Background of the Proposed Study
The proposed study aims to investigate the perceptions of urban residents in Barangay San Jose,
Puerto Princesa City, Philippines, regarding the implementation of green infrastructure for
stormwater management. According to the report of Philippine News Agency, Barangay San Jose
are one of the flood-prone areas here in Puerto Princesa City. Urbanization and climate change
have led to an increase in stormwater runoff, which can cause flooding, erosion, and water
pollution. Green infrastructure, which refers to the use of natural systems and processes to
manage stormwater, has been gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional gray infrastructure
such as pipes and detention ponds.

The implementation of green infrastructure can have several benefits, such as improving water
quality, reducing flooding, enhancing biodiversity, and providing aesthetic and recreational value.
However, the success of green infrastructure depends on community acceptance and support, as
well as effective communication and engagement strategies.

Barangay San Jose is a rapidly urbanizing area in Puerto Princesa City that has experienced
flooding and water pollution due to inadequate stormwater management. This study seeks to
understand how urban residents perceive the implementation of green infrastructure and how their
attitudes and behaviors may influence its adoption and success. The findings can inform policy and
planning decisions related to stormwater management in the area and contribute to the broader
discourse on sustainable urban development.
Objectives
The objective of the study is to investigate the perceptions of urban residents in Barangay San
Jose, Puerto Princesa City, regarding the implementation of green infrastructure for stormwater

management. The study aims to explore how urban residents perceive the use of green
infrastructure for managing stormwater, including their attitudes, beliefs, and opinions. The study
may also seek to identify any factors that influence these perceptions, such as socio-economic
status, education level, and prior experience with green infrastructure or stormwater management.
Overall, the study seeks to provide insights into the public acceptance and potential challenges to
implementing green infrastructure as a sustainable approach to stormwater management in urban
areas.
