Simulation Research is one of the research methodologies applied in the field of Architecture.

If a
line is drawn, simulation has the meaning of a process, original system, validation, and reality.

So, simulation research is a process of imitating a concrete "replica" with a smaller size to get
evidence and some ideas that can be developed from what already exists.

With the progress of the times, technology is developing rapidly to support this research method.
With digitization, computerization, and artificial systems, you can get scenarios and situations that
are the same as reality.

There are also procedures that can be carried out to carry out this research. The first can be done by
role playing social situations and creating 3d mock up, sketches, and scale models.

By carrying out these research procedures, concrete results can be obtained, such as potential design
flaws, innovations that can be developed, and better performance in terms of occupant comfort,
safety, and health.

One of the reasons Clipson introduced this research method is for cost savings, it helps identify
defects in a design before construction begins. In addition, to prevent design failure, because
understanding the user's wishes is not easy, a simulation study is carried out by observing people in
space and their behaviour.

This research method can be a powerful tool for investigating and analysing complex systems as well
as predictions. But you also have to be aware of the drawbacks because they may only realize a
fraction of the significance of the assumptions derived from conceptual simulations.

In this simulative research, there are several simulative models. The first is the iconic and operative
model. These models tend to focus on materials or products and human interaction with physical
context, the methods commonly used are 3d mockups, scale models, and full-scale models.

In contrast to simulative games and role-playing games, this technique is used to find out and
understand the function of the situation between the user and the environment. The latter is
computer-based visualization in 3D technology.

In this case, Colin Clipson (1993) has a theory of simulative models, there are 4 different types. The
iconic model conducts research and observations that focus on materials or products or can be called
prototypes or replicas. Usually, the results from this observation are tangible and researchers can do
trial and error with this prototype before implementing it in the real world.

Analog means dynamic simulation of physical and complex systems. His role is usually to explore
theory and also monitor complex systems. Operative models tend to examine human interactions in
physical contexts activities and interactions between occupants and the environment to be tested.

While the mathematical model system is encoded numerically, data and relationships with the real
world are also determined by numbers.

Models from this simulative method are used according to needs with conditions that suit each
model. Especially in the world of architecture, many of the world's great designers use and choose
the simulation method by using mockups as their tools. As did Gaudi (Sagrada Familia in Barcelona).
Although it sounds traditional, this method is still often used in the 21st century.
Indeed, with the existence of technology, computers can make this job easier and also with the
various capabilities that it can do. as well as virtual modeling and simulation research which are very
useful to each other. Even some software is capable of experimenting with malicious designs.
