DHABI(UAE)

The UAE is a rapidly growing and urbanizing economy with the construction industry’s significantly
supporting sector to this humongous growth. Many of the famous buildings had used BIM and have
been on the rise before the mandate was passed by the government, which was in the year 2014. It
is mandatory for all the projects that are 40-stories and higher, or 300,000 sq. ft. and larger. BIM
adoption seems to be slow in UAE, but some of the significant projects have used BIM.

DIFFICULTIES IN ADOPTING BIM IN DUBAI

 To assess BIM specialists’ opinions on the subject, used three variables to describe the key
difficulties connected with BIM adoption in the UAE: “technical dimension,” “organizational
dimension,” and “attitude factor.” The findings of the study suggested that 45% of
participants identified the absence of standards and protocols as the primary reason for not
adopting BIM in the UAE with “resistance to change from current construction
methodology” and “lack of BIM awareness” as the second and third main reasons.
 Even though the BIM implementation is beginning in UAE, there is absence of BIM
contractual documents. There are several software companies that are addressing some part
of the BIM process. Nevertheless they do not treat the process as one whole. Hence, there is
a need to standardize the BIM process to define the BIM procedures for adoption within
UAE construction industry.

POTER’S FIVE FORCE MODEL:

Porter's Five Forces is a framework that analyses the competitive forces within an industry to
determine its attractiveness and potential profitability. Let's apply Porter's Five Forces theory to
establishing a new MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) firm with a sustainable focus in Dubai:

Threat of New Entrants: Dubai's construction industry is highly competitive, but entering as a new
MEP firm with a sustainable focus presents opportunities and challenges. The threat of new entrants
is relatively moderate. While there may be established MEP firms already operating in the market,
the demand for sustainable design and construction is growing. Differentiating your firm by
emphasizing sustainable expertise and certifications can help mitigate the threat of new entrants.

DHABI(UAE)

Bargaining Power of Buyers: The bargaining power of buyers in the construction industry in Dubai
can be significant. Clients, such as developers and project owners, have the ability to choose from
multiple MEP firms. However, by offering specialized sustainable services, your firm can create a
unique value proposition that appeals to environmentally conscious clients. Building strong
relationships with clients and demonstrating the benefits of sustainable MEP solutions can reduce
the bargaining power of buyers.

Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Suppliers in the MEP industry, such as equipment manufacturers
and distributors, may have a moderate bargaining power. To mitigate this, you can establish
strategic partnerships with suppliers that offer sustainable products and technologies. Building long-
term relationships with suppliers and ensuring a reliable supply chain can help maintain a
competitive advantage and reduce the bargaining power of suppliers.

Threat of Substitutes: The threat of substitutes for MEP services is relatively low. MEP services are
essential for building construction and infrastructure development. However, in terms of
sustainability, some clients may explore alternative energy sources or design strategies. To counter
this threat, positioning your firm as a leader in sustainable MEP design and emphasizing the long-
term benefits and cost savings of sustainable solutions can mitigate the threat of substitutes.

Competitive Rivalry: The competitive rivalry in Dubai's MEP market is high due to the presence of
established firms. However, by focusing on sustainability, you can differentiate your firm and carve
out a unique market position. Developing strong relationships with architects, developers, and
contractors, and showcasing your sustainable portfolio and expertise can help establish your firm as
a reputable player in the market.

Overall, establishing a new MEP firm with a sustainable focus in Dubai requires careful consideration
of Porter's Five Forces. By differentiating your firm through sustainable expertise, building strong
relationships with clients and suppliers, and effectively positioning your services in the market, you
can mitigate competitive threats and create a sustainable competitive advantage in the industry.

ANSOFF’S GROWTH MATRIX

The Ansoff Matrix is a strategic tool that helps businesses analyze and determine growth strategies
based on market penetration, market development, product development, and diversification.
Market Penetration: In this strategy, the focus is on increasing market share within the existing
market. For an MEP (BIM) and sustainability firm, key actions may include:

Targeting existing clients in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and offering them a comprehensive range of MEP
and sustainability services with a strong emphasis on BIM integration.

Strengthening relationships with existing clients by providing value-added services, such as energy
efficiency analysis, lifecycle assessment, and sustainability consulting.
BUISSNES DEVELOPMENT CASE STUDY OF TRANSVEN ON DUBAI AND ABU

Differentiating the firm by showcasing successful BIM and sustainability projects, highlighting the
benefits and cost savings achieved through these practices.

Expanding the firm's network within the local construction industry by actively participating in
industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.

Market Development: Market development involves expanding into new markets or geographic
regions. For an MEP (BIM) and sustainability firm, the following actions can be considered:

Identifying potential growth opportunities in neighbouring regions or cities beyond Dubai and Abu
Dhabi, such as Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, or Al Ain.

Conducting market research to understand the demand for MEP (BIM) and sustainability services in
these new markets.

Adapting the firm's services to meet the specific needs and regulations of the target markets.

Establishing partnerships or collaborations with local firms or industry influencers in the new
markets to gain market access and local expertise.

Product Development: Product development focuses on introducing new or enhanced services to

the existing market. For an MEP (BIM) and sustainability firm, the following actions can be
considered:

Expanding the range of BIM services offered, such as 4D/5D modelling, clash detection, virtual reality
simulations, and facility management integration.

Investing in research and development to develop proprietary tools, software plugins, or innovative
workflows that enhance the firm's BIM capabilities.

Offering specialized sustainability consulting services, including green building certifications, energy
modelling, renewable energy integration, and sustainability strategy development.

Collaborating with technology providers to leverage emerging technologies and enhance the firm's
service offerings.

Diversification: Diversification involves entering new markets with new services or products. For an
MEP (BIM) and sustainability firm, potential diversification strategies may include:

Exploring opportunities in related sectors such as renewable energy development, smart city
projects, or infrastructure planning and design.

Offering specialized consulting services for sustainable infrastructure, urban planning, or climate
change adaptation.

Venturing into education and training services, providing BIM and sustainability workshops,
certifications, and professional development courses.

Collaborating with research institutions or academia to participate in research projects related to

BIM and sustainability.
