ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Pupils asked to read the caption accompanying the picture on SB page
36. They asked to work in pairs to discuss the picture and their
reaction to it. Pupils encouraged to talk about what they know about
the Great White Shark. Pupils discussed the picture as a class.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils explained that in this lesson they will be improving
their technique in blank-filling listening tasks. Pupils asked to
read the instructions and make sure they understand what
they have to do. Pupils asked to tick the sentences that
contain missing words that aren’t numbers. Pupils elicited
that they would work out the words which aren’t numbers
refer to and that they aren’t expected to guess the actual
words.
2. Pupils discuss which colour may be missing in 3. Pupils asked
what the five senses are and which one they think is most
important to a shark and to say why.
3. Pupils explained that they are now going to listen to a talk
about the Great White Shark.
4. Pupils encourage to think of other ways the information in

PRE-LESSON
LESSON DELIVERY Technology based activity: for this you will need a computer room
or pupils will need their own devices.
1. Ask pupils to work in groups of 4 and discuss a story. Tell them
to summarise the key events.
2. Now tell them to think about the key themes or topics of the
story.
3. Tell them to work together and find 3 pictures that they think
show the themes.
4. Once they have chosen their pictures get them to create a slide
show. Tell them to put a picture on each slide and add notes
explaining why their picture shows the themes or information
about the characters. You can give an example of your own to
model the task.
5. If there is time, once they have finished, ask the pupils to present
their slides.

PRE-LESSON Pupils asked to look at the picture in the top right-hand corner of
page 37. They asked what subject they think part of the lesson will
deal with. Pupils asked to write down as many environmental
problems and their consequences as possible. Then they asked to
take it in turns to read out one of their problems to the class.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity A(page 37)
1. Pupils asked to read the three questions and answer the
queried they may have about them. Pupils asked to work in
pairs and to take turns to answer the questions.
2. Each pair asked to answer one of the questions and repeat
until every pair has had a turn.
Activity B(page 37)
1. Pupils asked to read the Exam Close-up box about listening
to instructions.
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions and make sure they
understand what they are doing. The recording played once
all the way through and pupils asked to write their answers.
Then pupils asked to discuss their answers with a partner
and to justify any answers that are different.

word or expression that they have learned in relation to the topic.

board and which tenses have been used. Pupils revise the
affirmative, negative, question forms, and short answers of the two
tenses with pupils.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils asked to look at the verbs in bold in sentences 1-4
and elicit that they are in the Present Perfect Simple.
2. Pupils elicited how we form the Present Simple in the
affirmative. Then pupils elicited how the negative of the
Present Perfect Simple is formed using sentence 3 in the
task.
3. Pupils asked to read the instructions and that they
understand what they have to do. Pupils asked to read the
uses of the Present Perfect Simple in a-d and answer any
questions they might have.
4. Pupils asked to look at the verbs in bold in the sentences in

PRE-LESSON Pupils played a game to review useful expressions for discussion.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity C(page 37)
1. Pupils asked to look at the pictures in D and spend a minute
deciding what would be involved in each one. Pupils
checked understand what recycling bins, aluminium, beach
clean-up, pollution, campaign, cycling, planting trees and
setting up a website mean.
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions again before starting
so that they know exactly what they should do. Pupils
explained that they are to match the verbs 1-5 with the
words/phrase a-e, by looking at the pictures.

Activity D(page 37)
1. Pupils explained that task C gave them some helpful
vocabulary to use when talking about the pictures in the
Exam Task, for example, I think we should plant some trees.

1. Teach the word ‘excursion’. Give some examples of day
excursions, e.g. to a historical place or to the beach.
2. Tell pupils to imagine they have a business offering excursions.
Ask them to work in pairs and think of a name for their company
and create a company logo.
3. Tell them to think about an exciting day out.
4. Ask them to make notes about: the place / the activity / the
times to do things / the food or restaurants. When they have
finished they should set up their table with the company logo.
5. Explain to the pupils that they will now plan an excursion.
6. One of the pupils from each pair should sit at the table and
explain about the excursion they offer.
7. Tell the second pupil to go around the other tables and ask
questions about the excursions offered. They should give their
opinion about the different parts of the excursion. Once they have
talked to at least 5 other tables, they should choose the excursion
they like best and will go on.
7. Now ask them to swap roles – the pupil who has been walking
round sits at their table and their partner now goes around to the
other tables and repeats the process of choosing an excursion.
8. Once the task is completed ask pupils which excursions they
chose and why. Ask them to give opinions.

multiple choice questions. Give pupils the text and ask them to
read it quickly and answer the gist questions.
5. Ask them to compare their answers in pairs then check all the
answers with the whole class.
6. Now ask the pupils to read the sentences on the board. Tell them
to read the text again and correct each sentence.

their writing before they begin. They asked to skim through
the example email again and to write what the main idea of
each paragraph is next to it. Then they asked to read
descriptions a-d to decide which ones are closest to their
notes before doing the matching task
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions and check that they
understand what they have to do. Pupils asked to read the
Exam Close-up box and the Exam task. Pupils reminded to
underline any information in the Exam task that they need
to include in their email.
3. Pupils asked to complete the task and to remember to make
a plan for their email in class. Pupils asked to do the task
individually, but check as a class. Pupils explained that they
should use the Writing Reference and checklist for emails
or page 176 to help them.
