 INTRODUCTION TO
HEALTHCARE
INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE
UAE
The definition of health care infrastructure is one that
involves the individuals, facilities, and buildings
required to deliver world-class health care. This
complex term includes the components comprising
basic hospital delivery of services, including both
structural and maintenance of facilities.
The healthcare cities in the UAE are: - Sheikh Khalifa
Medical City. Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC),
Sharjah Healthcare City and Dubai Healthcare City.
These healthcare cities have the best clinics and
hospitals which are equipped with the latest medical

equipments and technologies. These cities were built to
provide better healthcare services and to ease access to
health facilities.

HEALTHCARE
WORKFORCE
The healthcare sectors include workers like:
o Doctors

o Nurses
o Allied healthcare professionals (laboratory
technicians, respiratory therapists, radiographers)
o Housekeeping, cleaning, waste disposal workers
o Other staff (porters, security, catering, administrative,
pharmacists)
The UAE has a variety of healthcare workers from
different countries with different experiences and
knowledge. This gives the residents of the country a
benefit, as now they would be able to access a variety of
procedures and treatments as there is a wider range of
expertise now. As a responsible country, the UAE
encourages and supports its healthcare workers with a
scheme called the ‘Hayyakum’ scheme which will
provide a free scholarship for the children of these
healthcare workers.

 MEDICAL
TREATMENTS
UAE has some of the best medical facilities in
the world. Being home to world-class
healthcare facilities, UAE is inarguably one of
the biggest hubs for medical tourism. There
are different procedures and treatments
available in the UAE which is embedded with
the latest machines, techniques, technologies,
doctors, and nurses.
Some of the best

 Cancer Treatments
Tourists come to UAE for such procedures
from Europe, Asia and Africa as UAE has
highly skilled medical professionals, newest
technologies, no language barrier and due to
ease of travel.
PHARMACEUTICAL
INDUSTRY
In 2022, UAE was ranked first among all countries in
the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in
attracting multinational companies (MNCs) in the
field of the pharmaceutical industry, with a total
number of 92 marketing offices, employing more
than 3,000 employees, along with a foreign direct
investment value of around $817 million.
Pharmaceutical manufacturing is an extremely
attractive industry and of high value to the UAE
economy for a number of reasons. Its primary value
is self-reliance, which is critical in helping reduce
national dependence on the import of thousands of
medical products from overseas.

CONCLUSION
The healthcare infrastructure of the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) is well-developed
and highly regarded on both regional and
international levels. The UAE has made
significant investments in healthcare,
resulting in the establishment of state-of-
the-art medical facilities, advanced
technologies, and a highly skilled
healthcare workforce.
In conclusion, UAE is well-positioned to
meet the evolving healthcare needs of its

population and contribute to advancements
in the global healthcare landscape.
