The teacher will show students image of superheroes and an animal. They will
provide what is common between them.
Activity 2
Sherlock Holmes!
Consider the situation below.
Supposed you were having your on-job training in a private investigating
company.
You were asked to join a team assigned to investigate a “hit and run” case. The
alleged
suspect was captured by the CCTV camera driving down a road leading to the place

incident. The suspect denied the allegation, saying he was then driving very slowly
with
a constant speed. Because of the short time difference, he was caught by the camera
and when the accident happened, he insisted that it was impossible that he would
already be at the place when the crime happened. But when you were viewing the
scene again on the camera, you noticed that his car was leaving oil spots on the road.
When you checked these spots on the site, you found out that they are still evident.
So, you began to investigate the motion of the car of the suspect and check whether
he was telling the truth or not.

From the figure, draw bar between each dot.
a. How do the lengths from the bar compare?
b. If each bar represents the distance travelled by the car each second, then
what ‘quantity’ each bar represents?
c. What does the bars tells you about the speed of the car?
d. Is the suspect guilty or not guilty?

Sample Problem
A male bungee jumper falls freely for 1.5 seconds.
a. What is the velocity of the jumper at the end of 1.5 seconds?
b. How far does he falls.
Given: Required:
vi = 0 m/s (jumper starts from rest) a. vf
t = 1.5 s b. d
a = g = 9.8 m/s2
Equation:
a. vf = vi + at b. d=
Solution:
a. vf = 0 m/s + (-9.8 m/s2)(1.5 s) b. d=
vf = 0 m/s + (-14.7 m/s) d=
vf = -14.7 m/s d = -11 m
Answer:
a. -15 m/s
b. -11 m
Although we speak of falling objects, objects in upward motion experience the
same free fall acceleration. The velocity decreases as the object rises until its velocity
momentarily becomes zero as it reaches the maximum height and the falls back
toward the earth with increasing velocity.
The up and down travel of an object is symmetrical in space and time round the
