Introduction

Education is a life-long process of learning and to become an

efficient and effective one, the strategies, tactics and teaching styles must be
upgraded. For us to be knowledgeable enough, we should do a continuous
learning in order for us to gain more information about something.

In this subject, Field Study 1 and Field Study 2 prepares us student-

teacher to be in the learning field. It helps us to observe to the learning of
students, their strengths and weaknesses, school facilities, structures, and
community. This is our first time to do the actual teaching wherein it helps us
in our internship to identify what to improve in our teaching skills. It also
where we need to step out to our comfort zone in order for us to grow. It is
the time of trial and error and for growing confidence and beginning of
expertise. It is not the time of perfection but of striving for competence.
Though student teaching, is a process whereby a potential teacher confirms
to himself/herself and others that he/she has the resourcefulness to survive
with educators, he/she must first understand the value of continuous learning
because this could be the best tool in molding individuals into a better and
more competitive one.

This serves as a significant way to equipped future teachers adequate

knowledge, skills, and strategies on how to handle a class base from their
observation in an actual classroom setting. The first major step in moving
from amateur status toward gaining competencies that mark the real
professional is the student teaching opportunities to the educational theories
and methods into practice. Student teaching is first and foremost a learning
situation. This is the craft before he or she has to put his/her skills on the
lime in the own classroom. This is the student teacher’s chance to learn from
his mistakes without causing harm to his/her students. This is the time for the
student teacher to find out an actual teaching situation, the prospect teacher

gains more experiences that would serve as a credential in their path. As we

Cooperating School Profile and Brief History

Palina East National High School is a Public High School specifically

located at Palina East, Urdaneta City Pangasinan. The school was established
on March 05, 1965, to be exact. Its establishment was legalized through
Resolution No. 48 of the Urdaneta Municipal Council headed by former Mayor
Amadeo R. Perez Jr., Attorney Rufino A. Ortiz, District Council of Palina and a
member of the Municipal Council prepared the resolution.

The opening of this school evidently turned the enthusiasm of the

barrio folks to pursue their studies since many of them cannot afford to go to
town due to financial constraint.

Palina Junior High School was the pilot name of the school. Then in
1966, it became Palina Barrio High School. Finally in 1988, it was changed to
Palina East National High School by virtue of Executive Order 189 declaring
the nationalization of Barangay Schools under the Administrative Supervision
and control of the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS).

Initially, the school had four classrooms walled with slit bamboo and
neatly arranged coconut leaves. Its roots were also made of weaved coconut

leaves, and its ground was plain soil. Students used to open their umbrellas
even inside the rooms to protect themselves from the heat of the sun or
drops of rain.

Beliefs on Teaching and Learning (Pre)

Learning is a lifelong process and I do believe in this saying. You will

never stop learning even though you’ve already learned about anything . As a

future teacher, I hope that everyone can learn and that reasonable

expectations that challenge all learners are maintained. They must also be

able to express their enthusiasm for learning and see all interactions as

chances to teach and learn. Because the fundamental goal of assessment is

to increase learning, it gives all students the opportunity to showcase what

they know, value, and can accomplish. I also believe that learning is a

process of making sense of the world, thus we should be concerned with

understanding development and acknowledge that concepts are built and

subject to question or revision. We must identify and adapt to individual

variances and learning styles since learners are unique and accountable for

their own learning. We, too, must show concern and understanding for each

learner, as well as include and optimize the participation of students of

various skills and backgrounds. Learning also requires the ability to link

previous knowledge, perceptions, or patterns of experience with new

experiences, information, and settings.

Beliefs on Teaching and Learning (Post)

“Never stop learning because life never stops teaching.” This quote
reflects on me as a future teacher. While you are teaching, you are learned
and what you learned, you teach it to your students. But, teaching requires a
lot of patience and dedication. After my experiences during my observation,
I’ve come to realize that teaching is not easy. Teaching is something you
need to be prepared physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.

