Who is Nucleus Medical Media?

Nucleus Medical Media helps people make better health decisions with its award-
winning patient education content. Since 1997, the company has created original 3D
animations and illustrations which it licenses to health systems, hospitals, clinics and
private practices to attract new patients, improve productivity, raise satisfaction levels
and lower readmission rates. The company's flagship content is a 24,000-item library of
3D medical animations and illustrations viewed by millions of patients on healthcare
websites, social media, and on websites such as WebMD and YouTube, where the
company has over 1.3 million subscribers.

What is Nucleus PatientEd?

Nucleus PatientEd is the world’s leading Automated Patient Education software.
Available as a Service as a Service (SaaS) platform, Nucleus PatientEd is guaranteed to
work seamlessly within your EHR software without adding steps to your workflow.
Nucleus PatientEd delivers award-winning patient education materials guaranteed to
improve patient engagement and satisfaction while saving you and your staff time from
explaining medical issues.

What  is  Automated  Patient  Education  (APE)?

Automated  Patient  Education  Software  uses  patient  data  and  technology  to  deliver
relevant  information  to  patients  at  the  right  time  and  place,  improving  shared
decision-‐making  and  patient  engagement,  while  integrating  seamlessly  into  the
practice  workflow.

How does it work?

The platform scans your patients’ diagnostic codes (ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, etc) and, when
it finds a match, pairs them with accurate, relevant 3D animations and other content
explaining diseases, conditions, treatment options, and aftercare. Afterward, it
automatically sends the animations to your patients via email or text so they can view
them on their computer or smartphone. Signing on involves a quick registration, followed
by a two week “Acclimation Phase” where we let the app run to evaluate matches.
Patients receive no content during this period. After a 2-3 week period, we provide you
with a Product Set-up report so you can review the animations associated with specific
codes to make sure they’re right for your patients, or request changes. After you approve
the Product Set-up, we activate the app and it will begin automatically sending your
patients relevant content.
Is Nucleus PatientEd right for my practice?
You are an excellent candidate if you agree with the following statements:

! Well-educated patients are better able to understand and manage their own health and
medical care throughout their lives.1

! Technology should work for me and my patients, and not the other way around.
Ideally, it should save me and my staff time and require no extra work or changes to my
workflow.

! Videos are an effective medium for patient education because they require no reading
and patients find them easy to understand, regardless of their health literacy level.2

! There is potential bias in giving my patients free materials sponsored by

pharmaceutical companies, and I am willing to pay a reasonable fee to give them
unbiased, evidence-based content.

! Technology should be cost-effective with a clear ROI in the form of greater

efficiencies, higher reimbursements (e.g. MIPS), and increased referrals from satisfied
patients.

How does Nucleus PatientEd help my patients?

Your patients receive videos based specifically on their patient records. Because the
videos are written at a 5th to 8th grade level, are evidence-based, and have won scores of
awards for their accuracy and cinematic quality, there is a higher likelihood your patients
will watch and understand them vs handing them a print brochure or even explaining a
topic at the point of care.

Nucleus PatientEd gives patients an easy way to watch accurate 3D animations anywhere
or anytime – using a computer or smartphone.

Does Nucleus PatientEd qualify under any of the MIPS Performance Categories?
Yes, Nucleus PatientEd affords your practice a number of qualifying benefits under the
Performance Categories, primarily, Improvement Activities.

This is a performance category that includes an inventory of activities that assess how
you improve your care processes, enhance patient engagement in care, and increase
access to care. The inventory allows you choose the activities appropriate to your practice

from categories such as, enhancing care coordination, patient and clinician shared
decision-making, and expansion of practice access.

Nucleus PatientEd qualifies for the following coded requirements:

IA_BE_12 - Use evidence-based decision aids to support shared decision-making.
IA_BE_14 - Engage Patients and Families to Guide Improvement in the System of Care
IA_BE_6 - Collection and follow-up on patient experience and satisfaction data on
beneficiary engagement
IA_BE_4 - Engagement of patients through implementation of improvements in patient
portal

What is the cost and ROI for Nucleus PatientEd?

The cost for is $49 per physician per month with the ability to cancel at any time, and a
full refund if you feel for any reason the cost did not provide you with a minimum 2x
ROI. There is no limit on the number of patients you can include or the number of views
they consume. The way we calculate monthly ROI is based on this formula: Time Your
Patients Spend Watching Videos x Your Hourly Billing Rate – Monthly Subscription
Cost divided by Monthly Subscription Cost.

The Time Your Patients Spend Watching Videos is a straightforward measurement based
on patients who launch videos. For example, a patient diagnosed with Essential (Primary)
Hypertension, would be assigned the following animations to watch from their secure
patient portal:

76622 - High Blood Pressure

80981 - How High Blood Pressure Is Diagnosed
80983 - Understanding Basic Blood Pressure Control
80985 - Complications of High Blood Pressure
80990 - Treatment for High Blood Pressure

It would take a patient 21 minutes to watch all of these videos one time, and if patients
watch a video multiple times, those minutes are added to the calculation as well.
Currently, we count the full runtime of the animation as the total time a patient watches a
video, but in future versions you will be able to see when a patient partially watches a
video.

Sample ROI Calculation: Time spent watching of 2.5 hours times a billing rate of
$105/hour = $262.50 minus monthly cost of $49 = $213.50, divided by $49 = 4.36 ROI.
In short, you should anticipate an approximate 4x return on your monthly spend.

What do physicians have to say about Nucleus?

“Working with Nucleus we found our patients are better educated about their disease
states and surgical procedures. We find the platform much more effective than handing
out medical literature. The best thing about this application is that it runs in the
background and requires no interaction from the staff or physicians. We find patients
watch the videos repeatedly to understand their condition.”
- Athenahealth Marketplace review

“First of all, I think this is a great idea. With the limited time that we (as providers) have
with our patients in our current healthcare system, something like this would be valuable
to both patients and providers.” - Faria Khan, MD, MBA

“I believe the animations are much easier for patients to understand than still images
printed on fliers, or even the pre-constructed printouts from an EMR we are required to
give out as part of meaningful use criteria.”
- Jeff Taylor, MD

“Most simply, Nucleus Medical Media animation is the best in the business. How do I
know? I've looked at every conceivable site, about a dozen times. NMM is without
parallel or peer. Period.”
- George McClane, MD

“Animations provide visual cues and better understanding in a succinct fashion. The
animation keeps the patients engaged while they are learning the information.”
- Dr. George Crawford, MD

"We have been using the Nucleus educational pieces exclusively for 20 years now. The
feedback from our patients has been extremely positive. Not only are they better
informed about their injuries and proposed surgery, but the number of post visit telephone
calls to clarify information has drastically decreased since the patients now have clear
and concise informational handouts to take home. Thanks for developing this great
product."
- Rick Hammesfahr, MD

“The animations are excellent. The picture they convey is spot on. I think they are better
than most I've seen.”
- Phil Beron, MD
