PINK DOLPHIN

The pink dolphin is one of the emblematic species of the Amazon. It is the largest
freshwater river dolphin. In the rainy season it moves to the flooded areas of the
jungle, where there is a greater supply of food. Currently the number of this population
is decreasing considerably placing it in the category of endangered species. there are
many reasons why our pink friend could become extinct in the next few years.

*They can measure up to 2.50 m long and weigh around 200 kg

*Due to the type of water and temperature conditions, its

skin turns pink due to its own wear.

* Their diet is based on 43 different species of fish, including catfish, piranhas, crabs
and small turtles.
* They can travel up to 30 km a day, they can move their heads up to 180 degrees this
allows them to hunt in shallow water.

*Not everything is wonderful for these animals, they are currently threatened by
human activities, the Universal Union for Conservation of Nature classifies the pink
Amazon River dolphin as a vulnerable species, which is why they demand more
attention not only from communities with those that share ecosystems, but from
governments and the private sector
CAUSES
*The greatest threat facing this species is the contamination of rivers by oil activities,
disposal of fuel oils and fishing with dynamite

*These animals are characterized by being

curious, which has caused fishermen to accidentally catch them in their gillnets, on the other
hand, they are hunted to use their meat as bait to catch catfish.

* Increase in pollution in the river is remarkable and destructive. Fishing and the felling of trees
as well as boat traffic on the river affect these animals since they are curious and when they
get closer, they are damaged by the propellers.

As a result, the deaths of these animals have increased.
