or disruptive actions in a championship which are carried out on or off
the field
18.2All Team Officials who commit disgraceful or disruptive actions will be immediately
expelled from the field by the match Official and the Official Referee, and prohibited
from accompanying the match as an Official Team by the Sepak Takraw supervisor
until the Disciplinary Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter

1. FIELD
1.1 The takraw field measures 13.4 m x 6.1 m, or 44 ft x 20 ft, (divided into 2 equal parts;

the floor, and 3 m, or 10 ft from the edge of the court must also be clear of obstructions

2.1 The net posts must be 1.55 m or 5 ft 1 in (1.45 m or 4 ft 9 in for women) from the floor
and must be strong enough to withstand the strain of the net. The material from which
it is made must be strong enough and have a radius of not more than 0.04 m or 1.5
inches

2.2 Placement of NET Poles – NET Poles are erected 0.3 m or 1 ft outside the boundary
line and in line with the center line

3.1 NET made of rope or nylon with good quality with a grid of 0.06 m to 0.08 m or 2.5 –
3 inches
3.2 the width of the NET is 0.7 m or 2 feet 4 inches (top to bottom) and the length is not
less than 6.1 m or 20 feet (side to side)
3.3 NET must be hemmed along both sides of the edge from top to bottom with 0.05 m or
2 inch wide tape, and this is called Boundary Plaster.
3.4 On both sides of the NET, the top and bottom must also be seamed 0.05 m or 2 inches
wide, and good quality rope or nylon must be threaded along the tape and tied to the
posts.
3.5 Top center height of the NET for men is 1.52 m or 5 feet (1.42 or 4 feet 8 inches for
women) from the floor, and at the edges is 1.55 m or 5 feet 1 inch for men (1.45 m or
4 feet 9 inches for daughter)

4. TAKRAW FOOTBALL

4.1 The takraw ball must be round, made of a single ply of woven and synthetic or other
ISTAF-approved materials, and have 12 holes and 20 intersections.
4.2 For men, the circumference of the ball must not be less than 41 cm or 16.14 inches,
and not more than 43 cm or 16.93 inches. For girls the circumference of the ball cannot
be less than 42 cm or 16.54 inches and not more than 44 cm or 17.32 inches
4.3 For men, the ball must not weigh less than 17g or 6oz, and not more than 180g or
6.35oz. For women the weight of the ball cannot be less than 150g or 5.3 oz, and not
more than 160g or 5.6 oz.
4.4 The ball may be of one color, multi-colored or brightly colored but may not use a color
that interferes with a player's performance.
4.5 All world, international or regional level sepak takraw matches held under ISTAF
permission, including but not limited to the Olympics, World Championships,
Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and SEA Games, must use balls that have been
approved by ISTAF – with an honest approval process , non-ambiguous and
transparent.

5. PLAYER
5.1 In team matches , each team consists of 4 core players and 2 reserve players
5.2 Team Match Each team consists of 2 Teams (8 core players and 4 reserve players)
5.3 The other three players may be anywhere in the playing area

6. PLAYER UNIFORM
6.1 Players may wear anything other than jeans and trousers, as long as it is appropriate.
Players are prohibited from wearing anything that can harm themselves or their
opponent during the game
6.2 Players are not allowed to wear earrings, bracelets, watches or any other accessories
and must remove them before entering the field
6.3 For girls, players may wear swimsuits but must wear sweatpants or Bermuda shorts to
cover the bottom of the swimsuit. The recommended clothing is:

6.4 The clothes worn by the player are considered as part of his body

7. PLAYER SWITCHING
7.1 Team Match:
7.1.1 substitutions may be made at any time by the Team Manager, or coach to the
Official Referee when the ball is dead
7.1.2 Each team may make no more than 2 substitutions in each set
7.1.3 a player who has been “sent off” by the referee, or a player who is injured may
be substituted provided that there have not been 2 previous substitutions in the
set. If a SECOND substitution has been made, the team may not continue the
game and is deemed a loser with their final score being taken from their last
score, while the opponent is automatically awarded a score of 15 (for the first 2
sets) or 17 (for the decider) or whatever the required winning score if competing
using the " 15 or 17 point" system
7.1.4 The team whose number of players is less than 4 since the start of the match is
prohibited from competing and is declared to have lost in straight sets with a
score of 15 – 0 each.

