SOFTWARE FOR DATA ANALYSIS

SPSS:
SPSS is short for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, and it’s used by various kinds of
researchers for complex statistical data analysis. The SPSS software package was created for the
management and statistical analysis of social science data.
SPSS is used by market researchers, health researchers, survey companies, government entities,
education researchers, marketing organizations, data miners, and many more for processing and
analyzing survey data.

SPSS offers four programs that assist researchers with their complex data analysis needs.

Statistics Program
SPSS’s Statistics program provides a plethora of basic statistical functions, some of which
include frequencies, cross-tabulation, and bivariate statistics.
Modeller Program
SPSS’s Modeler program enables researchers to build and validate predictive models using
advanced statistical procedures.
Text Analytics for Surveys Program
SPSS’s Text Analytics for Surveys program helps survey administrators uncover powerful
insights from responses to open-ended survey questions.
Visualization Designer
SPSS’s Visualization Designer program allows researchers to use their data to create a wide
variety of visuals like density charts and radial boxplots from their survey data with ease.

AMOS:
AMOS is statistical software and it stands for analysis of a moment structures. AMOS is an
added SPSS module, and is specially used for Structural Equation Modeling, path analysis, and
confirmatory factor analysis. It is also known as analysis of covariance or causal modeling
software. AMOS is a visual program for structural equation modeling (SEM). In AMOS, we can
draw models graphically using simple drawing tools. AMOS quickly performs the computations
for SEM and displays the results.
In the calculation of SEM coefficients, AMOS uses the following methods:
 Maximum likelihood
 Unweighted least squares
 Generalized least squares
 Browne’s asymptotically distribution-free criterion
 Scale-free least squares

STATA:
Stata is a statistical software package and programming environment created which has extensive
integrated routine abilities for Data Management and Analysis. It is used by researchers in varied
fields and disciplines like Applied Economics and Econometrics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics,
Political Science, Sociology etc.
Its statistical abilities include Linear Models, Panel Data Models, Multilevel Mixed Effect
Models, ANOVA/MANOVA, Limited Dependent Variable Models, GMM and nonlinear
regression models, programmable MLE, Resampling, Simulation, Time Series, Survival

PLS SMART:
PLS Smart is a software with a graphical user interface for variance-based structural equation
modelling using the partial least squares path modeling method. n SEM, a model is tested for
quality of the measures (Measurement Model) and next for the interrelationship between the
variables (Structural Model). The session discusses in detail the Measurement and Structural
model.
SMART PLS is a software with a graphical user interface for variance-based structural equation
modeling (SEM) using the partial least squares (PLS) path modeling method. Besides estimating
path models with latent variables using the PLS-SEM algorithm, the software computes standard
results assessment criteria (e.g., for the reflective and formative measurement models, the
structural model, and the goodness of fit) and it supports additional statistical analyses (e.g.,
confirmatory tetrad analysis, importance-performance map analysis, segmentation, multigroup).
PLS-SEM also has the ability to perform graphical analysis of paths to show the direct effects of
antecedent variables and indirect effects of the effects of intermediate variables. The PLS-SEM
assessment shows the measurement of the measurement model and the structural model with
regard to parameter stability.

NVIVO:
NVivo is a software program used for qualitative and mixed-methods research. Specifically, it is
used for the analysis of unstructured text, audio, video, and image data, including (but not
limited to) interviews, focus groups, surveys, social media, and journal articles.

 Analyze and organize unstructured text, audio, video, or image data.
 Playback ability for audio and video files, so that interviews can be transcribed in NVivo.
 Ability to capture social media data from Facebook and Twitter using the NCapture
browser plug-in.
 Import notes and captures from Evernote - great for field research.

data in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.

M-PLUS:
Mplus is a statistical modeling program that provides researchers with a flexible tool to analyze
their data. Mplus offers researchers a wide choice of models, estimators, and algorithms in a
program that has an easy-to-use interface and graphical displays of data and analysis results.
Mplus allows the analysis of both cross-sectional and longitudinal data, single-level and
multilevel data, data that come from different populations with either observed or unobserved
heterogeneity, and data that contain missing values. Analyses can be carried out for observed
variables that are continuous, censored, binary, ordered categorical (ordinal), unordered
categorical (nominal), counts, or combinations of these variable types. In addition, Mplus has
extensive capabilities for Monte Carlo simulation studies, where data can be generated and
analyzed according to any of the models included in the program.
The purpose of modeling data is to describe the structure of data in a simple way so that it is
understandable and interpretable. Essentially, the modeling of data amounts to specifying a set of
relationships between variables.

analyze and design systems and products that transform our world. The heart of MATLAB is the
MATLAB language, a matrix-based language allowing the most natural expression of
computational mathematics.
The mathematical basis for the first version of MATLAB was a series of research papers by J.
H. Wilkinson and 18 of his colleagues, published between 1965 and 1970 and later collected in
Handbook for Automatic Computation, Volume II, Linear Algebra, edited by Wilkinson and C.
Reinsch.
Advantage of MATLAB. The program can be used as a scratchpad to evaluate expressions typed
at the command line, or it can be used to execute large prewritten programs. Applications may be
written and changed with the built-in integrated development environment and debugged with
the MATLAB debugger.

connect shapes, text, and pictures to show relationships in your data.

Lisrel:

LISREL (linear structural relations) is a proprietary statistical software package used in structural
equation modeling (SEM) for manifest and latent variables. It requires a "fairly high level of
statistical sophistication".
The LISREL model and computer program was developed in the 1970s by Karl G. Jöreskog and
Dag Sörbom, who were both professors at Uppsala University, Sweden.
LISREL for Windows is helpful in importing the external data in various formats like SPSS,
SAS , MS Excel, etc. as a PRELIS system file (PSF). The software uses a graphics file with the
default extension called PTH in order to capture the path diagram. It is also useful in fitting the
measured model to the data.

research, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research. Use Mendeley to:
Automatically generate bibliographies. Collaborate easily with other researchers online.

Wavelet Analysis:

Wavelet analysis is becoming a common tool for analyzing localized variations of power within
a time series. By decomposing a time series into time–fre- quency space, one is able to determine
both the domi- nant modes of variability and how those modes vary in time.
The moments do not have to be zero, and a small value is good enough for most applications.
Where Wavelet came from ? “Wavelets” were first in 1909, in a thesis by Alfred Haar. The
present theoretical form was first proposed by Jean Morlet (et al.)
The wavelet transform (WT) can be used to analyze signals in time–frequency space and reduce
noise, while retaining the important components in the original signals. In the past 20 years, WT
has become a very effective tool in signal processing.
