LOVE IN SPITE OF PAIN

Summary Recollection

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 King James Version

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not
puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh
no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be
tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

This passage was the first Bible Verse that came into my mind while I was listening to Fr. Dave
Concepcion. It summarizes how God views love. It sums up everything most important in life
and spirituality. It tells us how we must be toward our fellow human, and at the same time,
reveals God’s nature towards every person because God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in
God, and God in them.
LOVE IN SPITE OF PAIN. Five words, simple to read, yet hard to understand and express.
Why?
There is this article that I’ve read online that “hurt people, hurt people.” And it’s true-often, in
my own pain I lash out and hurt others. Partly because my pain is so huge and so real and so
blinding that I don’t always see what I’m doing to others. Indeed, misery loves company.
But because of the Love of God, I am guided, I am taught to love in spite of pain. I am saved.
Not because I did good, but because He is good.
The purest and highest of all God's gifts of the Spirit is the grace of divine love. All the other
gifts of the Spirit that Christians may exercise lack value and meaning if they aren't motivated by
love. The Bible teaches that faith, hope, and love come together in a triune and eternal formation
of heavenly gifts, "but the greatest of these is love." –
In the Book of Corinthians, it says that “Love Keeps No Record of Wrongs”; This kind of love
offers forgiveness, even when offenses are repeated many times. It is a love that doesn't keep
track of every wrong thing that people do and hold it against them; a Love in spite of pain.
It also says that “Love Always Perseveres”; This kind of love endures even through the most
difficult trials; a Love in spite of pain.
As Fr. Dave Concepcion says, “You can give without love, but you cannot love without giving;
You can suffer without love, but you cannot love without suffering; You can be hurt without
love, but you cannot love without hurting; You can be tired without love, but you cannot love
without being tired.”
Love is not an emotion, rather it is a decision. Love is to order ourselves for the good of other
people. When you have committed yourself to a type of love that isn’t self-serving or short-
sighted but rather persistent and focused on the well-being of others, you learn to act kindly
towards those you are called to love. You become more forgiving, gracious, and trusting.