7.2 TEAM Match:


7.2.1 substitutions may be made at any time by the team manager or coach to the
official referee when the ball is dead
7.2.2 Each team may make no more than 2 substitutions in each set
7.2.3 a player who is “sent off” by the referee, or a player who is injured provided

8. COIN THROW AND WARM UP


8.1 Before starting the match, the field referee will throw a coin in front of the captains of
the two teams, and the winner has the right to choose "Ball" or "Place". The losing
team must accept this choice.
8.2 The team holding the "serve" has the right to "warm up" first for 2 minutes followed
by the opposing team. Only 5 players are allowed to warm up on the eight

9. PLAYER POSITION DURING SERVICE


9.1 When the game is about to start, all players from both teams are in a ready position in
their respective places
9.2 "Tekong" or a player who serves, must place his feet outside/behind the back line

10.2 Immediately after the referee mentions the score, Tekong or the player who
performs the service throws the ball and kicks it through the NET into the
opponent's playing field. The ball is kicked with the foot and can be done with any
style. If Tekong throws the ball before the referee mentions the score, the ball is re-
thrown and the team is given a warning. Repetition of this action is considered a
“Foul.” The serve can be taken from anywhere along the back line
10.3 After the ball is kicked by Tekong, the PLAYER may move anywhere on the court
10.4 Service is considered valid if the ball crosses the NET, whether the ball touches or

third breach of discipline in another match in the same championship.
19.4 Players who commit violations and are "sent off", when committing violations
on or off the field whether the violation was committed to an opponent,
teammate, referee, assistant referee, and or other person and are given a "yellow
card" for each violation are regulated as follows:
19.4.1 Foul: Red Card
Sanction : removed from the match and immediately prohibited from
participating in the next match and other matches in the tournament series, this
sanction is imposed by the Sepak Takraw supervisor until the Disciplinary
Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter.

20. BAD ACTION FROM THE OFFICIAL TEAM

“HOOP” (5 Players Kick Ball Into a Hanging Hoop)

1. FIELD
1.1 The court should be made on a flat, smooth surface, and the main playing area consists
of a smaller inner circle and a larger diameter outer circle, where 5 players on the same
team play
1.2 The inner circle is 4 m or 13 feet, 1 1/8 inches in diameter, and the border width is 4 c
or 1½ inches
1.3 The outer circle is drawn around the inner circle, with a diameter of 16 m or 52 feet 6
inches, and the border is 4 cm or 1½ inches wide.
1.4 The court must be clear of obstructions to a height of 8 m, or 26 ft 3 in, measured
above the surface of the green
1.5 The position of the Triple Hoop above the center of the two circles drawn on the court
is a Triple Hoop which is suspended by a rope tied to a pulley and anchored to a hook
with the length of the rope extending not less than 50 cm, or 19¾ inches at the top of
the hoop circle .

2. A SET OF TRIPLE HOOPS


2.1 The triple hoop kit consists of 3 equal hoops, with an inside diameter of 50 cm or 19¾
inches connected on the sides to form a triangle. Triple hoop is made of metal covered
with foam with a thickness of not more than 10 cm or 4 inches
2.2 Lattice netting is attached around the metal hoop of each triple hoop and suspended

2.3 triple hoop must be suspended so that the underside of the wrapped hoop is 4.75 m or
15 feet 7 1/8 inches above the surface of the court for men and 4.5 m or 14 feet 9 inches
for women .
3. OFFICIAL BALL

3.1 The takraw ball must be round, made of a single ply of woven and synthetic or other
ISTAF-approved materials, and have 12 holes and 20 intersections.
3.2 For men, the circumference of the ball must not be less than 41 cm or 16.14 inches,
and not more than 43 cm or 16.93 inches. For girls the circumference of the ball cannot
be less than 42 cm or 16.54 inches and not more than 44 cm or 17.32 inches
3.3 For men, the ball must not weigh less than 17g or 6oz, and not more than 180g or
6.35oz. For women the weight of the ball cannot be less than 150g or 5.3 oz, and not
more than 160g or 5.6 oz.
3.4 The ball may be of one color, multi-colored or brightly colored but may not use a color
that interferes with a player's performance.
3.5 All world, international or regional level sepak takraw matches held under ISTAF
permission, including but not limited to the Olympics, World Championships,
Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and SEA Games, must use balls that have been
approved by ISTAF – with an honest approval process , non-ambiguous and
transparent.

