Overview
This chapter describes how to operate the XHD6800+U1 and
XHD6800+U2 using card-edge controls or by using a CCS software
application such as +Pilot Lite, Pilot, or Navigator.
Note
Except where noted, XHD6800+ is used to refer to both the
XHD6800+U1 and XHD6800+U2 modules
See the following documents for detailed information on how to operate
this product remotely:
• +Pilot Lite User Manual for serial interface
• CCS Pilot, CoPilot, Navigator, or NUCLEUS Network Control
Panel, LCP-3901-1U/RCP-CCS-1U manuals for Ethernet interface
The following topics are discussed in this chapter:
• “Operating Notes” on page 24
• “Changing Parameter Settings” on page 25
• “Entering License Keys” on page 29
• “Configuring Video Input Settings” on page 31
• “Configuring Aspect Ratio Conversion” on page 38
• “Configuring Audio” on page 45
• “Changing Parameter Settings Using Card-Edge Controls” on
page 26
Operating Notes
When setting the control parameters on the XHD6800+, observe the
following:
• If you make changes to certain parameters, other related parameters
may also be affected.
• When you change a parameter, the effect is immediate. However,
the module requires up to 20 seconds to save the latest change.
After 20 seconds, the new settings are saved and will be restored if
the module loses power and must be restarted.
• For proper operation, the output HD standard frame rate should
match or double the reference standard frame rate.
• The manufacturer recommends that you terminate any unused
coaxial output connectors with a 75-Ω connector.
2. Once the hex switch is set to “0,” toggle the navigation switch up or
down to select a bank.
View the three control LEDs next to the navigation toggle switch to
see which bank is currently selected.
Note
The manufacturer recommends that you use the available 6800+
software control options (serial/local or Ethernet/remote) to aid in
viewing, setting, and confirming parameter values.
Note
Before you can purchase a license key, you must obtain your
module’s serial number. You can use the Serial Number parameter
to access your module’s serial number (see page 30).
Table 3-2 lists the available XHD6800+ feature upgrade licence keys
you can purchase.
You must use a CCS software application, such as CCS +Pilot Lite,
Pilot, and Navigator to enter license keys. If you are using card-edge
controls (with OSD turned On), you can only display the Licence Key
parameter.
Before you can enter and activate your feature upgrade license key, you
must either Refresh or Discover your XHD6800+ module as described
in “Refreshing Your Module Using +Pilot Lite” on page 25 and
“Discovering an XHD6800+ Module” on page 26.
Note
In the section below, the term “frame rate compatible” is used to
describe frame rates that are the same or exactly double.
Each Input Video Standard parameter option is described below:
• Auto With this option selected, the XHD6800+ automatically
detects the video standard of incoming video. Only HD standards
that are frame rate compatible with the detected input standard are
available as Output Video Standard parameter options. If an HD
video format is detected, the module is set to Bypass mode.
• 525 With this option selected, the XHD6800+ only accepts
525-based video inputs (29.97 fps standard) for upconversion. Only
frame rate compatible HD standards are available as Output Video
Standard parameter options. If a non 525-based standard is
detected at the input, the video output is handled according to the
Loss of Video Output parameter option.
• 625 With this option selected, the XHD6800+ only accepts
625-based video inputs (25 fps standards) for upconversion. Only
frame rate compatible HD standards are available as Output Video
Note
If you select a non frame rate compliant standard, the OSC will
disappear. If this occurs, use the Factory Recall parameter and
then regain use of the OSD. This will take several seconds.
Figure 3-1 provides an illustration of how video inputs and their
corresponding outputs are handled by the XHD6800+.

Bypass Mode
When an HD-SDI signal is input to theXHD6800+, the module detects
that no upconversion processing on the input is required. Therefore, the
module operates in Bypass mode, which means that the module’s input
signal bypasses the upconverter and is output to the program and
monitoring outputs unprocessed. If On-Screen Display (OSD)
monitoring is enabled, the OSD will be present in HD Prog/Mon Output
1 and HD Prog/Mon Output 2. For information about the OSD
monitoring feature, see “Enabling On-Screen Display” on page 28.
When the module is operating in Bypass mode, many parameters are
disabled. See Table 3-3 for a list of parameters that are disabled when
the module is operating in Bypass mode.
You can add additional delay using the Audio Pair 1 Delay to Audio
Pair 4 Delay parameters. For information about setting additional audio
delay, see “Setting Audio Pair Delay” on page 48.
The user delay is always applied in addition to the audio
synchronization and will cause an audio glitch to occur when the user
delay changes.

Overscan Mode
You can use Overscan mode to select and discard a specified number of
lines and columns of pixels around the borders of the input image
before upconversion. Enabling Overscan mode prevents embedded data
in the active picture region, such as closed captioning, from being
upconverted.
The active picture region for 525 standard starts on line 21 and ends at
line 262. Therefore, an overscan setting of 1 line implies that
upconversion starts at line 22 and ends at line 261. In addition to the
two discarded lines, the first and last pixel of each remaining line in the
active picture region are discarded.
Before setting Overscan mode, you can determine if closed captioning
is present in the input video by viewing the Input CC Present feedback
parameter. You can then select the lines of video you want Overscan
mode to discard.
To set up Overscan mode, make the following selections:
To adjust the horizontal and vertical phasing of your output video, make
the following selections:
Configuring Audio
The XHD6800+ can detect up to four embedded audio groups (eight
uncompressed or compressed audio channel pairs) that are present in
the input SDI video stream. You can then select up four input audio
channel pairs and embed them as two audio groups in the SDI output
video stream. Using the XHD6800+ audio control parameters you can
perform the following audio input and output operations:
• Select detected input audio groups/pairs to demux
• Select audio groups/pairs to re-embed in the SDI output
• Set audio delay on each output audio channel pair (uncompressed
sources only)
• Set audio gain on each output audio channel pair (uncompressed

30-pin
connector
This connector should not have any bent or pressed pins. Even
a slightly depressed or bent pin may cause genlock issues.
d. If there are bent pins, carefully re-position them to their correct
positions.
If this is not possible, a back module can be obtained from the
manufacturer.