You cannot be an effective teacher if you are not prepared. Teaching is

not effective especially if the learners are not learning. You can’t teach
students in an effective way if you do not think what are the best strategies
to teach them. In addition, being a teacher not only teach students but you
need also to motivate and assist on their needs as a learner. They are
depending and expected too much on us that is why as a teacher, we need to
be extra-careful and knowledgeable enough in sharing and imparting
knowledge to them.

from my Resource Teacher, other teachers and especially to our Principal
wherein they shared their words of wisdom which is a big help for us to apply
in our future career which is to teach students. All the faculty staffs are
approachable and kind. What I like most in this school is that it helps us to be
secured and safe especially the students. Our safety is the most important
once we entered to the gate.

I’ve met different personalities of students wherein I learned how to

manage them well and on how to deal with it. Teaching students needs a lot
of patience indeed. My Resource Teacher helps me to mold my confidence in
teaching and always cheer me up that I can do more. With her help, I’ve
became socialize and better person wherein she helps me to expose myself to
our students. She teaches me and shares different teaching strategies to
teach students effectively. She helps me throughout my Field Study. I’ve met

Introduction

Education is the process of imparting or acquiring knowledge, as well as the

development of reasoning and decision-making abilities. It intellectually prepares
oneself or others for a mature life. It improves not only people's personal lives, but
also their community. Being a student-teacher is a difficult challenge for any
graduating education student. This requires a significant amount of effort and
dedication. In order to mold oneself into a great professional, one must not rely
solely on one's own abilities; you will undoubtedly require assistance and guidance
from others. The field study journey is not the time to be weak because it will surely
consume your strength. The student-teacher was challenged throughout her journey
in field study because this was her first exposure to face-to-face teaching filed. The
student-teacher was expected to grow as a future educator while also being aware
of all the responsibilities that come with the job. The provided resource teacher, as
well as the co student-teachers, are enormously helpful in this journey; without
them, this journey may fail. The student-teacher was able to meet the expectation
thanks to her hard work and dedication, as well as the people who have offered her
love, guidance, and support. The field study journey shaped the student-teacher into
a better version, allowed the student-teacher to grow and learn from her mistakes
without causing harm to any students, and opened the student-teacher eyes to the
realities of its profession.

Cooperating School Profile and Brief History

It was sometime in the year 1997, when a group of men and women had
envisioned the founding of an institution of learning that would cater quality
secondary education for the youth in this part of the province. Through their vision
and wisdom, they came together, and with teamwork and unity, they have
endeavored and dedicated themselves towards the full realization of their fondest
dreams. With the founding and construction of the school building, later known as
the Balungao National High School, this group of men and women had given their
best legacy to the town of Balungao and its towns’ people.

It was the then Congressman Ranjit Ramos Shabani of the 6th Congressional
District of Pangasinan, who, because of his genuine concern for the welfare of his
constituents, bad spearheaded this move by making possible, through his
Countryside Development Fund (CDF), the release of the needed and necessary
funds for the construction of a five classroom building in a wide and spacious school
site within the town proper suitably located for the education of the youth. In

response to the needs of those times, the then Municipal Government headed by the
Municipal Mayor of Balungao, Pangasinan, Hon. Hermenegildo C. Libantino, also
made possible the donation of a municipal lot as the site wherein the Balungao
National High School presently stands. Kudos and hail to them and to the others
who had sown the seeds in this regard, the fruits of which we are now harvesting.

The enrolment of the school of 250 students when it was opened for
operation during the school year 1997-1998 had multiplied four fold with its
enrolment of 1061 during the school year 2015-2016. It is presently manned by 45
strong, very active, dedicated and very competent teachers and staff, who, with
their hard work and devotion to their duties, coupled with the all-out support of the
government officials, and the public, in general, will surely make Balungao National
High School, to become, sooner or later, one of the most prestigious secondary
institutions in the province of Pangasinan.

The Teacher and the Learner both play roles in teaching and learning.

Teaching is the process of passing on or sharing knowledge. While learning is

primarily concerned with acquiring knowledge. These are the most common things

that happen in school when the teacher teaches and the students learn.