4. PLAYER
4.1 Each team consists of FIVE core players and ONE reserve player. The member list or
roster MUST include at least 5 players, and must be submitted no later than 30 minutes
before the game
4.2 Only ONE substitution is allowed in a match, either for “injured player” or “technical
reasons”. The substituted player automatically has the score of the player he is
replacing plus his own score for each kick.

5. PLAYER CLOTHES
5.1 All equipment worn by players is suitable for Sepak Takraw. PLAYER safety and
justice is the priority. Any equipment that increases or reduces the speed of the ball or
increases the height of the player so as to give an unfair advantage and/or endanger the
safety of the PLAYER is not allowed
5.2 To avoid conflict and confusion, the two "Teams" or "Teams" competing must wear
uniforms of different colors
5.3 Teams/teams must have at least two sets of uniforms/shirts, one light-colored and one
dark-colored. If two competing teams/teams wear uniforms of the same color, the
home team/team must change uniforms. If played on a Neutral Ground, the first named
team/team must change uniforms
5.4 The clothes that PLAYERS must wear when competing are uniforms/shirts, shorts,
socks, and shoes with rubber soles without heels. Everything the PLAYER wears is
considered a part of his body, so to avoid a "NET Fault " , if the shirt is too wide or
loose, and does not fit snugly against the body. RECOMMEND to tuck it into the
pants. In cold weather conditions, players are allowed to wear sports trousers.
Additional equipment could include a headband or bandana and ankle, knee and/or
wrist guards
5.5 All PLAYER uniforms/shirts must be numbered, each player must have one fixed
number during the game. The numbers that can be used are 1 to 15. The height of the
number size cannot be less than 19 cm or 7.5 inches. The chest number can also be
attached with a height measurement of up to 10 cm or 4 inches. This chest number is
not mandatory

5.6 The captain of each squad must wear a captain's band on his left arm in a different
color from the uniform he wears
5.7 Other equipment that is not specifically mentioned in this rule, can be applied after
obtaining permission from the ISTAF Technical Commission
6.
7. WARM-UP
6.1 Only 5 or 6 players in a team can be on the field to warm up for 2 minutes

8. THE GAME
8.1 The circular playing area up to 3 m or 10 feet must be free of any interference where
the point of Board A is placed
8.2 The triple hoop is raised and lowered by the "Hoop Organizer", the official of the
playing team
8.3 Five core players spread out in the inner and outer circles. They can move positions
during the game
8.4 The game lasts 30 minutes trying to collect as many points as possible
8.5 When the referee gives the "Start Sign", one of the players throws the ball to another
player standing in the circle, and when receiving it he must kick the ball to another
player; starting from this point can be earned by kicking / bouncing the ball into one
of the holes in the triple hoop with the style allowed in section 9.2
8.6 The player who threw the ball starts the game, and all other players must be outside
the inner and outer circle; but as soon as the ball leaves the thrower's hands, all players
can move freely in the field area
8.7 The ball is declared "Dead" when it touches the surface of the court and the ball enters
the hoop
8.8 The player who causes the ball to be dead, because it hits the ground or goes into the
hoop, is the player who will throw the ball to continue the game
8.9 In the case of "Dead Ball", the team may request a change of ball
8.10While in the game, players are not allowed to touch or catch the ball with their hands.
Only when making the first "Throw" the player may hold the ball
8.11After the ball is thrown to continue the game, attempts to score can only be done when
the hoop reaches a certain height
8.12If the ball rolls outside the playing area, one of the players may ask the ball to the
referee's table
8.13The ball is declared "dead" and must be re-thrown when:
8.13.1 the ball hits the surface of the court
8.13.2 the ball sticks or makes it into the hoop
8.13.3 the ball hits something

9. VIOLATION
9.1 The ball touches a player's hand or arm.
9.2 A player touches the ball more than 3 consecutively
9.3 Players deliberately hold the ball while in play n

