My share is to present the Equity pedagogy in Philippine education

Equity pedagogy is an approach to teaching and learning that takes into

consideration the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students and
seeks to create a learning environment that is inclusive, respectful, and
empowering for all learners.
According to (Banks & Banks, 1995). An equity pedagogy exists when teachers
modify their teaching in ways that will facilitate the academic achievement of
students from diverse racial, cultural, and social-class groups.
In the Philippines, equity pedagogy is an important component of multicultural
education. It involves using teaching strategies and practices that consider the
diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles of students in the
classroom. The goal of equity pedagogy is to create a learning environment that
is inclusive, respectful, and responsive to the needs of all students.
Hence, The Department of Education (DepEd) has incorporated equity pedagogy
into its K-12 curriculum through the implementation deped policies that stipulated
in Deped Order No. 42 s. 2017 (National Adoption and Implementation of the
Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers). Under domain 3 Diversity of
learner
Deped aims that every students from different racial and ethnic groups must feel
that they have equal status in intergroup interactions, teachers and
administrators must value and support cross-racial interactions, and students
from different racial groups must work together in teams to pursue common
goals.

Providing an equitable teaching method requires recognizing and valuing

the diversity of students in the classroom, as well as applying teaching
strategies and practices that address and eliminate educational
inequalities. These are some ideas for implementing equity pedagogy:

Inclusive curriculum: Teachers can incorporate different cultural

perspectives and experiences in the curriculum to ensure that students see
themselves represented in the materials they are learning. For instance, a
history lesson about the Philippines can include the contributions of
different ethnic groups to the country's development.
Multicultural materials: Teachers can use a variety of teaching materials,
such as books, videos, and music, that reflect different cultural
backgrounds. This can help students appreciate and learn from different
cultures.

Cooperative learning: Teachers can use cooperative learning activities that

allow students to work in groups and learn from each other. This strategy
promotes collaboration and communication among students from different
backgrounds.

Culturally responsive teaching: Teachers can use teaching strategies that

are culturally responsive to the needs and experiences of their students.
For instance, teachers can use different modes of instruction, such as
storytelling or role-playing, to engage students from different cultural
backgrounds.

Bilingual instruction: Teachers can use bilingual instruction to help students

who speak different languages. This strategy helps students understand
the content better and promotes language development.

By implementing these strategies, teachers can create a classroom

environment that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion, and supports
the learning and success of all students.