Beliefs on Teaching and Learning (Post)

Teaching is more than just passing on knowledge; it is also about making a

difference in the lives of each student. Being a teacher entails more than just

teaching; it also entails guiding and assisting your students throughout their journey.

For a teacher to be effective, he/she must have a strong bond and connection with

his/her students, which will also contribute to the effectiveness of students' learning.

Learning entails not only acquiring knowledge but also putting it into practice.

Reflection

The field study journey is both a difficult and enjoyable experience. This
journey broadened my perspective on the teaching profession. It put my skills and
abilities to the test. I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to participate in this type
of training, and I am even more grateful to have met good people who will assist me
throughout the process. Balungao National High School is an excellent training
ground, with a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The teachers there are so nice and
approachable; they all treat me like I'm part of their family, for which I will be
eternally grateful.

I've dealt with a wide range of student personalities and learned how to
manage and deal with them. Teaching students takes a lot of patience, but my
Resource Teacher is always there to help me with classroom management and to
encourage me to be more patient. With her help, I've become a better person, and
she's helped me expose myself to our students. She instructs me and shares
different teaching strategies for effectively teaching students.

I will cherish the memories that this journey provided me with and apply all of
the knowledge that I have gained in the process of becoming a wonderful educator.

INTRODUCTION

The community and school systems are mostly observed for the student
teaching portfolio. The student has been introduced to the school's setting and
organizational structure, and they will watch how other students behave in the
actual classroom.

Its goal is to establish a link between the academic theories and how they are
used in practice. Student teachers will be guided to choose whether teaching is the
right career choice by early field study.

This program aims to provide students with practical field experience under
the supervision of cooperating professors. The collaborating teachers lead us
through the process, assisting us in picking up new skills, improving, and correcting
errors. By progressively introducing us to their future surroundings, it also helps
prepare student teachers who are being thrown into the profession.

It is expected of student teachers to learn as much as they can about the

rules and regulations that apply both within and outside the classroom. As I practice
teaching, I've come to the conclusion that it's crucial to pay attention to your
cooperating teacher because they have the necessary expertise. Preparation is
crucial in addition to everything else. Making plans for potential scenarios will
increase success. I discovered that a teacher's job in the classroom included more
than just imparting knowledge and submitting marks to the appropriate people. The
learners are the primary focus of instruction. They are at the core of the lesson, thus
it is important that we understand who they are and how they behave in a
classroom. In the classroom, the instructor is the only source of information and the
supreme authority. If a teacher is unable to run a productive classroom, they are not
a teacher.

After all, I discovered that teachers are required to take part in all school
functions as members of the faculty. Not just for the sake of the school's well-being,
but also for the advancement of our knowledge and abilities. Teachers also interact
with one another in this way.

COOPERATING SCHOOL PROFILE AND BRIEF HISTORY

Name of School: Badipa National High School

Working Teams: BNHS Gloria G. Jacobe, Nyka A. Piñon, Mark L. Reambonanza

BADIPA National High School is now the second biggest public high school in
terms of its population in Urdaneta City Division with 842 enrollees. The School’s
Beginnings Its history began when Dr. Pedro T. Orata of Brgy. Bactad, Urdaneta,
Pangasinan founded the Barangay High Schools in the year 1965-1966 with his main
goal to help the students from the barangay to enroll and finish their secondary
education with free tuition fees and less allowance and free fare expenses.
According to Dr. Teofidez E. Calvero, one of the pioneers in the establishment of
Badipa Barangay High School, and Mrs. Flordeliza M. Palacio, an alumnus and former
teacher of the school, Badipa Barangay High School started its operation in 1966
with Mr. Lino A. Caringal as the Principal of Urdaneta Community High School (now
the Urdaneta City National High School) and the overall principal of all Barangay
High Schools. The principals of the Elementary Schools were designated as the
OIC/assistant principal in the barangay high schools in the absence of the overall
principal. There were only three (3) barangay high schools which first operated
namely, Bactad, Cabuloan and Cabaruan Barangay High School. Having witnessed
the successful operation of the above-named schools, the people of Bayaoas, Dilan
Paurido and other Urdaneta barrios also wanted to open their own secondary
schools. In 1966, Badipa Barangay High School as its former name was founded
together with thousands of barangay high schools in the country. Its name was
derived from the two barangays of Urdaneta where the students are mainly from,
Bayaoas for BA and Dilan-Paurido for DIPA. Through the initiative of the Barrio
Council, the Parent Teachers Association and the coordination and leadership of Mr.