10. SCORE
10.110 points are awarded for each ball that is successfully inserted into the hoop without
considering kicking techniques with various levels of difficulty, except:
10.1.1 When a player uses the same technique more than 3 times
10.1.2 When a player uses a kicking technique other than those listed in section 9.2
10.1.3 When the incoming ball is a kick from the throw
10.1.4 When the ball bounces back from the hoop and does not enter the net
10.1.5 When the ball is kicked into the hoop after the playing time is up
10.2The following are allowed Kick/Bounce techniques, in order of difficulty:
10.2.1 Heading – Bounces the ball up with the head
10.2.2 Inside Foot Kick – Kick the ball using the inside of the foot
10.2.3 Shoulder Takeoff – Kicks the ball up using the top of the shoulder
10.2.4 Thigh Touch – Bounce the ball using the top of the thigh, just above the knee
10.2.5 Outside Foot Kick – Kicks the ball up using the outside of the foot

10.2.6 Flying Clipping – Using one leg (eg left foot) to propel the body up with a jump,
kicking the ball up from the side of the body used for the launch of the jump
(eg left side), using the inside of the other leg (eg right foot) by crossing behind
the leg of the jump repulsion (eg left foot)
10.2.7 Sole Kick – When the flying ball falls behind the player expected to hoop the
ball, the player punches the ball with the sole of his foot through the back of his
body
10.2.8 Toe – Kick the ball using the toe or instep
10.3The team with the highest total team score, after all teams have played is the winner
10.4If the total score is equal, the winner will be determined by a 5-minute set. The referee
will throw a coin in front of the team captain. The winner of the coin toss will start the
game first. Each team is given 5 minutes to play with the same scoring system as a 30
minute game – trying to get the ball into the Triple Hoop with the mentioned moves,
as many times as possible. If after the extra time ends the position is still the same, an
additional 5 minutes will be added until a winner is found

11. OFFICIAL
11.1 For International Tournaments, matches are arranged by the Officials as follows:
11.1.1.1 – Official Referee

12. REFEREE DUTY
The four Referees each serve as: Referee, Score Keeper, Time Keeper, and Score
Supervisor

12.1Referee
12.1.1 The referees are on the pitch during warm-ups and during matches. The referee
is in charge of ensuring the smooth running of the match and is responsible for;
12.1.2 Ensure players do not wear accessories that could harm themselves during the
game
12.1.3 Marks the start and end of the warm-up, and signals the start and end of the
game
12.1.4 Declare an error occurred during the game
12.1.5 Make sure the player who causes the ball to set off is the player who will
"Throw" the ball to continue the game
12.1.6 Request a Technical Time-Out in the event of an injury or accident during a
match
12.1.7 Gives a yellow card or red card to a player who commits a foul according to the
list of offenses in section 12.1
12.1.8 Line up all the players in front of the Referee Table to receive an announcement
of the total score from the score supervisor
12.1.9 Ensures that points are awarded only when the hoop is in the correct position

12.2Score Keeper
12.2.1 The scorekeeper is placed next to the supervisor on the Referee's Table
12.2.2 The scorekeeper is tasked with recording the score manually, specifically
recording the order of the total score, as well as recording the number of kicks
/ bounces made by the players
12.2.3 In charge of notifying the Supervisor of a valid point score according to the
number and technique of kicks/bounces that have been taken

12.3Time Keeper
12.3.1 The timekeeper is on the Referee's Table next to the scorekeeper
12.3.2 The Timekeeper is in charge of recording the time and blowing the whistle to
mark the start and end of the warm-up and match
12.3.3 Stopping time when the referee declares a Technical Time-Out
12.3.4 Enter numbers into the electronic scoreboard as announced by the score
supervisor

12.3.5 Ensure that the Hoop Setter has beaded the Triple Hoop set to the proper height
and signaled to lower the hoop to pick up any balls that make it through

