CHEMICAL REACTION
Science Activity Sheet: DO WE HAVE A CHEMISTRY?

Name: ______________________________ Score: ________

Course/Year/Section: ____________________________

I. Learning Competency

Using models and illustrations, explain how chemicals react

using the synthetic or combination reaction.

II. Background Information for Learners:

What is a chemical reaction?

A Chemical Reaction is a process that occurs when two or more
molecules interact to form a new product(s). Compounds that interact to
produce new compounds are called reactants whereas the newly formed
compounds are called products. (https://byjus.com)

Examples of Chemical Reaction in Everyday Life

Examples of chemical reactions in everyday life include photosynthesis,
rust, baking, digestion, combustion, chemical batteries, fermentation, and
washing with soap and water. Chemical reactions occur everywhere in the
world around you, not just in a chemistry lab.

IV. Activity Proper (An experiment)

Title of the Activity: DO WE HAVE A CHEMISTRY?

Chemical reactions are an integral part of technology, of culture, and

indeed of life itself. Burning fuels, smelting iron, making glass and pottery,
brewing beer, and making wine and cheese are among many examples of
activities incorporating chemical reactions that have been known and used for
thousands of years. Chemical reactions abound in the geology of Earth in the
atmosphere and ocean and in a vast array of complicated processes that occur
in all living systems.

There are four types of chemical reactions namely; A combination

reaction, also known as a synthesis reaction, is a reaction in which two or
more substances combine to form a single new substance. Combination
reactions can also be called synthesis reactions . A decomposition reaction
is a reaction in which a compound breaks down into two or more simpler
substances. A single-replacement reaction is a reaction in which one
element replaces a similar element in a compound. A double-replacement
reaction is a reaction in which the positive and negative ions of two ionic
compounds exchange places to form two new compounds.

But in this activity we will be focusing only to combination or synthesis

reaction .