Jose Q. Lorica, the acting principal of Badipa Elementary School and his teaching
staff, they crafted a resolution for the setting up of the Badipa Barangay High
School. After completing the requirements for the establishment of rural secondary
school, this new school opened its doors to first year students during School Year
1967-1968. After its opening, some of the students of Urdaneta Community High
School who were from Barangay Bayaoas and Dilan-Paurido were asked to return to
Badipa Barangay High School to continue their second year and succeeding high
school years. The school has produced its first batch of graduates in the year 1970
with Filipina E. Manuel as Valedictorian and Gloria D. Ballesteros as Salutatorian who
were both residents of barangay Bayaoas. Badipa Barangay High School prospered
through the years and became a complete secondary school during the school year
1967-1968. The batch who completed their stay in school from first year to fourth
year was the batch of Dr. Teresita L. Locquiao who was then the class valedictorian
now an Education Program Supervisor for kindergarten at SDO Urdaneta City and
Madam Flordeliza M. Palacio as the class salutatorian in 1971 Following Dr. Pedro T.
Oratas’ innovative plans for Barangay High Schools, rooms then which were not
being used by elementary pupils were used by high school students. Facilities such
as the library, the Home Economics (H.E.) building, the school garden, the clinic and
other facilities and equipment in the elementary school were commonly shared by
both elementary and high school learners. Mr. Jose Q. Lorica, the Principal of Badipa
Elementary School, served as the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of Badipa Barangay High
School in S.Y. 1966-1967. Under his supervision were Mrs. Lourdez Alejo and Mr.
Jose Miranda who served as regular teachers. Later, the school was provided
additional part time teachers to teach the other subjects and help in other school
services. Mr. Teofidez E. Calvero handled English, General Science, Algebra and
Physics, Mr. Florencio Duzon taught Practical Arts, while Miss Aida Ereso and Miss
Anisteta Pasig handled Home Economics classes, and Mrs. Irenea L. Calvero served
as School Librarian and Clinic Teacher. School’s Transformation With the rapid
increase in enrolment, it became a necessity for the school to have its own grounds
and buildings, during the school year 1968-1969, the Parents Teachers Association
President Jose Bergado, the barangay council of Dilan-Paurido headed by Mr. Rufo

Locquiao, Mr. Ramon Manuel, barangay captain of Bayaoas and the Badipa
Elementary School teaching staff pooled their resources to purchase a 300 – meter
lot owned by Mr. Emilio Siquig just at the western perimeter of the elementary
school. His son Paulino Siquig, later joined the faculty of Badipa Barangay High
School who was teamed-up with Mr.Florencio Duzon as Practical Arts teacher and
Mr. Gregorio Locquiao teaching Agriculture to high school students. In 1987, by
virtue of Executive Order 189 declaring all Barangay High Schools to be nationalized,
the school was renamed BADIPA

REFLECTION

The field research trip is both challenging and rewarding. My

perspective on the teaching profession has changed as a result of this
adventure. It required me to use all of my knowledge and talents. I'm ecstatic
to have the chance to take part in this kind of training, and I'm even more
thankful to have connected with kind people who will support me during the
procedure. Badipa National High School is a first-rate training facility with a
friendly environment. I will always be grateful to the teachers there since they
are all so kind and approachable and treat me like I'm a member of their
family.

I've encountered a variety of different student personalities and have

learnt how to handle and control them. It takes a lot of patience to teach
pupils, but my resource teacher is always there to support me and give me
advice on how to handle the classroom. She has assisted me in improving
myself as a person and in exposing myself to our students. She gives me
advice and divulges several teaching techniques for successfully instructing
students.

I will treasure the memories that this voyage has given me and put all
of the knowledge I have learned to use as I work to become an excellent
teacher.