12.4Score Supervisor
12.4.1 The Score Supervisor is at the referee's table
12.4.2 When the points are successfully obtained, the score supervisor announces the
score obtained in detail, starting from the number of the shirt, the number of
applied styles of kicks/bounces, for example "Number seven, first kick with the
sole of the foot" or "Number ten, third deep kick"
12.4.3 If a player has used the same style of kick/bounce to enter the ball more than 3
times. The Score Supervisor will announce in detail, starting from the number
of the shirt, the number of kicks / bounces that have been applied followed by
the sentence "DOES NOT COUNT", for example "Number seven, kick of the
Fourth Foot, DOES NOT COUNT"
12.4.4 A ball collector is placed outside the playing area, tasked with picking up balls
that are outside the playing area, he is also tasked with immediately returning
the ball to the referee's table.
12.4.5 A hoop adjuster is responsible for lowering and raising the triple hoop set during
the game, he is placed next to the referee's table near the time keeper, he also
ensures that the height of the hoop matches the markings on the ropes and posts

13. PUNISHMENT
13.1 If a player deliberately touches the ball with his hands during play, the referee will
immediately give him a yellow card (first and last warning). If he repeats it in the
same game, he will get a red card
13.2 Giving a red card directly removes a player from the match, so the match is declared
over, because another player cannot be replaced. The final total score is the final
score when that player is sent off

14. CONCLUSION
14.1If there are questions or there are things that are not explained directly by the match
rules, the official referee's decision is the final decision

15. PUNISHMENT
Violations and misconduct will be punished as follows:
15.1Warning – Players get a “Yellow Card” or a “Warning” for committing any of the
following 6 offences
15.1.1 Being guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct, showing such conduct could seriously
be considered a minor or serious breach of sporting ethics norms and could have
or would have a detrimental effect on proper conduct during the match as a
whole
15.1.2 Opposing the referee's decision in words or actions
15.1.3 Constantly breaking the “Rules of the Game”
15.1.4 Procrastinate game
15.1.5 Entering or re-entering the pitch without the referee's permission (except during
regular play)
15.1.6 Leaving the pitch without the referee's permission (except during normal play)
15.2Expulsion – Player will get “Red Card” and “Send off” (immediately asked to leave
the game) for committing any of the following offences
15.2.1 Guilty of committing a capital offence
15.2.2 Guilty of committing acts of violence, including acts done intentionally to
injure an opponent
15.2.3 Spit on opponents or other people
15.2.4 Using words and/or gestures that are offensive or insulting and or harassing
15.2.5 Received second warning (Yellow Card) in one match

15.3 A player who commits a “With a Warning” Violation on or off the field, whether the
offense was committed at an opponent, a teammate, the referee, the assistant referee
or any other person, and is given a “Yellow Card” for each offense is governed as
follows
15.3.1 First Yellow Card
Sanction: Ordinary Warning
15.3.2 Fouls: the same player gets a second yellow card in two different games but in
the same championship
Sanctions: Penalties are prohibited from following one match
15.3.3 Foul: The same player received a third yellow card after serving a suspension
for 2 yellow cards, in the same tournament
Penalty: Two-match ban, plus a $100 fine to be paid by the club or anyone
representing the player in the championship
15.3.4 Foul: the same player gets a fourth yellow card after serving a penalty of being
suspended for 2 matches for previously getting 3 yellow cards, in the same
tournament.
Sanctions: Immediately banned from participating in the next two matches and
other matches in the tournament series, the sanction is imposed by the Sepak
Takraw supervisory body until the Disciplinary Committee convenes to make
a final decision on the matter.
15.3.5 Foul : The same player gets two yellow cards in the same game
Penalty: Two game ban, plus a $100 fine to be paid by the club or anyone
representing the player in the championship. A red card will be awarded for a
third breach of discipline in another match in the same championship.

15.4for each violation is set as follows:


15.4.1 Foul: Red Card
Sanction : removed from the match and immediately prohibited from
participating in the next match and other matches in the tournament series, this
sanction is imposed by the Sepak Takraw supervisor until the Disciplinary
Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter.

16. BAD ACTION FROM THE OFFICIAL TEAM

16.1Disciplinary action will be given to Team or Team/Team Officials who commit


disgraceful or disruptive actions in a championship which are carried out on or off the
field
16.2All Team Officials who commit disgraceful or disruptive actions will be immediately
expelled from the field by the match Official and the Official Referee, and prohibited
from accompanying the match as an Official Team by the Sepak Takraw supervisor
until the Disciplinary Committee convenes to make a final decision on the matter

17. ETC
17.1If there are questions or other matters from the points above, which are not stated in
the match rules, the official referee's decision is absolute
