MANUAL INTRODUCTION

OVERVIEW:
This manual is a work in progress. The contents contained in this manual will continue to evolve
over time.

GOAL:
The goal of this manual is to provide NIKE Apparel Technical Designers/Developers, Product
Developers and Factory Partners with standardized folding methods for NIKE’s most commonly-
produced product types.

The purpose of these standards is to enable speed and consistency in the preparation and folding of
NIKE Apparel product.

If you do not see a product type that is representative of the style for which you are trying to
determine an appropriate folding method, please reach out to your NIKE PI (CQE or SQE) contact
for support.

SCOPE:
The scope of this manual DOES include guidelines for applying hangtags, joker tags and size strip
stickers (typically prior to folding), as well as how to fold and apply tissue paper to product requiring
extra protection during storage / shipping.

The scope does NOT include details on hangtag or joker tag item numbers or artwork, polybag /
protective package / carton specs or specific details, or any account-specific packing standards such
as GOH (goods on hanger) or pre-pack (when multiple units are packed together). Please leverage
existing resources for current out-of-scope topics.

NOTES:
This is a smart PDF - On the following pages, simply click on the bold word you’d like to learn more
about, and it will take you directly to that page.

FOR OUR FACTORY PARTNERS:

Folding method and tissue paper use should minimize risk of color transfer, snagging, creasing /
wrinkling or other shipping or storage-related quality issues, and should not prevent proper metal
detection due to thickness of garment after folding.

For example, you may need to reduce the number of folds for crease-prone materials such as
spacer knit (example: Tech Fleece), or reduce and/or shift placement of folds to protect certain
graphics / embellishments.

Individual NIKE Developers may modify these standards to meet their specific product and / or
consumer needs. Please refererence individual style specs / BOMs for any style-specific folding /
packing exceptions, and consult with NIKE API (Apparel Product Integrity) as needed.

Hangtag Placement, General
Hangtags should not cause damage to the product. Once you have selected the appropriate
placement option, please adjust as needed to prevent quality issues.

The Performance category primary tags are shown in the examples below, however, these standards
apply to all Apparel / Accessory product unless otherwise noted.

1. Unless otherwise specified, all hangtags should be stacked together, and applied to garment with
(1) swift-tack. Please reference the Hangtag Sequence section for hangtag stacking order.

EXCEPTION: For styles with 3rd-party hangtag(s) such as Gore-Tex, Cordura, and Econyl, please
place 3rd-party hangtag(s) at Wearer’s Right side or another suitable location.

2. Hangtag should be pulled to the outside of the product. UPC label side should be visible through
polybag when packed.
3. Hangtag placement should NOT cause damage to the product. Please select the most appropriate
placement from the options shown on the following pages.
4. When cut, the swift-tack end should NOT remain inside the product.
5. When product is hung, hangtag should not touch the floor.

WARM-UPS and MULTIPLE-PIECE SETS (ALL REGIONS)

1. A hangtag must be placed on both the top and bottom piece of warm-ups and multiple-piece sets.
2. The Bill of Material (BOM) must be updated by the Product Creation team, and should include the
hangtag and UPC sticker information, as well as the correct placement of the hangtag.
3. The garment factory must order one UPC sticker for each piece (i.e. top and bottom garment)
to ensure a sticker is placed on all items. Example: the garment “top” hangtag, garment “bottom”
hangtag and the outside of the polybag. Only one piece can have a UPC sticker with RFID/QR
technology. The polybag and additional pieces must use non-RFID UPC stickers.

(USA ONLY)
4. The “SETS” UPC sticker with MSRP should be placed on the garment “top” hangtag and the
polybag. The Generic English Only UPC sticker (used for salesman samples) does not contain MSRP
and should be placed on the garment “bottom” hangtag.

(CHINA ONLY)
5. The China insert must be attached to each piece. For example, inserts are placed on both the top
and bottom of warm-ups, on both the outer and inner piece of 2-in-1 sets, and on each piece of 3-in-1
sets.

Notes on Tissue Paper

1) To minimize adjustments after final cost approval, please leverage previously tested color / embellishment /
material combos whenever possible, to determine level of risk / need for tissue on similar future combos.
2) Different material lots may require different tissue paper needs, depending on test results.
3) Please ensure all prints / embellishments are properly cured, using correct ink formulation, to minimize risk
of shipping / storage-related issues. Tissue should not be used to “fix” print-related issues not addressed at the
appropriate stage of production.

Hanger Terms and Definitions
Example:
NIKE product is sometimes shipped
(from factory or DC (Distribution Center))
on a hanger.

This is an example of a
VAS, or value-added service, and is often
referred to as GOH (garment on hanger).

NOTE: Please reference www.Nikeconnect.com for other VAS documentation not contained
in this Manual.

GOH details are typically specified on the PO (Purchase Order)*.

On the PO, each item required for GOH is specified with a VAS code:

HNB = Nike Stores Custom Hanger;

Used only for Nike Store product requiring GOH
Identified by the “Ship-To” data (Customer 8000001) in the PO

HNG = GS1** Standard Hanger;

Used for all other product requiring GOH

SZR = Crown Sizer;

Used for communicating the product size

PPP*** = Prepack Polybag;

Used for protecting product during shipping and storage

*For KIDS / INFANT product sold as a set, Hanger details may (also) be included on the BOM.

**GS1 is a 3rd-party entity which provides industry standards for hangers, crown sizers, etc.
Please visit https://www.gs1us.org for more details.

***Direct Ship POs do not require the PPP code, however, the steps detailed in the GOH Polybags
and GOH Cartons sections should still be followed.

I-Beam vs C-Beam Hangers

The terms “I-Beam” and “C-Beam” refer to the shape of a hanger’s cross-section.

C-Beam Hangers are not permitted for NIKE product, unless they are a NIKE Stores Custom
Hanger, as detailed on Pg 95.

All GOH product that is NOT shipping to a NIKE Store (either directly, or via a DC), must use
the GS1 Standard (I-Beam) hangers detailed on the following page.
