The effectiveness of using the communicative approach in

developing English speaking skills at the secondary stage

1. Introduction :-

Different methods are used in teaching foreign languages. Some of these methods
focus on spoken language in order to help learners speak the language in everyday life
situations, while others negle the listening and speaking skills and lay more  on gram-
matical rules and reading, they failed to give learners an opportunity to gain real lan-
guage in using the language knowledge which learners have obtained through these
methods.  The communicative approach is one of the methods used in teaching foreign
languages. It puts more emphasis on the learners communicative competence wich in-
cludes knowing not only the language form, but also what to say and how to say it ap-
propriately in any given
situation.

2. Problem of the study :-

It has been absered that one of the main problems. which face students in the
process of learning a language is there an obvious incapacity to communicate and
comprehend the english language that often occur when the students try to express
themselves or to speak for a long time in any real situation there are many for this
problem such as not organizing the classroom as an environment for communication
and Communication activities, there is no real interaction between teachers and stu-
dents or between students to students.

3. Objectives :-

to explain and examine the effectiveness of using Communicative approach in de-


veloping speaking skill in english.

4. Research question :-

What are the reasons that preventing the students of using their oral ability for
long communication?

5. purpose and significance of study :-

the study aims to investigate some classroom behaviors of Janzour secondary


school teachers to determine the extent of using the communicative approach which

the new syllabus has been based and the reasons stand behind developing student
ability for communication widely the study will be of particular interest to the teachers
of english language in the secondary stage. It has focused on divesting their teaching
methods and techniques to be in harmony with the principles and objectives of the
communicative approach. This study also densifies the reasons stand behind develop-
ing students communicative ability that may encounter them when they use the target
language outside classroom.

6. limitation of study :-

The study is limited to the secondary School in Janzour. The duration of this

study is restricted Between the months of October , November and December of

the year 2022, 2023
