Introduction

The Covid-19 outbreak has left the Philippines with major unemployment and food

shortages. Millions of people have lost their employment, and food and financial aid from the
Philippines government has been allocated unequally and unfairly among Filipinos. As a result,

many Filipinos are taking matters into their own hands to ensure their survival and well-being.

Since the outbreak, many people have expressed an interest in growing their own plants and

flowers in their own gardens or backyards. They go by the names plantita and plantito. Taking

care of plants is not only a fantastic method to de-stress and maintain excellent mental health, but

it also enhances the beauty of one's home. Many people are becoming interested in plants.

Spring onions are a type of green onion or scallion that has a greater flavour and bite.

They may be used in any recipe that calls for green onions, from salads to salsas, and are

particularly useful when chefs want to give their cuisine a kick. When these onions are in season,

many markets and greengrocers stock them, and they are also simple to grow at home; store

bulbs can even be used as a starter to grow fresh ones.

These onions are in season in the spring, as their name suggests. They resemble green

onions in appearance, but their bulbs are larger and more distinct. Although the greens are

equally strongly flavoured, the larger bulbs have a pronounced onion flavour. Spring onions, like

regular green onions, are frequently marketed with their roots attached.

Onions can be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen. Diced or chopped, they can be

used in sauces, stir fries, and other meals. They can also be grilled and eaten raw, or roasted and

used as a garnish or side dish. Some individuals love eating them raw with a pinch of salt, but

this is not a sport for the faint of heart. In savoury tarts, they can be caramelized to bring out their

natural sweetness and rich flavours.

When shopping for spring onions, seek for a bunch that has crisp, firm leaves that are a

uniform deep green color. Specimens with discolored, slimy, or wilted leaves should be
discarded, and crisp, hard bulbs should be sought. They should be washed before use and kept in

the refrigerator for a couple of days. To get to the tender, crunchy interior of the bulb, cooks can

peel off the outer layer.

These onions can be grown in the garden or in containers. Plant seeds or starter bulbs in a

relatively sunny position with well-drained soil, and keep the onions damp but not dripping wet

as they grow. If cooks just want to utilize the milder greens, shear them off near the bulb,

allowing the onions to produce new shoots to replenish the pantry. Chefs can also remove the

onions from the bulb and utilize them whole.

Green onion is commonly utilized in many nations as a component of spice in a range of cuisines

and is widely used in vegetable salads. Green onions, like onion bulbs, have antimicrobial and

medicinal characteristics in addition to their unique flavor (Augusti, 1990). Onion bulbs

cultivated in cool-temperate climates are pulled out of the soil before leaf senescence and skin

curing are complete. This process isolates the plants from both soil water and nutrients, making it

the most significant pre-harvest management intervention to effect a developing crop. Lifting

during onion crop maturation has been demonstrated to affect a variety of crop metrics, including

overall yield (Sargent et al. 2001).

Findings

In planting of Spring Onion, I used our backyard as my garden, in process I mix the soil, animal

manure and vermicast to fertilize my plant to grow faster and healthy, as the problem I couldn’t

avoid those pesticides/animals that destroyed plant but to protect I check it every day and I

decided to cover it a net.

Recommendation

I suggest to a newer to taking care of your plants with fertilizer so that it will grow faster and

healthy. The leaves of spring onions are delicate from heat of sunlight that can cause to dry the

leaves, to protect it sprinkle with water every day and I suggested you cover the ground of your
