The story is set in the Sengoku period. Ambitious to rule the

country, samurai warriors are releasing ninja called "suppa" in
great numbers full of small, trifling plots. The suppa who works
for the Matsudaira clan is Hattori Hanzo Yasunaga of Iga. He
orders his son, Hattori Hanzo Masanari, to serve Matsudaira
Jiro Saburo Motonobu (later known as leyasu).

Motonobu, his master, is sixteen, while Masanari is fifteen.

Together, they begin their long and challenging journey.
